Title: The Venture Bros.
Post by: Internet Apex on May 07, 2008, 09:11:56 PM
Please tell me I'm not the only one here in love with this cartoon. I would think our Futurama heads would be all about it.

You can find an assload of information about the upcoming third season here: http://jacksonpublick.livejournal.com/

My girlfriend bought me both seasons on DVD for our anniversary. All I got her was some snazzy looking Japanese tea set. You have to get girls nice things. Pretty things. Things they won't ever use. You listening, boys?

Check this out:

I started getting into it about the time Cartoon Network stopped showing it.  Now I wait on pins and needles for episodes I haven't seen to rotate through the On Demand menu.

I'm a really big fan of this show. It's kind of a shame that most of the rest of the Adult Swim lineup is pretty much comprised of shit .Though...Home Movies (running in re-runs) is pretty good. I really can't wait for the third season of Venture Brothers, though.

As you don't appear to have been on the receiving end of one yet, and I'd hate you to miss out :

Shut up, Paul, you're a Douche.

Thanks for the link to the season three trailer!

That trailer was better than the last two full seasons of The Office and all but the last episode of last season's Curb Your Enthusiasm.

No Wire. No Sopranos. No Deadwood. The Shield still a ways off.

My favorite show is this cartoon. There's nothing in second place.

It is a great show.  Why is Bob Newhart in that picture up top while Dean Venture isn't?

There are a few celebs hidden in there. On the blog where I swiped it (link above) they give you the list. Dean wasn't in that trailer either was he? Hmmmm...

Watching season one right now. This is a pretty awesome show.

Dr. Venture is pretty much awesome. And Dr. Girlfriend is also awesome.

Add: Finished first disc of season one. Steak sauce.

The Ghost Pirate thing was just awesome.

I just finished Disc 1 last night, too.  Great recommendation, Apex.  I love how abrupt the endings are.  And Brock Samson's rage is a sight to behold.  Love the episode when his secret agent license expires and he keeps wanting to murder the bartender who makes fun of his mullet.

When 21 and 24 started arguing about Smurfs I actually said out loud: "I am the target demographic for this show."

Venture Bros. is outstanding.

Wait til you get to the second disc of Season II. That's when this show REALLY hits its stride. I think the first season is good but the second season blew my mind so many times I can't count. And season three is off to roaring good start with last night's ep. Hurry up fuckers so I can discuss this shit with you without worrying about spoilers.

You can watch just about all of them on adultswim.com if there's some sort of delay or they run out of discs or whatever. Plus you could borrow mine any time. I own the whole set.

Maybe I should just forgo Netflix and buy the discs.  If you're saying it gets better than Disc 1 of Season 1, I'm pretty much sold.  Plus, I have gift cards.

You shouldn't. That show just keeps getting better. The finale for season one blew my mind, and the finale for season 2 is better.

3.2 - Tits. Out. Gil. Hodges.

That Dr. Killenger is quickly becoming my favorite character. He emasculated Brock Samson for fuck sake! Everything with that guy is a giant build-up to an abrupt anti-climactic ending though, which leads me to believe he'll be back for more at a later date.

Kind of like the real Dr. Kissenger. His influence over the powerful never seems to die. You can read more about it in the Bible.

Steak.

Yeah, I just finished season one and should be getting both discs of season two on Wednesday. Fantastic show.

I wanted to mention my man-cartoon love for Dr. Orpheus. Holy shit that guy is awesome.

That episode with the college stuff was genius.

Don't worry pumpkin, Daddy does this all the time! Evel Knievel, David Blaine, both of them were daddy's clients. Even Ronald Reagan, until he bounced a check.

3.2 - Tits. Out. Gil. Hodges.

Steak.

Agreed.  Missed the season premiere, but this one certainly didn't disappoint.

Where can I get me a Magic Murder Bag?

Finished Disc 1 of Season 2 yesterday.  You are in for a treat.  I think it was from Season 1, but I thought the "Ignore me!" alien was going to be the death of me.

Thank you, Apex.  Thank you very much.

Did you notice Stephen Colbert as the voice of Mr. Impossible (stretchy dude)?

The "Ignore me!" alien was a fucking riot. When he yelled it at the cab driver I lost my shit completely. I've seen that episode three times now and it just flat out never gets old. This series kicks up about 30 notches on the second disc of season two. Wait til you see the Scooby Doo gang. Oh, holy crap.

