Astros new manager is Brad Mills, former Red Sox bench coach.

Never heard of him.

Edit: Apparently he was a minor league coach in the Cubs system at one point.
I'm sure they have internets to confirm this.

You might even say he sneaked up on us.

Actually, I would say he snuck up on us.

That's fine with me.

Just as mysteriously, in a little more than a century, a new past tense form, snuck, has crept and then rushed out of dialectal use in America, first into the areas of use that lexicographers label jocular or uneducated, and more recently, has reached the point where it is a virtual rival of sneaked in many parts of the English-speaking world.

I would say that this particular fringe message board qualifies as jocular, so I'm sticking with it.

I meant to highlight the uneducated part but I fucked it all up. If only there was some kind an edit button. Ah fuck it.

If you say "snuck" over and over it sounds like the sound that Felix Unger used to make to clear his nasal passages.  Or was that "fineph"?
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

"Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that the Brewers have traded J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez.
Hardy was a goner with the Brewers committing to Alcides Escobar at shortstop and the Twins have long been a rumored destination for him, so this deal makes sense. Gomez fell out of favor in Minnesota after arriving in the Johan Santana trade, but the speedy center fielder will be given a clear path to everyday playing time in Milwaukee as the replacement for free agent Mike Cameron. Really nice move for the Twins.  And I can't wait for Gomez to get 600 at bats for the Brewers next year.

In three big league seasons, Gomez has never posted an on base average of .300.  Holy shit.  They should have just kept Corey Patterson.

JJ Hardy's always confused me.  He's a good defensive shortstop, with good range, but he is slow as fuck.

I give the Brewers credit for trading him instead of moving him to third base, as was rumored before they demoted him last year.  JJ's bat plays at short (well, in years previous to last year) but doesn't hold up at a corner.

But I can't give the Brewers credit for trading him for Carlos Gomez.  Why not just sign Usain Bolt if all you want is a fast motherfucker who never gets a hit?

Bump.

"Brewers signed RHP LaTroy Hawkins to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
It's always risky business giving a reliever a two-year contract, but that's what it took to snatch Hawkins away from the Astros. He's been among the most consistent setup men in the game for the last several years and rattled off an impressive season-long 2.13 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 2009. He may snatch some saves if Trevor Hoffman's age finally catches up to him. "

That writer sure loves snatch.
