Title: The Fukkake Bukkake thread
Post by: PTanner on April 01, 2008, 07:01:06 AM

As good as advertised. I would have liked to see Lou send him on Kendall after he walked.

He ain't gonna do that every day, but he is going to get on base more than 40% of the time, which is why I want him batting 2nd.  Or on this shitstain of a lineup, 1st.

I'll say it again: I'm very excited for this season to get going in full gear. I hate the day off after the opener, but I love what the Cubs are going to do this year. It's going to be fun.

My favorite Cubs this year:

DLee
Carlos
Kosuke

Special Mention goes to a non-Game 1 Kerry Wood

Bump-san

A two run double on a picture perfect at bat, which followed a perfect bunt that lead to a run.  Fuke has more than a clue out there (and the Cubs come back from 3 down to 2 up).

That bunt single was the splooge-worthiest thing I've seen a Cubs hitter do since Aramis' 3-run "Ohhh, BABY!" against the Brewers last year.

The good thing about having Gameday Audio in my opinion is that if I can't catch the whole game, I can listen to the game (Or just parts of it) afterward if I wish. I missed all but the first two and the ninth innings today due to work, so I am now listening to the big seventh inning rally.

I am surfing the internet, having just had a) bacon, eggs and sausage for breakfast, with fresh coffee and b) an enormous poo.  I might have a wank some time this afternoon, having not had one this morning.

Anybody else?

By the way, how insecure do you have to be to type "in my opinion", in a sentence in which you say how nice it is to be able to catch something you previously missed?  Yeah, I fucking HEARTILY disagree with that, BC.  In MY opinion, it's fucking SHIT that you can do that.

Why do you keep polluting the board with this pish?  Do you really think anybody wants to hear it?

Nah.  The guy usually knows.  Pulling the goalie involves the coach and the players are all aware of the extra attacker.

Racism, ignorance... it's all the same.  Sadly, I think those people mean well, or at least aren't ill-intentioned, in a really perverted way.

I'll stick to "Fuckyoudome" because it's funny.  And because I'm sure I was one of 5% of Cubs fans who knew how to pronounce his name when he was signed.  It's nice to know a good chunk of that 5% flock to this board.

Of course he had to go to wikipedia. It's not common knowledge to know that Dickens was a 19th century author and not 4,000 years old.

You went to Wikipedia and looked up when Charles Dickens was born. I hope it was worth your time.

Of course he had to go to wikipedia. It's not common knowledge to know that Dickens was a 19th century author and not 4,000 years old.

Really?  Because I would have BET that his tales of industrial era disiillusionment predated the blind poet's tales of the Trojan War.

That old hack couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. I compare favorably to Homer and Sophocles. Ragnork of the Big Cave? We'll see, but anything is certainly possible.

Aw, let's give joesoxfan a break. He and his fellow Sox fans have lightened up some. They've even forgiven Billy Buckner. Using Joe Sox fan's math, he only booted that ground ball against the Mets in a Game 6 that was already tied up 448 years ago.

It's also nice to have a guy who actually plays well at home.  Check out these home splits:

OBP - .588
SLG - .731
OPS - 1.319

Small sample size, but still.

I'm definitely hoping Fuky shoves it up our asses and has a solid year. He's certainly earned himself some more playing time as opposed what might have happened if he had put up another 0-fer.

TH.  Four hits and four runs in one game doesn't really prove anything one way or the other, but it does take some pressure off and buy him some time.  I hope this is the start of a recovery for him, I really do.

I think it proves that he's able to make an adjustment at long last. You could definitely see him staying back and off of that front foot so he can drive the ball. The dude has the skills to pay the bills. We've all seen it. The question was whether he was complete headcase incapable of changing his swing or whether he was just frustrated and out of sorts over the transition from Japan to MLB. Looks like we got a little tiny piece of the right answer finally. I for one am encouraged. Now, if you'll excuse me I have some porn with pixelated coochie regions to fap to.

One game.

No shit. What's that got to do with me enjoying a little porn before work?

