Title: The Official 72 Wins Ain't Gonna Hai in Miami 2010-2011 NBA Thread
Post by: PenPho on October 07, 2010, 06:06:59 PM
Figured it was time to get this started so that it can get abandoned in 3 weeks for the "Bulls are insignificant" thread.

But mostly because we need to know who JD's favorite team is this year and I was wondering if there was NBA fantasy this year that didn't involve ESPN.com (why aren't we on Yahoo again??).

Also, because fuck Miami.

I'm in.

And, yeah, my team is the Okie City Thunder this year.  Kevin Durant has wounded my broken heart over them passing over Rubio and STEPH CURRY for never-will-be James Harden.

I suck at fantasy sports and I suck harder at the NBA. But I'll join. After all, I went to the same school as Isiah Thomas, so I should know something about running a basketball team.

Yep.  28 points on 31 shots is abysmal.  I love Derrick, but until he learns how to get to the free throw line (or actually improves at three-pointers), he's not going to break through and get to that tier-one-elite-level-star category that I just made up right now.

I think it changes when Boozer comes back, whenever that is. But I also don't think Rose is going to shoot THAT bad every game. Deng really needs to hit his jumpers.

This guy is pretty much dead on though. Pretty scary.

I didn't get to watch the game because I was at the UC but Bogans getting 36 minutes frightens me.

Ok. I'm somewhat sort of interested in the NBA this season. I don't have a team to root for but I'm starting to appreciate the play on the court more than before. I refuse to watch an actual game start to finish. But I'm out of my doldrums and ready to re-up. I'll let you know when I find a team to support and get all asshurt about. Right now I'm leaning toward Miami because I'm a HUGE Pat Riley fan and also fuck you.

Just watch random games. There's a ton of talent out there. Did you see Monta Ellis last night? Holy shit that guy can score.

If you're allowing yourself to just pick a team to root for, I'd go with the Thunder.  They're young, awesome and they play in one of the greatest cities in the world!

We'll swee what happens. Houston and San Antonio have Purdue and IUPUI guys who don't suck getting minutes, so those are possibilities.

If you're starting from scratch, you pretty much have to go Thunder.

If there was a Thunder of baseball, I would already have left.

I don't. I don't want another baseball team. If I was able to quit the Cubs I would just stop watching baseball altogether. Neither are going to happen.

Let's get back to basketball.

My bad. I was more referring to the basketball portion. Fuck baseball. The Thunder would be a fun, intriguing team to latch on to.

You guys can't just make up teams and root for them. Heh, Thunder. Nice. Ok, my new favorite team is the Kentuck Blue Grass or maybe the Toronto Teeth. No, scratch that. I'm going all in for the Saskatchewan Small Pox Infected Blankets.

Now of the teams that currently exist, I'm still leaning toward Miami. LeBron, like my former hero, Patrick Ewing, is on a mission from gord. Only, he probably won't fail. So, I owe myself a little bandwagon jumping to make up for my Quioxtic and ill-spent youth. Yay?

You jumping on the Heat bandwagon would be an excellent addition to your already retarded pro basketball fandom.

Perfect. Although I expect that my involvement in said bandwagon will consist of about 10 games watched per season (eight of which will be playoff games). No gear or memorabilia would be purchased or worn and a strong feeling of meh would be permeating the entire experience. So, I've got that to look forward to. Go Heat.

I say fuck the Thunder.  Fuck them for being America's sweethearts all of a sudden even though they were the Sonics three years ago.  Fuck Thabo for being a french guy who used to have cornrows.  Fuck Nenad Kristic and his hard to look at face.  Fuck Kevin Durant for playing up the 'humble down to earth' card.  Pick up a dumbell, Calista.  Fuck Oklahoma in general and their 2010 marketing campaign, "We're really only great because the Blazers fucked up*."  They're the basketball Tampa Bay Rays.  We get it, you were awful for forever and now you've had enough top five draft picks to get lucky a couple times and now the world loves you because you're small and gritty and not the Yankees or Lakers or Heat.  Go to hell.

The Bulls had a lot of top draft picks for a while too.

All of those guys now play reasonably poorly for other teams.

Yep.  28 points on 31 shots is abysmal.  I love Derrick, but until he learns how to get to the free throw line (or actually improves at three-pointers), he's not going to break through and get to that tier-one-elite-level-star category that I just made up right now.

Rose, after reading this post on here the other day, goes for 39 points while hitting 10-of-13 free throws and 3-of-7 three-pointers.

That'll do.

