I would argue that Joe's worst move as manager of the Cubs was in game 6 when he used Chapman way more than he needed to in a game at hand, if those exist in the playoffs. At least Wade is fresh for three straight nights in Wrigley?

This may have already been said, I've been kind of drunk for a couple of days.   But we should all enjoy this for as long as we want to, it is ours forever and ever.  Nobody can take this away, and we fucking deserve it.  So there is no limit to when you can stop thinking about what actually fucking happened, almost crying, deciding to smile and say fuck you.  Because fuck you they fucking did it.

Good to know Joe West is still a fucking piece of shit.

I have very little problem with what West did there.  Maddon was stalling for time, West knew it, he tried to stop it and so Joe had no choice but to get himself into an argument and get tossed.  God knows I hate me some Cowboy Joe, but on this occasion he really was just umpiring the game.

He was within his right as an umpire to do it, but like Joe said, most umpires would have been more understanding of the moment and that for all that is stupid about baseball tradition it's still considered bad luck to warm up the bullpen while a guy has a no hitter going, and they'd have allowed the stupid pointless mound visit to give Chapman a bit longer to warm up. It was a violation of the "unwritten rules" while following the written rules. I don't know that people overreacted so much as we just like dumping heaps of shit on Joe West because he deserves it always.

I just don't see the problem.  West enforced the rules, Maddon argued and got himself ejected to buy time anyway, and West let him do it without getting bent out of shape about it.  Everybody's happy.  You can be sure that, had West allowed extra time, he'd have been hearing it from the Cards' dugout and the BFiB.

Oh yeah, I wasn't mad that West did it. He had the right. It's like being mad at a cop for giving you a ticket for going 60 miles (or what I believe you call "cubits" or something) in a 55. He's being overly strict but you were still speeding. I just get why Joe was mad, too.

At first I was really confused about what Joe was even arguing. I thought for a second maybe I misremembered the Hazelbaker AB and West had a missed a call or something and Hazelbaker had homered on 1-2 instead of 0-2. I'm just not going to tell the internet not to shit on Joe West, because it led to Kerry Wood shitting on Joe West, and that was worth the price of admission.

To be fair, Americans call it "miles per hour"

"Oh, right. I forgot. Here in the States, you call it a sausage in the mouth."

All Joe West had to do, instead of trying to pull Montero back when everyone else was already meeting on the mound, was to let him go but break up the meeting quickly. Maddon probably sends out Bosio and no one is talking about Joe West today.

Joe West is terrible. We should all be able to agree on that. It would have also been awesome if Fork's dude threw a no-hitter in that toilet.  These are things we can agree upon.

Let's make this a real amateur thread. I was in the Dominican last week for a Cardinal fan's wedding.  I asked my cab driver on the way to the resort where the Oscar Taveras tree was. Unfortunately, it was two hours away, so I could not take the only selfie of my life that I would have had no remorse about. Here is to Matt Holliday watching Jake's game at Mike Shannon's this past evening.

Does anyone really believe that one player would make a significant difference during a 13 day period in April?

Apparently so.

There are a lot of people pointing to the Braves calling up Jason Heyward in his rookie year and extrapolating that his Opening Day home run is why they made the playoffs by a single game (which is quite a stretch for a number of reasons, not the least of which is they won on that game by 11 runs).

Those people also ignore that he's no longer a Brave after they traded him due to his impending free agency. Which, of course, came a year earlier than it could have.

The Braves were a playoff contender both before and during Heyward's rookie season. The Cubs could possibly contend this year, but they'd need to have pretty much everything go right for that to happen. Not to mention, we saw the Cubs do this exact same thing with Baez last season, and with Rizzo a few years ago. And Rizzo got extended before he even became arbitration eligible. There's no reason to believe the Cubs won't do the same thing with Bryant if he proves to be the real deal.

In the 18 days that Bryant would be cooling his heels, there are only three games that could have significant downstream impact, the three against the Cardinals to open the season. Cubs are better off sticking to the plan.