His Fukuness is all well and good, but this song and prance happened last year at this time, too.  I know he works the count and can generate a robust OBP, but pull a .600 SLG and .780 OPS out of your rice bowls through July or August and then I'll SPLOOOGE!

Keep up the good work, PAL.

Are you saying you'll be equally impressed with a .600 slugging percentage and a .780 OPS? Let's say he cools off and puts up a .360 OBP. Then he'd need to slug a meager .420 to put up a .780 OPS. Would that impress you? I don't understand these IAN benchmarks of success at all.

Lee is the only hitter on the team not sucking in June. Soriano's 5 hits are good enough for the 2nd-best OPS so far this month, if that tells you anything.

It does.  It tells him that he has a lineup full of veteran hitters who are underperforming but have had enough at-bats in their career that he can't just walk up to them in the cage and fix their swing.

It also tells him that he's got some AAAA players in the lineup that are just short on talent, not coaching.

Also, it also tells him that his best hitter is hurt.

Sure Ivy6, just ignore the fact that Gerald Perry is to blame because they're not hitting.
I mean...they clearly don't know how to hit, it must be the teaching.

Perry taught all of the hitters to stand on one foot and swing with the knob-end of the bat.  The results have been, predictably, terrible.

So, I should have waited until this year to bash A Sor?

Well, it would have made more sense than what you've been doing for the past few years.  So, sure.  You should have waited.
Do you recall his April last year?  It made this year's May look good.

Oh, No!  It's Making Well-Reasoned Arguments Backed With Facts! Run! (http://www.theonion.com/content/opinion/oh_no_its_making_well_reasoned)

Damn you.  I was keeping that one in my back pocket, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it.

Chuck talking about Soriano is about as perfect as it gets.

What impresses me is that that sentence shouldn't make sense at all, but it does in context.

Wittenmeyer quoting Fukudome who was talking about his 2007 elbow surgery,

"'I didn't feel the pain physically, but I must have been subconsciously feeling the pain of the elbow,'' said Fukudome, still reluctant to openly admit pain. But when asked if it was a factor last season, he said, ''Probably it was.''

I know that there is an alternate universe where that statement makes sense.

July update for the benefit of Lousy Kermit:

.288/.377/.577/.904 OPS

And it's only 10 games, but he's got a .409 OBP when he hits leadoff. And this can't hurt:

QuoteKosuke Fukudome's Japanese hitting coach, Kyosuke Sasaki, is expected to join the Cubs today in Philadelphia so he can work with his star pupil for the next week or so.

''We're going to put him in uniform and let him observe, and if need be, he can work with Fukudome all he wants,'' Piniella said. ''He's got our blessing.''

Sasaki, who has a longtime relationship with Fukudome, worked with the Cubs' center fielder in the offseason and visited Chicago in May for some more work. Fukudome credited Sasaki for helping him get off to a strong start this season.

He's still one of the two most fundamentally sound players (along with DLee) we have.

an OPS of over .400 in the leadoff spot has to be good, right?

Thank Gord we play in a shitty division, where these types of things can be found out in July and not in April.

I agree.  Sure, he can look like a mess at times, but the only real options we have for leadoff are Fukkake and Theriot, and I think I'd rather have the guy who knows how to run the bases.  Also, until Bradley starts really driving the ball, I don't think he'd be a bad option at the top.  Despite how poorly he's been hitting, he still has an above-average OBP.  If he's not going to be driving in runs, I'd rather see him scoring them.

"Multiple sources tell Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com that the Cubs recently approached the Red Sox to "gauge their interest" in Kosuke Fukudome.

McAdam writes that the Red Sox have walked away from talks, at least for now, because the Cubs have refused to take on a significant part of Fukudome's remaining salary. Fukudome, 33, will earn $13 million this season and another $13.5 million in 2011. The Red Sox have a clear need for an outfielder right now, but that is a significant price to pay for a player who has batted just .261 with a 776 OPS in the major leagues. No-trade clause aside, the Cubs will have a very difficult time trading him to any team."

Owed $13MM and $13.5MM for two years AND a no-trade?  Wow.

