We get to heckle an assload of Cardinals fans, one of whom wants to fight an entire section. He finally decides discretion is in fact the better part of valor.

Apex is indeed the tits and the tops.
Well, I was lucky enough to attend today's game against the Satanic Fowl with Desipio All Stars Apex, Fork and Huey and it was probably one of the best games I've ever been to. When we showed up I was feeling pretty down about the Cubs chances given that we had just watched the pre game and Lou told us that Trachsel was going to pitch on three days' rest. The events of Black Sunday had left all of us feeling a bit down about the fate of the Cubs.
But today was one to remember. The Cubs obviously pounded the ever-loving shit out of St. Louis' poor excuse for pitching as Ted Lilly did what he does best: win after a Cubs loss. As the runs added up and the empty beer cups stacked up the euphoria was there. The crowd was great and we represented with the HGH chant like you've never heard. Not to mention Fork's one liners. As the Cardinal fans streamed for the exits in the seventh inning (best fans in baseball my pimply ass) one of them actually came up to try and challenge our entire section to a fight. Granted, this guy looked like he had T Rex arms and a medicine ball head...I don't know what he was thinking. It would have been great had security not dragged his ass back out and pointed him toward his trailer, but alas...
Then we hit up Sluggers for some post game revelry and some batting practice. We then headed downstairs where we noticed all of the pictures of famous ex-ballplayers including Dawson, Maddux and wait...is that a picture of Steve Garvey??? Well, it was anyway. Until Apex decided to shatter the glass with his fist. Probably one of the funniest things I had ever seen. Fuck Steve Garvey. And fuck the Cardinals.
Long live Desipio.

QuoteOn the trade ride home I caught a few people looking at my hand and then looking away real quick trying not to make eye contact.
Heh heh heh...
I felt like Ted Lilly. Only righthanded.
Apex bled for 1984. Fantastic.
As it happens, I'm now 4-0 when I sit with morans.
And Slak's pic doesn't do justice to what Apex did to the Garvey pic.
Cut his knuckle? Sure.
Commited an act of wilfful vandalism? Yes, but fuck Sluggers and their five dollars for one beer.
Left some DNA behind? Yes, you, too, can grab yourself a piece of Desipio history by scraping some of his blood. Just go to the bottom part of that bar and look for the Garvey-in-San-Diego-uniform that also happens to be surrounded by broken glass.
As for the game? Little Richie Ankiel getting saddled with the golden sombreero made the entire day worth it. Good times, fellas.

Loud enough for Cards fans listening/watching at home and surfing the web to hear it. I definitely noticed the bleachers had picked it up too, not because of us. I'm sure they came prepared. The crowd was excellent all day.

We were fine, although Apex and Slaky were sure to trample over my own personal cardinal rule of no cussing. So outside of a few f-bombs and a handful of cocksuckers, we were golden.
Also, i didn't mean to come off as a class warrior by justifying Apex' Fletch-like punch of the Garvey pic because Sluggers charges so much for beer...so let me say that the destruction of property was warranted because said destruction of property was Steve Fucking Garvey in a Fucking Padres uniform at eye level. Indeed it is. Since 1996, I guarantee that I've drank more beer at Cody's than any other bar in Chicago by at least a 3:1 ratio. We hold our annual Fantasy Football auction in their beer garden Labor Day Weekend, and Geno has sponsored our softball team since '03. I also played on a darts team that played out of Codys in January 1999. I used to say that it was the finest beer garden in Chicago. The deck's gotten a bit worn, but it's still pretty tits-out that you can play bocce ball and outdoor darts.

Nice. Were you guys in Section 206? I was in 205 row 6. A job well done with the HGH chants. I should have known you guys were Desipiots.
204. Row 6. So, apparently, exactly one section to your left.
Oh yeah. My other left. You guys were pretty damn loud. Fuck the Cardinals.
Too bad we didn't know. 5 Desipiots rock 25% harder than 4 do.

Quality joint.
Cody's = Steak Sauce. Ogden.

