OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

If Morrow isn't hurt Joe can go fuck himself forever.

Joe does not have to fuck himself forever.

For now.

I couldn't sleep last night. Felt like I was going to throw up. Still kind of do, and I realize the terror I feel is nothing compared to what people of color and LGBTQ people and Muslims are feeling right now. I'm a straight white dude who works for a bank. I'll probably be fine.

I am having a hard time not hating the world and everyone in it right now. Even my son waking me up with his usual smile only depressed me because I'm having a hard time contemplating him growing up in an America that may not be safe or respect even basic civil liberties. I'm hopefully overreacting. I don't know. I'm probably going to take a long break from the internet and just focus on my family and friends and loved ones for awhile.
Yea, I agree.  That will be good for you.  I think one should always enjoy their family, friends and loved ones.  But seriously, nothing changes.  We all knew this.  People wanted to pretend that because a black man was elected president, everything was magically fixed far as race was concerned.  It's not.  There are tons of people who still don't believe in equality.  There are tons of people who are afraid of immigrants coming in and taking their jobs.  Instead of working harder and better, you go out and elect a person who will throw them all out!

It is easy to look now and say how fucked up we are but look at Europe.  For al the progressive bull shit they throw at us, there are people who throw bananas as black football players and do monkey calls.  Indians constantly get called "Pakis" in England.

It is what it is.  This world is fucked up.  I can't tell people what to do, because who am I?  But nothing changes for me.  Work hard and try to provide for the family.  Rest is all noise.

If the Democrats fail to win the mid-terms, I am seriously thinking about revoking my US citizenship. I never thought I would want to disassociate with my country of birth.
I am not happy with the results as well, but this is a matter of personal choice.  Good luck to you.

Every move he made got us here. He's the greatest Cub manager since Frank Chance.

The way the Cubs have fucking owned the shit out of TJ both times he's declared them done makes my cockles tingle

Me too. But 1984 has done this to me.

Oh for fuck's sake, snap out of it.  You're not the only one who experienced '84.  And '03 was identical, blah blah fucking blah.  But in '03, they not only finally won a series but also won the Game 3 in Florida that everybody at the time was convinced they would lose; you'll recall the game ended on defensive miscue that was immediately erased by a Florida baserunning gaffe.  They beat Pittsburgh last year, they absolutely destroyed St. Louis.  There's enough out there to show the fates favor nobody; it's just that, as our Head Moran pointed out a couple weeks ago, when you rarely make the postseason, the times you fall short are magnified.  Those past horrors--which again, have NOTHING to do with today and everything to do with your own neuroses-- are evening out in any event.  I'm not denying I'm not scarred by it; but I'm also not going to irrationally impose those events on this fucking awesome group of players that should never fucking be doubted because FUCK YOU.

Knock off your own personal melodrama and get over it.  Repeat after me--the past has NOTHING to do with this team.  If they get bounced in the next round, it'll be because they didn't play well and/or played a hotter team.  It happened last year and you survived.  Enough with the fatalistic bullshit.

And hang with your goddamn team for crissakes.

I can't really THIS this because lord knows I do more than my fair share of panicky dipshit bitching, but the only thing that would possibly be against them in this postseason is that short-series baseball is a fickle asshole. The Cardinals lost an NLCS on a walkoff homer from Travis fucking Ishikawa. They got blanked in two different world series by a previously "cursed" team. They probably have more playoff heartbreaks than the Cubs simply because they've been there more often. If they lose god knows I'm going to go down swearing but I'VE SEEN IT TOO MANY TIMES is not one of those complaints. This team has as much to do with the 2003 Cubs as it does the 1942 St. Louis Browns. The beauty of this team is I haven't seen most of the shit they are doing before.
Maybe this goes to I admit it thread, but I have to say, non game-day SKO is rational.  During the games, reading your panicky tweets makes me want to throw my phone through the wall.

Do you think Joe sleeps with one of Travis Wood's jerseys at night so that he's never too far away from his heloved

I think he's taken notice of the 7 LHH in the Giants lineup and decided to give Montgomery the night off seeing as how he threw 5 innings last night/this morning or whatever. Just a hunch.

Cool. Maybe he could take notice of the fact that Wood doesn't strike anyone out and either of those runs scoring probably meant the game so maybe leave in Grimm the guy who gets Ks and is good vs lefties rather than play the flyball pitcher who never Ks anyone with runners on 2nd and 3rd. But handedness.

Or maybe he should've gone to Edwards first, Strop 2nd, etc.  and pitched his best relievers to keep it close.

But everything you said too.
You two stay in holiday inn express last night?

Max Scherzer just threw a no-hitter (after hitting Jose Tabata with two outs in the ninth to lose a perfect game).

Nice choice, Jim.

At what point does Lester's inability to hold runners, his 4+ ERA, and two years of David Ross cause us to question whether Theo's loyalty to former Red Sox clouds his judgment, given that Cy Scherzer could've been had?

Hey. Get fucked.

I'd like to see the #'s on this team when the score's within 2 runs either way. I'm sure they have great #'s for bases loaded/risp/runner on 3rd less than 2 outs, but god it seems like they leave empty-handed in close games WAY too often that ends up costing more than not.
I don't know the stats but it couldn't have cost them that much. They have the best record in baseball.  So it's your eyes test against mine.

I'm probably just bitter and biased but I had to watch the Cardinals feed of the game and when Hazelbaker hit that home run you'd have thought he gave them the lead. McLaughin went full Chip Caray screaming "THAT'S HOW YOU BREAK UP A NO HITTTTTERRRR". Insufferable.
"This has been the cubs year, but if these two teams play in the playoffs, the cardinals will beat them."

The only prob I have with this team besides some occasionally sketchy work from the bullpen is the real lack of killer instinct at times. I know I'm being anal about this, but FUCK ME this team's absolute horseshit when there's bases loaded and less than 2 outs. Like 4 times in the last week or so and they get fuckall...It's supposed to be considered a failure if you can only bring 1 run across in those situations, but lately they can't do shit. The other day when Rondon shit the bed against the Tards, I told a co-worker after they failed in the 7th to score shit with the bases juiced and no outs they were going to lose. Now I'm pretty sure no one here foresaw that epic meltdown, but still. They get a couple and go to the 8th with say a 5-1 stead of 3-1 lead and things are prob looking different. Tonight's 9th wouldn't have been so dramatic had they plated another run or 2 with bases loaded and 1 out in the 3rd either. I'm in no way saying they should get 2+ runs every time in these situations, but fuck have they been horrific lately at them. Also, let's add that while Wood's overall #'s are good, there's no way he should pitch any high-pressure situations the rest of the season if possible. He gives up a metric fuckton of HR's out of the small amount of hits he's given up.
WHY CAN'T THEY WIN ALL OF THE GAMES???!!!!????!!!!

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're tanking this game on purpose.

They didn't do a very good job of it.

I'm gonna assume he was referring to the tanking in regards to "starting Heyward/Coghlan/Ross back-to-back-to-back", because bitching about not scoring a run in the first five innings against Carlos Martinez is panicky even by my standards. Martinez is like the one guy they have who can actually pitch.
I wouldn't go that far.
