Yes, it's 3-1 Reds through 6 but Cueto left the game after a few pitches. Looks like Dusty finally got to him.
Latos has done a nice job filling in but on three days rest.
Please make this hurt, baseball gods. And don't let Franchester and tHom experience any joy whatsoever.

This is how the wheels started to come off in Chicago, too, right? (http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/august/brandon-phillips-insults-reporter-for-pointing-out-his-on-base-percentage.html)
First, Dusty bats the 2b second no matter who he is. Then, when a reporter notes the Reds #2 hitter has a .310 OBP, the #2 hitter calls him a fat motherfucker right in front of Dusty, who grins and says "This is between you two, not me."
More player misbehavior to follow, and I won't be satisfied until some pissing match results in the resignation of Marty Brennaman.

Well, Dusty's #2 hitter has been (most of the time, anyway) Zach Cozart, with Heisey, Frazier, and Robinson the only others in the 10s or more. Brandon has 2 starts there. http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/split_stats_team.cgi?full=1¶ms=lineu%7CBatting%202nd%7CCIN%7C2013%7Cbat%7CAB%7C
I don't see a huge problem putting Phillips there. I mean, yea, you want someone with a good OBP there, but the Reds starters are as follows:
Votto .435
Choo .412
Bruce .325
Paul .324
Frazier .318
Phillips .311
Mesoraco .307
Cozart .280
It's not like the Reds are world beaters in that stat. You have 2 guys who are good at that, and the rest blow. Bruce is your 3rd for that, but I'd rather have the guy who has hit 26 HRs bat after the guy with a .435 OBP. On no team of mine would I have Xavier Paul bat before Brandon Phillips. So, it's Frazier or Phillips. Kind of a toss up there, but Frazier's been extra shitty since last year.

The Reds aren't winning that division.
To be fair though... and I know nobody wants to do that around here, Dusty seems to say that Heisey and Choo did this independently.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/cardinals/2013/09/05/st-louis-cardinals-cincinnati-reds-matt-adams-nl-central-wild-card/2769245/
QuoteCarlos Martinez (2-1) escaped a threat in the 15th, when Shin-Soo Choo singled and reached third on a sacrifice and a groundout. Chris Heisey came to bat and saw Matt Carpenter playing back at third base, so he decided on his own to try to bunt for a single.
Heisey missed the pitch, Choo reacted and took off and was easily out at the plate.
"You're not going to try a safety bunt with two outs," manager Dusty Baker said. "Heisey thought the third baseman was back, he was bunting for a hit. Choo was going to try to score."
I realize CD's post didn't implicate Dusty, but this probably belongs in the Rancid NLC thread, which nobody uses anymore because that division fucking owns now.

"You gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not."
QuoteDusty Baker reached out to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo to inform him that he's interested in taking over as the Nats manager with Davey Johnson stepping down, writes Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. Baker said that no interview has been scheduled, and Rizzo declined to comment on the Nats' managerial search. Kilgore adds that the Nationals may prefer a younger manager to replace Johnson, who was the oldest skipper in the Majors this season at age 70.
Don't call us, Dusty. We'll call you.
I feel a great disturbance in Jose Fernandez. As if millions of elbow ligament fibers suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible is about to happen. (https://twitter.com/JoeFrisaro/status/646450238840946688)

Clearly, Theo needs to rescue Fernandez before it's too late.
I don't know if any of you have noticed, but Cincy have lost 12 (twelve!) on the bounce and are now just a game out of the race for next year's no. 1 draft pick. Philadelphia, on the other hand, who would have that pick if the season ended today, have won their last four and are in grave danger of losing out. Fucking Phillies, eh? They can't even be properly shitty.
In any event, I think it's safe to say that the Reds won't be doing the Cubs any favours over the next three games.

There are around 4 or 5 players in next year's draft who are considered better than Rodgers or Swanson or anyone from this draft. I don't think tanking is much of an issue.
