Since being a Cubs fan is most often a joyless, unrewarding, punch-you-in-the-balls experience, I figured there should be a thread to remind us that it could be worse.
Example 1: The 2010 D-Backs
1. The 2010 D-Backs have now gone 31 straight innings without scoring a single run. Not only scoreless, they haven't even gotten a runner to third base in this stretch.
2. The D-Backs have given up 88 home runs this season, the next highest is the Orioles with 63.
3. The D-Backs not only have the worst team ERA in baseball (5.79) but the bullpen has an ERA of around 7.70 (I don't know a site where they have this stat, but it's by far the worst in the league).
4. Aaron Heilman is by a vast margin their best bullpen pitcher.
So yeah, they paid a shit-ton of money in 2001 and won a World Series, and maybe they cut Bobby Howry a week or two ago (from the aforementioned pathetic bullpen) and then the Cubs picked him up but all things considered...it could be worse.
Que everyone with:
5. They have to live in Arizona.
So a preemptive fuck you all for that.
Yes, it could be. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AFf0ysgNiM)

I'd accept several years of awful baseball in return for a World Series.
At least Cubs pitchers haven't come close enough to a perfect game this year to get robbed of one. (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AixVm_Ojw7Qdx6vLENe2nEg5nYcB?slug=ap-joycescall)

The worst part is, that perfect game would have saved Detroit.

Jim Joyce, with his nice 1892 stache, is not a blue-collar man.

That whole thing played out way better than it very likely could have. Galarraga was unbelievably cool about the blown call, and Jim Joyce sounded like he was about to cry when he was talking after the game.

Pen is going to be rooting even harder for Galarraga and Detroit once SI publishes a maudlin article about that game in next month's issue.

DPD to mention that I forgot to add:
6. They've lost 10 games in a row.

No, but I'm sure the Cubs can bring in Milt Pappas to sing the 7th Inning stretch one game, and have him sit in for a couple of innings on both radio and TV and make it feel like it's 1972 all over again.
So the point of this thread is "at least we are not supporting the D'Backs or the Orioles"? Somehow that doesn't make me feel better about this train wreck.

Quote from: by zevkalman on Jun 3, 2010 4:57 PM CDT I work with a lot of Orioles fans. They walk around in a daze avoiding MLB box scores. They just had a piece in the Washington Post today how Nats fans are starting to appear in places where only Orioles fans lived.
"I'm not much of a chemistry guy, you know. Chemistry to me is a pinch-hit double with the bases loaded"--Jim Frey, Chicago Tribune, 1985.
Where does this guy work? Combine that with Yeti's avatar, and that'd be "awe some". Seriously, to actually have to dodge box scores? Holy shit.
Aaron Heilmann is going to be the new Dbacks closer.
The Orioles continue to grow their impressive collection of shitty ex-Cubs. (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100622&content_id=11445504&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)
