DPD....and I'm not oblivious to my privilege.  I call people out quite a bit for failing to check their own.  And I do empathize with Julie's situation and can't pretend I know what it's like because I've had every advantage from jump street.  I just thought it was a dumb opinion and it should be okay to fairly point that out to someone with her intellect, experience and exposure.

Trying to reconcile that with straw-manning the definition of mansplaining made my brain hurt.

And I'm kinda glad my Desipio account seemed to have disappeared during all this. (Did we get h4x0r3d?)

Yes. The fucking straw-manning and almost a need to be wronged.

The level of petulant everybody has a damn crisis let's overanalyze who's insulting who in what way at this current moment is tedious as fuck.
Jesus, what the hell is wrong with you people?
Put the the keyboard, phone, whatever the fuck device down and go for a walk.

Yes, I'm old and I know where I'm posting but enough is enough.

I know it's kind of the Desipio thing to say any discussion is terrible once it's gone more than a page, but I don't think this has been that bad. I think everyone is being fairly reasonable.

I'm referring to twitter.

My Slaky-like rule is to make sure that 90% of my Tweets are posted after I get high.

Isn't it always after you're high?

This conversation sucks. Twitter sucks more. Julie made a comment in the context of a shitty hitting performance and her 35-plus years of watching the Mike LaCosses and Chris Capuanos of the world dominate the Cubs.

The Cubs are good, and SKO simply pointed that out. Ignore the police out there. Live life. Fuck Twitter.

A little internet hyperbole during a frustrating game and what do we get? The SKOPolice!

Thank the lord you are here to point out that "always" not only isn't a great word choice, but but WRONG FOR ALL TIME!!!  Because, if you hadn't pointed that out... the universe gets sucked down a giant black hole vortex into a singularity?

Chuck prefers to live in a world where half-baked, petulant, knee-jerk (and utterly wrong) opinions go unchecked.  His life would be infinitely less complicated as a result.

There are bad takes and bad takes.  Julie's "Always make bad pitchers look great" vs. Bayless' "Kobe's rape gave him sizzle" are two different levels of bad take. One should be sloughed off.  The other never should be forgotten and should disqualify a person from being in broadcasting.

I would say there's a comfortable middle ground of "one tweet pointing out how dumb that tweet was" in between "sloughed off" and "perpetually reminding a dude that he's a rape apologist".

I for one will be following Huey's crusade to make sure that no dumb comment on the internet go unchallenged with great interest.

So, I was looking at this and wondering, did Julie say something to you and I missed it?  Because this shit didn't just happen in a vacuum. Julie's got a lot of people who simply attack her reflexively for almost any comment, and as a result there are now a lot of people who will automatically jump to her defense for any perceived attack, regardless of your intent.

I mean, basically Huey and SKO are mad because if they randomly say something to Julie some other randos might yell at them.

My question is, why are they such crybabies?

As someone who picks on a lot of people on the internet, I try to make sure my targets are men and usually in the media or purveyors of horrible blog content. Personally, I think it's poor form to go after women and teenagers. I am not perfect but that's my semi-rigid code.

BUT if you are feeling the need to correct Julie or anyone who's been attacked for stupid shit I would kindly suggest that you dont' quote RT her with your Actually. Just reply to her. The quote RT is most likely universally considered a provocation.

You can ignore pretty much everything I've said here but these are things that being on that stupid goddamn website so often have taught me.

Thank's

Wanted to say that I agree with this and appreciate the perspective.

This is legitimately hard to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tU-D-m2JY8

That was horrible.
Cowards hiding behind the anonymity of the internet.
It's fucking repulsive.

Especially considering how a lot of us, myself included, have treated both of them in the past.

Julie blocked me on Twitter after I unfollowed her during the World Cup, so I never even got the chance to say something mean to her.

I mean, it's kind of a difficult situation. I've butted heads with her a number of times, and I would describe most of her opinions on the Bears and football in general as, like, sub PenFoe-ian in their stupidity. I don't feel comfortable ever disagreeing with her on twitter or whatever anymore because of the massive amount of unwarranted shit she takes. I look forward to a less misogynistic future where there's no other implication to me telling a woman in sports media that her take is dumb and bad.

Exhibit A:

If Al had said that, or any of us, we'd have rightfully had that quote thrown in our faces probably 150 times this year as the Cubs pound some shitty pitcher. Pank and I call out Julie on that kind of idiotic Fro Dog take and within minutes some vegan lady was yelling at us to leave her alone. I know a lot of sexist trolls attack Julie for no reason. Her sports takes are still mostly bad.

Did she have any thoughts on Junior Guerra?

I like Twitter just fine, but I usually just use it as a stream-of-consciousness brain dump, not a new way to argue with strangers about things. It turns out that's almost as big a waste of time than arguing with people on here.

I just want to make it clear that I am above this argument. You guys are overreacting. I am super calm and rational.

This is why Twitter was invented. I want him and Jose Canseco to start tweeting at each other.

You've been spraying to all Internet fields today with Len Dykstra's Twitter feed but I don't think anybody enjoys Len Dykstra's Twitter feed even 10% as much as you do.