Seriously...Soto is untradeable?

Even if my dislike is misguided, he's not that good.

I'd trade Soto before Marmol.

Doumit, Olivo, Buck, Jaso, Suzuki, Paulino, Barajas, Napoli...

All catchers hitting more or less as well as Soto this year that are cheap.

Edit: Napoli and Doumit make about $3.6, so that's actually not that cheap, though probably no more than Soto will get for arbitration.

Why are you using this year as a benchmark?  John Buck barely has a lifetime OPS above .700.  It means nothing that he has finally managed to string together 150 or so non-shitty at-bats.  Miguel Olivo has also sucked for his entire career.

Also, even if we were just talking about this year, Ronny Paulino's OPS is more than 100 points lower than Sotos, which apparently -- to you -- means he's hitting "about as well as Soto."  Ryan Doumit's OPS is 80 points lower than Soto's.  Same thing there.  Kurt Suzuki's is 70 points lower.  That's not "about as well."

How about, since most of those guys are like 30 years old, you use their career numbers instead of 2.5 months of this season? This doesn't take an advanced degree in statology to figure out.

I don't think Soto's untradeable, but he's a still-kinda-young catcher with a career .818 OPS. Those don't grow on trees like Miguel Cabreras do.

Maybe Hendry can package Colvin and Soto together to snare another bullpen arm that can complement John Grabow and REALLY anchor the pen once and for all.  Chad Qualls, perhaps?

I was commenting on Hendry's propensity for overvaluing relievers, not your trade idea.  I completely agree Colvin could be a good trade chip right now.

What quality major league ready player will Colvin net in return that can do anything for the Cubs this season?  I don't understand this idea at all.  But, I guess that's the least suprising of things and something else.

Because that's totally what I said.  I apologize, Colvin's awesome.  We should never trade him, ever.  I'm sure his value will only increase.

Who said anything about this season?

Trade chip means including him in a package, I assume, to increase value of said hypothetical offer. Some of you guys are attached to Colvin and I'm not sure I understand why.

Oh good lord, before you people all end up arguing the same thing let's just fill out the questionnaire:

1. Do you think Tyler Colvin is a trade chip?
2. If yes, for what would you trade him? (please be specific about position and age of player)
3. Would that person be a pick up for a playoff run this year, or a person who can help the team next year?

My point exactly. I think IAN here is confused in thinking people are willing to trade Colvin out of a deluded sense that this team is only a trade deadline acquisition away from contending. I think everyone here knows they're out of it, but would be willing to trade Colvin to get a player that has value for the next couple years. I just don't know who that player would be or what position he would be at. Unless we're packaging him to get Adrian Gonzalez to replace the deceased Derrek Lee.

As bad and frustrating as they have been, they are *only* 6.5 out. That's closer than I would have expected just by watching this team.

What quality major league ready player will Colvin net in return that can do anything for the Cubs this season?  I don't understand this idea at all.  But, I guess that's the least suprising of things and something else.

Playoffs? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3-eavMSBnk)

That's what I was thinking everyone else was thinking and it was making my head hurt.  If trading him makes the team better for the next couple of years, I'm all for it.  I just don't know if it's all that feasable that he plus anybody else's corpse on this team gets the Cubs there.

I agree with everybody.

So, just so I have it right...only trade Colvin is it makes the team better.

Well, that depends ...

Better now or better later?

And how much better? Are we talking Playoffs?

Anyway, to go back to BH's post, I would trade Colvin in a heartbeat if he was going to bring back a good major league player in return.

Maybe Hendry can package Colvin and Soto together to snare another bullpen arm that can complement John Grabow and REALLY anchor the pen once and for all.  Chad Qualls, perhaps?

Because that's totally what I said.  I apologize, Colvin's awesome.  We should never trade him, ever.  I'm sure his value will only increase.

Is that significant in your opinion? What would be a really high number?

Time for Theo to right Hendry's trade-deadline wrong! (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-sox-send-humber-to-dl-release-fukudome-20120622,0,3436038.story)