The Heat are on pace for 46 wins, Apex's beloved Knicks are on pace for 31, Noah is leading the league in rebounding, Rose is averaging 24 and 10, Deng is hitting 43% of his threes, and Boozer will be ready to go in a few weeks. All is well.

The way Huffington Post rips off everyone else's content is kind of the point.  Or do you lack the brain activity to perform that realization?

Links are black on my Desipio, by the way.

Yes...they rip off other content by linking to it and acknowledging it.

Are you just impersonating PenFoe or did he steal your login info?

Also, if that was really your point, you need to work on articulating your points better.

I got lost in one of HuffPo's pageviewbait photo galleries and forgot what we were talking about.

But since you want me to articulate the point better, HuffingPo excerpts so liberally that's there's no point in clicking through.  They benefit from others' content in a way that dwarfs any bump in traffic the original producer receives.  Contrast that to a site like Drudge that links to the content with a headline or short blurb.  You have to click to get anything more than that, and most people will.  HuffingPo also used to be a lot worse about linking.

Better?  Still too subtle?

That's five straight for my Miami Heat. This is getting interesting. I might stop turning the channel during the SC NBA highlights pretty soon if this keeps up.

That Felton shot was insane. They also got 41 dropped on them by Bargnani. Insane.

Still, anyone in Chicago that isn't at least watching Derrick Rose play is clinically insane.

The Big Three are back and they're knocking off quality teams on the road. Lebron scored 51 in a win over Orlando last night and El Heat has pulled within 2.5 games of the top spot in the East, female doges.

He think he tried to show me a cock pic last night. All of a sudden on the book of faces, I got a message from a certain Peck that said "WHAT'S UP BOI!!!!!" and before I had a chance to respond he was gone. So, in all fairness he was probably drunk and couldn't get it up.

Jim O'Brien was fired the day after this loss (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2011011411) to the Bulls, which makes two coaches the Bulls have taken down this year.  WHO'S NEXT?!?!

He moved on to the sheer unacceptableness of committing 12 turnovers in game because they're not good enough to overcome mistakes like that, even though no team in the league averages less than 12.4.

Not sure if you know how averages work, but if the bulls only had 4 turnovers a game, that 12.4 number would be reduced. And the bulls would be doing what they need to do to be competitive. Good teams do that.

It means he wants Fro to light himself on fire and never go on the internet again. It's pretty straightforward.

To be truthfully frank, this makes me like the Knicks even less. I liked Felton and Gallinari and I've never been able to stand Carmelo. You guys and fans everywhere got unduly asshurt about Lebron not signing with the Bulls making an unsightly spectacle out of his free agent signing. But at least he was a free agent. Melo held his team hostage for - shit it seems like we've been hearing Melo to NY rumors for a year now. That's pretty ugly to me. I like Chauncy Billups though, so there's that. And Renoldo Balkman, well I always thought Riley should have given him some burn Game 7 of the 94 Finals, if only to take some of the pressure off of Starks or change his rythm, fuck, anything. Good on the Knicks for attempting to right that wrong.

Meh.

I think the Knicks wanted star power and now they've got it. But they gave away some really nice pieces in this trade. I don't even mean pieces as in pieces of shit. I'd be interested to hear the view on this deal from the one intelligent Knick fan out there, should there be such a thing.

And Renoldo Balkman, well I always thought Riley should have given him some burn Game 7 of the 94 Finals, if only to take some of the pressure off of Starks or change his rythm, fuck, anything. Good on the Knicks for attempting to right that wrong. Meh.

Was this supposed to be a joke based off of a similar named guy?  If so, it wasn't very funny, but if not, then you're just not smart.  I'll go with either.

The Eastern Conference playoffs are going to be ridiculously entertaining.

To be truthfully frank, this makes me like the Knicks even less. I liked Felton and Gallinari and I've never been able to stand Carmelo. Actually it was funny. Because I laughed.

Meh.

I think the Knicks wanted star power and now they've got it. But they gave away some really nice pieces in this trade. I don't even mean pieces as in pieces of shit. I'd be interested to hear the view on this deal from the one intelligent Knick fan out there, should there be such a thing.

Did they really?

I mean, prior to those guys playing with D'Antoni (who has made a career of making mediocre guys look valuable), they pretty much were all worthless.
Felton couldn't even get a contract from the Bobcats, Chandler was just a scorer (and not a particularly good one), Mofogovovzev wasn't even drafted and Gallinari was just some hairy, soft Italian dude.

I agree with Pex's point of "because fuck Steve Tracshel Carmelo" for holding the Nuggets hostage, but this doesn't seem like a great return considering the 1st round draft pick isn't until 2014 at which point the Knicks should be sending them a non-lottery pick.

