Hendry has been the GM since July 2002 and has won three division titles and only one playoff series. His proclamation at the 2007 Cubs convention of, "We're going to get good, and we're going to stay good," already is haunting him. What we're lookin' at ain't good these days.
But if you fire Hendry (and Fleita and Wilken follow him out the door) whom do you bring in, and do you trust Ricketts and team president Crane Kenney to hire the right people? Think about that for a sec.

This bizarre belief that they can't fire Hendry astounds me. Seriously, the Cubs shouldn't fire a guy who's bad at his job because they might hire somebody that's worse? What sort of Yellonesque logic is that?
Also, I still want to know where this whole "OMG Fleita and Wilken will leave if Hendry is fired" thing comes from. Because it assumes that Hendry's going to immediately get another GM job and can then give these guys jobs comparable to the ones they have now with the Cubs. Unless they're so loyal to Hendry that they plan on taking jobs as fry cooks when Jim opens his Harold's Chicken Shack franchise.

I really don't think that's possible, but I'm so shell-shocked by these early returns that I don't want to tempt fate by pretending to be so sure.
Firing Hendry mid-season would have little to no impact. He still gets paid, and ownership can just stop him from giving out new contracts. And it's not like the Cubs have that many guys they'd want to trade that anyone else would want.
The logical thing for the Ricketti would be to clean house October 1, from Kenney down, and build a new organization from scratch.
I think we've got a better chance of seeing Richard Simmons Jr. than we do of seeing that.

This is the real solution. HOWEVUH, I don't think those rascally Ricketts Kids would be allowed to do this if they wanted to. You think ole' man Joe, some okie from the south that probably doesn't even like baseball and who built this ginormous financial empire with his own hands, only to have allowed himself to let his Dubbsian children take that hard-earned money and throw it into an enterprise that basically dropped in value, due to this global financial meltdown, as soon as they struck a sale price...you think he's going to allow

You're making it sound like Bill Wirtz redux. I don't think it's quite that simple. I don't think there's a Rocky in that family either.

The way in which Joe describes Tom as the perfect stereotype of an aimless, talentless trust fund assbag will surely raise the ire of MEATBALL PHYSICIAN.
I will watch it but I think I'll need to steel myself with a jug of whiskey first.
The longer you wait, the longer your stay in the Matrix.

Tis just a speed bump on the way to glory. Bahston fans might recall the score of Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. Just sayin'
I tell you what, I'm glad Mike Quade polluted the mound at Fenway with the human turds he marched out there tonight. It happened. It wasn't the end of the world.
Now it's time to give 'em the real stuff. The Cubs, such as they are, play well to a park like Fenway. I say they win the next two, Zambrano hits one out or at least off the wall tomorrow. And the next one of you lot who wants to take a shot at Quade will have to go through me. (||)
What say you?

Davis gave up seven runs on eight hits and three walks, and reliever Scott Maine served up two long-distance home runs, one of which was caught by Cubs President Crane Kenney after it bounced off a Volvo sign in the Green Monster seats in left-center field.

Even better, BAM felt that worthy of a highlight. That's how you know things are going swimmingly for your team: When your team president catching one of the other team's homers is the highlight of your highlight reel. Believe!

What a ridiculous game. If I didn't see it you would have never been able to convince me that the Red Sox didn't just catch Cub disease in that 8th inning.
After tomorrow, Cubs will be only 4 1/2 out despite being down three starting pitchers.

I just watched highlights of that 8th inning alone...if anyone was curious how our softball team looks like when we have our "Cody's" inning, that 8th inning'd do the trick. Jebus I was having flashbacks.
