I approve of their "make other teams wish they'd never heard of 'baseball'" strategy that they're using tonight.

The Cubs run differential this season is very nearly double that of the second best in all of baseball. Last year, for as good as they were, they were only +81 runs. This year they are already at +60. Of course, it's very early.

I'm starting to think they weren't even good last year. This team is playing like a juggernaut and the next two weeks could see them fatten up even more on the dregs of the NL.

Damn, you're right. Great next 3 (including Red) series for them. Looking at May, I won't like the stretch where they play 3 in Milwaukee, then 3 in SF (last game is a Sunday night) and them 3 in St Louis. No days off in between.

From August 1st on last year they were 42-18 with a +77. They're still better than that pace this year, but basically ever since they got healthy and the rookies had some experience under their belts last year (and Jake went from Very Fucking Good to Not Even Real)they've been this leviathan, it's unbelievable.

54-22 in their last 76 regular season games with a +137 run differential. That's 76 games of a 115 win pace.

I'm sure part of this is the feel-good last 12 hours for David Ross, but I'm ok with him (ignoring that they now definitely needed a backup)... I guess it comes from this: The players like David Ross, and enjoy making his final season special. So, if it makes the Cubs players happy, it makes me happy.

We can all agree the David Ross angst was just some sleep deprived tool with a newborn son being really impatient and bitchy about a Cubs team that was just waiting for everything to click and projecting said impatience and anger on the impotent backup catcher. On a team that's going to win anywhere from 95-158 games easily, and lead at least the NL in runs, he's not worth complaining about ever.

He also does seem like a legitimately cool dude, and there's no denying his throwing skills are still top notch. Also he supposedly put in a lot of extra time in the weight room and stuff trying to focus on being less hapless at the plate in his final go round and while I don't expect him to keep up his current legitimately-awesome offensive pace, I think he'll maybe crack a .600 OPS this time around.

Their next 9 games are against the Reds, Brewers and Braves. They will hit +81 by May 1.

There are 14 teams in the league right now that have scored 60 runs total or less, including the Royals and White Sox, two of the three best records in the AL. What's even more insane is that the Cubs have allowed fewer runs than any team but the Nationals, who have allowed 37 runs in 15 games vs the Cubs 36 in 16. The Cubs lead MLB in ERA and Runs Scored.

Theo Epstein is a fucking God.