I've got some friends that live half a block away and they're unreserved Cody's boosters. I've always written off their enthusiasm as due primarily to convenience, but I'll have to stop giving them shit for this now that I know it's Desipiot Approved(tm).
The beer garden/playland is sweet, they've got an impressive beer selection for a neighborhood joint and the place is ogden-friendly, which is nice.
Tits-out? Balls-out? Yeah. I guess I'd have to agree.
One night after our locals bitched out early, another friend and I crawled from Cody's over to Millie's (http://www.chicagobarproject.com/Reviews/Millie's/Millie's.htm), a somewhat less friendly neighborhood dive. I got hassled there by a regular who decided he didn't care for the fact that I was wearing a tie. It felt like it was about 50/50 that this guy was gonna try to throw down over the issue, but dude settled down after a long pee and left us to enjoy our High Lifes in peace.
Still, if I'm looking for a dive in the area, I think I'll stick to Johnny's. For the atmosphere. And there's a jukebox you can set your watch to. (Anybody like Donna Summer?)
Shit yo, you folks know how to make a fella jealous! I woulda taken up the offer if I was able to walk (regained that ability 2 days ago, re-lost it today, D'oh!). The better man went, though. But, shit, I so would have headbutted that picture instead of the knuckle-crackin' job it received. Still, hats off to you gentlemen.
Did some backreading and saw a bunch of panty-bunching. Glad to see you guys are starting to sack up now. Spares you guys my bitchin' ass rant that would have included a picture of Depends. GO CUBS.
ALSO, GO DESIPIO FOOTBALL-ONLY SECTION, PLEASE! PLEASE! We got an underpopulated basketball section, but no football -- what up with that! Yeah yeah, I know, Shut Up Simmer, You Are A Douche. But, please!

That"s great Millies story. Is it still there?
I lived right by Hamlin Park (On Hamilton, between Barry and Wellington) from August of '96 through January 2002--the longest stretch I've ever been in one place in 11+ years in the city--and I never once mustered up enough curiosity to drop in to Millies for a beer. Reading your account, I can see that my instincts were a good one.

This was just last winter (January, IIRC).
So, yeah: very much still there.
It definitely seemed like a stronger "regulars" scene there than I think I've witnessed anywhere since those childhood luches with my dad at his regular watering holes in the 'burbs (UBAA and Grandpa's, if you really wanted to know).
A distinctly old school atmosphere. We felt eyes on us the moment we walked in.
No great shakes, though, really...

That crust no longer has any meaning for me. I'll never taste another slice of thin crust as long as I live unless it's bought in a box and popped in my oven at home for 99 cents. Now that I can get stuffed pizzas any fuckin' time I want, that's all I want ever. Slaky and I had a couple slice of hand tossed the other day that were palatable, but we were pretty drunk and would have eaten shoe sole if it had enough parmesan on it.

I had an Art of Pizza stuffed pie for the first time this past weekend while dogsitting for my friends on Barry. As gooey as billed, and ready for pickup in 30.
They may not be open late enough for optimal bar hour enjoyment, though. The Chicago's on Lincoln just north of Barry will be.
It should also be noted that the Wicker Park/Humbolt Park tamale guy makes it up to Cody's quite regularly, too.
Before we redirect over to the thread on 'za, anyone have the pizza pot pie at the Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder Company on Clark?

I just remember being happy to live in Chicago and having a bloody hand whilst riding the train drunk back home. I'm sure people sit on the Red Line leaking blood from their fist and grinning from ear to ear all the time but it was a new experience for me and I think I and the City itself are better for it.

We get to heckle an assload of Cardinals fans, one of whom wants to fight an entire section. He finally decides discretion is in fact the better part of valor.
The Chiefs get a new TE for my fantasy team.
A picture of Steve Garvey in a Padres uniform a Tards fan's face at Sluggers gets pwned.
Words can't do it justice.
My hand scars explained in five years'd.
So help you God if you're injured for Thursday's doubleheader. You're such a Farnsworth.
Shit, I'll be there bleeding through my batting gloves and hitting ropes down the RF line to plate our only run of the game again. It'll just add to my mystique. I got no job but I got mystique comin' out my ass crack, ogden.
Shut up, Pex. You're a douche.
Apologies for linking to the forever-loading SB Nation, but I always used this documentation of mitigating butthurtedness (http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2007/9/10/92245/3099#1441800) to validate that day. It may have apparently cost us a charter member of Desipio Nation (Where hast thou gone, Brian?), but I daresay it was well worth it. Viva Desipio!

No, but I think the regret he had for us being in his seats were enough to get out of Dodge.

Either that or he got a life or a son or something and forgot all about our dark corner.

It's probably a good thing I couldn't make it, because I have a feeling I might have taken that douche up on his offer to go.
Any reaction to the HGH chant? How loud did it grow?
Suuuuuuure you would, you fat fucking fascist.