I don't think there's even a remote similarity between how Baez and Rizzo were handled and how Bryant is being handled. Javy was called up once he hit their threshold for AAA AB's and he'd overcome his early season awfulness. Rizzo was also called up once he had enough seasoning AAA they felt he could be called up and not repeat the struggles of his first call up with the Padres.

Bryant has already got a half season at AAA. This is solely about control, not development, so yeah, that comparison sucks.

Also the extensions Rizzo and Castro signed are irrelevant as well, because the main reason control IS so important with Bryant is because Boras is his agent and he is extremely unlikely to sign an extension that may lead to him getting paid below market value.

Rizzo absolutely destroyed AAA pitching the year before the Cubs got him. And Baez could have just as easily been brought up last spring, he had a good camp.

As for Boras being Bryant's agent, he and Jepstink know the deal. If Bryant is the real McCoy, the Cubs will offer a deal that gives him more upfront dough in exchange for a few years of free agency, like they did with Castro and Rizzo. It's not like Theo's exactly a babe in the woods.

Find me a list of Boras clients who have allowed teams to buy them out of free agency in exchange for team friendly extensions. I'll wait.

Elvis Andrus and Carlos Gonzalez.

I'm not even really that sold on Headley either. I'd probably rather see them live with a bit of a LF black hole for a year and get a better idea what they have in Bryant, Soler, Schwarber, etc., then address that need either midseason or next winter. Just mentioned it as a way they could shore that up a bit going into 2015 if they were totally all-in.

That's why I'd really be interested in Upton if they could get him without giving up too much presumably due to him not being under contract past this year. You get a guy that can be a big part of contending in 2015, and then they could either try to extend him or let him go if they feel confident in the guys they've got coming up.

I believe the Cubs are one of the teams on Upton's limited no-trade list, which could complicate matters a bit.

I may just be a stalker/lurker, but I thought that I read/heard somewhere that his no-trade list concerning the Cubs may be a negotiating tactic in getting an extension before a trade is agreed to.

I thought I had the new analog pitching figured out, but I've been getting rocked ever since that one-hitter.  ERA is up to 6.75 and I'm getting extremely frustrated with the game at this point.  Is there some trick I'm missing?  I'm leaving a lot of balls up in the zone but I can't figure out what's going on.  The line between overthrowing the pitch and throwing it correctly with this pitching system is razor-thin.  I've been checking the pitch analysis and I'm getting a lot of "Late" and "Early" but it seems pretty arbitrary on the game's part considering I'm hitting right on the yellow line at the bottom of the meter.  Anyone have some tips?  I've tried every combination of slowly moving the stick back up the meter, moving the stick back up and holding it there like a followthrough, and flicking it forward once I hit the yellow line at the bottom, but no luck.  I keep putting the game down for a day or two thinking it'll reset my muscle memory but it doesn't work.  About to stop playing at this point.

Anyone else think that the white/black, good/evil may come down to the random kid in the jungle and Walt? Or are we at the point where we give up on Walt?

Back in Dec. somebody copied my debit card and lifted about two grand off it in two days.  I caught it before the bank, notified them, and had to wait about a week and a half for them to investigate the expenditure before they refunded me the cash.

Two grand.  Gone for more than a week.  And when they returned it to my checking account, I was reallyfuckinggrateful.  Guess I should have gotten PISSED and blogged about how much the bank -- and their apparently ridiculous policies designed to protect me -- sucks.

I was about to make a joke about Canadian health care, but then I realized you'd probably go batshit crazy and decided not to.

Naw, I just would've told you the story about how I had to take my wife to the emergency room last week and we were treated in a couple of hours, while her aunt is in Florida (with travel insurance) and had to go to the emergency room and was there for at least half a day.

Then again, since when is Florida a good representation of the rest of the US?

I hereby nominate Kurt Evans for the Hall of Fame of Interweb Contributors Who Are Able to Quickly Make Every Thread They Post in About Them.

I think you're a shoe-in for the first ballot, hoss.

You nominate, you think, can't you think for one second about poor Julie who's going to have to avert starvation by scrounging the cupboards for old packages of raman and expired cat food until she receives her next paycheck?  Christ on a bike!

Kurt, in case you were wondering even the lurkers hate you.
