In all honesty, I think it's time to remove STL from the thread title.

I don't. The 2009 Cardinals aren't a good team, the Cubs are just that shittastic.

Do I at least get a marginal pass for not being regional to the Cardinals/Cubs?

No you don't.  There's a lot of guys who aren't regional to the Cubs who understand that the Cardinals are evil.  You don't root for the Cardinals under any circumstances.

Holy shit.  You didn't root for them in '06, did you?

What happened in '06?

Their third-order pythagorean record puts them at about 62-59, good for 11th in the Majors, and 6th in the NL.

In this division/league, "good" is a relative term.

But that's based on stats pre-trades, without Charisma Carpenter for a few weeks, and Todd Wellemeyer in the starting rotation.

As the Cardinals are built right now, they're the second best team in the NL, and they have the only offense that can compete with Philly's.
Those Cardinals aren't red, they're yellow.  Like the Spanish!

That is true.  I guess my point is that that they're not not good-- I think that they're better than bad but really pretty ordinary.  We'll just have to see how it plays out.

Dusty claims another one.

And it was, indeed, Tommy John surgery.

Johnny Cueto is next.

Reds place Cueto on DL

QuoteThe Reds made multiple moves on Thursday, placing right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto on the 15-day disabled list

I'm sure you'll all be shocked to know that Cueto had ridiculously high pitch counts in just about all of his starts.

Yeah, but did Dusty ever pitch him in 4 innings of relief between starts?

No but he did have a string of 11 straight starts where he threw 98 or more pitches and only went beyond seven innings once.

Power pitchers can handle a heavier work load, dude.  Just like Nolan Ryan.

So Cincinnati goes into 2008 with a minor league star whose OBP regularly hovers around .400 and (shortly after the Hamiton trade) two great young arms who have huge futures in baseball.

Now that minor leaguer is Adam Dunn without the OBP and the two arms are hurt.

The bay of Pigs invasion would have worked perfectly if Dusty would have been in charge.  Dude knows how to destroy from within.
