Title: MGMT
Post by: BH on February 12, 2009, 03:55:58 PM
Can't decide if liking this album makes me ghey or not. It's really quite good. I normally hate synthesizer and 80's type music, but this has a good hook to it. "Kids" is a killer song. Gets stuck in your head.

I haven't been able to get into them at all. People seem to love it. I've heard very mixed reviews of their live show. I had the chance to see them at Lollapalooza but saw someone else instead. I'm not regretting it. I really like Electric Feel as a song but not enough to make me sit down with this album. I probably should, but it might be a little too poppy for me.

Kids bugs me - it's on the FIFA 09 soundtrack and when I hear it I just get bored.

It's definitely a very poppy album so I can see why some people hate it.  I think Time to Pretend and Kids are great tunes.  Really, the first five songs on the album are really good, then it really falls off.  I'm a sucker for upbeat stuff with good hooks though.

How similar are they to Cut Copy?  BH's description made me think of them.

Not at all. I dig Cut Copy though.

I had a Canuck play this for me last week: It made me think that the guys from Flight of the Conchords tried to get serious about an album.  Meh.

Congratulations (http://www.whoismgmt.com/congratulations-us), which is getting mostly mixed-to-favorable reviews, is out tomorrow.

Apparently they hired a 15-year-old as the webmaster.  In 1997.

It's an interesting follow-up; much less "poppy".  More of an acquired taste for me.