Well, unless Amare's knees are completely shot by then, of which there is like a 75% chance.

Sure, you may not see "soft, hairy Italian" on Gallinari's official scouting report but I'm sure that's probably all he is. When the Knicks look back at Raymond Felton as their point guard they'll wonder why they let some guy who couldn't even get a deal with Charlotte run their offense. Also they got that Wilson Chandler guy. Remember when the Bulls drafted him? Turns out he got a lot shorter and changed his first name. Weird.

I'm sure Denver is pissed they gave away a player who had led them to 300 straight first round exits and didn't want to be there while only getting in return four guys that you've never heard of, a massive trade exception and three picks.

Second, this isn't quite a LeBron James deal, but it was basically dictated by Anthony, who sent out the message loud and clear that he wanted a contract extension, something the Nuggets apparently weren't willing to give. It was just a matter of finding a team that was willing, and the curious dance back and forth with the Nets and Knicks had to be distracting to Denver. How can you focus on winning when your best player doesn't really want to be there?

Wait, what?

"And the NBA... oh, man, that's just turned into a bloated realm of nonsense. As I understand it, now we have to get people's attention in the slam dunk contest by driving a car onto the court and getting someone to jump over the car while being fed a ball through the sunroof, and then slam it? What if he misses? What if he trips over the car and tears up knee ligaments? What's next? Holding this thing outdoors and dropping a basketball out of a helicopter so it can be slammed? (Seriously, NBA: pretend you never heard that idea.)"

This paragraph is awesome.  I hope the NBA heard Al's suggestion.

The Eastern Conference playoffs are going to be ridiculously entertaining.

To be truthfully frank, this makes me like the Knicks even less. I liked Felton and Gallinari and I've never been able to stand Carmelo.

Cutler is ruined. Twitter is nothing but Rondo/Cutler comments. I'm getting Cutler/Rondo texts. Anytime anyone ever gets hurt, in any sport, all we are going to hear about is Cutler. I don't think winning a Super Bowl is enough to fix his image.

Hearing about Cutler's knee is going to end up being more annoying than hearing about Bartman.

EDIT: It's not a shotglass with Peyton Manning's name or picture on it. But just a random shotglass from some chode bar in Broad Ripple that he put his pickle smoochers all over one night. I got over.

Stern's been saying the new CBL won't have many changes prohibiting players from joining the same teams.

Knicks will have Amare - Carmelo - Chris Paul, LA will have Kobe - Gasol - Howard. Chicago will have Rose - Deng - Fuck all.
As long as we hit our free throws, we might be able to beat Miami 2 games in a 7 game series next year.
Go Bulls.

Why won't the Bulls get anymore great players? What's wrong with them? And how could anybody subjectively state that Player A cannot join Team A because Players B and C are already there? Isn't that why Karl Marx invented the salary cap?

What superstar should they add? Jamal Crawford or Kirk Hinrich? Let's discuss.

Pretty sure an .870 winning percentage for a regular season + playoffs will never be replicated for the duration of our lives.

More impressive is that the Bulls went 171-30 for a two year stretch (.851).  Huzzah!

I reacted WITH ANGER to most of the game last night. About halfway through the 4th, I decided it was better when I didn't give a shit about the NBA. So I turned the channel and missed the rest of that miserable clusterfuck.

I am happy for Brian Cardinal. I remem... Aw fuck it. I don't care and neither do you.

So that's it. LeBron will not learn from this experience or use the rest of his career to improve his post-up and perimeter games because he just isn't wired that way. He enjoys being bad at basketball and will continue to suck. That's fucking awesome.

I know I got skills man. I know I got skills, man.

Shaq actually had some not-awful songs in the early 90s thanks to his more-than-ample production budget. Hell, if you don't fuck with "No Hooks" featuring Wu-Tang's RZA and Meth, you are a worse hip-hop listener than TDubbs.

QuoteThat slogan is an obvious reference to a Shaquille O'Neal freestyle rap. O'Neal used the line, "Hey Kobe, tell me how my a** taste" to mock his former teammate with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant.

Really?

What I'm saying is that Stevenson's shirt was an obvious reference to Shaq's diss of Kobe which referenced the original Eddie Murphy gag.

Are we good?

An amendment to a long-running suit of Ross Perot (the previous and now a minority owner), against Mark Cuban for mismanaging the Mavericks.  For the lawyers in the crowd, maybe the best use of a defined term in recent history.

Reinsdorf does things the right way, by not paying a luxury tax. Keeps the league more competitive.