I did not, because I was distracted by that episode being so fantastic.  When they open the "Flame"'s chamber and he starts screaming and running around?  Choice.  As soon as I'm done with these, I'm probably going to rewatch them.

Last two episodes have been great.  Last night's have been my favorite of all time.  When the Cap'n rushed into the room with his arm tied off screaming "I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE" and they tranqed him, I lost my shit.

Nice...I'd like to get an Order of the Triad shirt, but they only sell the shirt for that week's episode for a week (until the next episode is shown) and then it is gone.  So, if you want a OSI shirt, you need to order by August 9th.

OH HELLYESS!

I didn't understand this Venture Bros. season premier at all. And that did not hinder my sploogefest for it one single iota. I'm sure there were a ton of references to graphic funny pages that I don't understand so I'm going to watch again with the interwebs up for searching during the sumbitch. Gonna be killer. This is a cartoon I have to watch twice, like The Wire in order to full grasp the true awesomeness of each ep.

So ... episode one, viewing one: SPLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGE!!!!!!!

For Apex:

Hunter Gathers: Good lord, son, there should be a mandatory retirement age for strippers.
Brock: Did you see I got cornered by Robin last night? I almost had to chew off my own arm to get away.
Hunter Gathers: Ohh! That poor woman has the saddest tits. Damn depressing!
Brock: They're, like, The Notebook sad.
Hunter Gathers: Her tits are like "coming home from school and finding out that your old man ran over your cat" sad.
Brock: Mournful. She has mournful tits. They're like two suicide notes stuffed in a glitter bra.
Hunter Gathers: Those things are like a little kid with progeria cracking all his ribs trying to catch a Nerf ball. Just sad. Damn it, she has gloomy tits!
Brock: It's like she put a dollar's worth of change into some old socks and then taped them to her chest.
Hunter Gathers: I want to build two little caskets and give her tits a tasteful, dignified funeral.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-venture-brothers-renewed-for-two-more-seasons,53476/

QuoteAdult Swim's The Venture Brothers remains one of the most consistent—and consistently popular—shows in an often hit-or-miss programming block, so it's probably no surprise that they'd want to keep it around: Co-creator Jackson Publick has announced via his blog (http://jacksonpublick.livejournal.com/30750.html) that he's just signed a contract to produce at least two more seasons of the show about super-scientists, super-villains, and their super-complex interfamily dynamics, with production on the fifth to begin in June. He also dropped the tidbit that the contract includes a long-form, 60 to 90-minute Venture Bros. special, adding, "Don't ask me when we'll make it, what it's going to be about, or whether it'll be on TV or direct-to-DVD, because we don't have a clue yet." So, everyone go ask him that and he'll be forced to figure it out sooner. In the meantime, Publick also revealed that he and co-writer Doc Hammer have been quietly prepping an 11-minute special he describes as "a sort of light-hearted, one-off little aperitif" that should debut later this summer.

It's back...IT'S BACK.  This definitely needs a second watch but here's some of my initial observations.

Spoilers and shit:

Glad to see Brock back in a major role.  And the return of the Brock Samson Eye Twitch of Rage.

One thing that did catch my eye was the sports headline on Gary's paper: "SWING HEIL! CUBS BLITZ METS IN 7-0 HOLOCAUST"

The Monarch's weird elation at finding a deck of cards in the wall.

The Captain's sticking around and he's back on that sweet, sweet tranq juice.

The dickhead guy who bullies Brown Recluse is the alter ego of Stars & Garters, right?

"We're trapped in an elevator with the devil! Just like that movie, Devil!"

"They laughed at my name again"

"Killinger, Killinger, Killinger!"  "He's not Beetlejuice for god's sake!"

Do not fuck with H.E.L.P.E.R.

"They laughed at my name again"

"Killinger, Killinger, Killinger!"  "He's not Beetlejuice for god's sake!"

Do not fuck with H.E.L.P.E.R.

I know that dickhead is a Flash Thompson analogue, but I wondered the same thing. Also: Night Dick.

*snickers*

Also, upon rewatch, the second guy at the Guild meeting who stands up and yells "AND MORE PEOPLE OF COLOR" who is dressed a baseball player with the bowl haircut has to be called "Purple Rose", no?

It's back...IT'S BACK.  This definitely needs a second watch but here's some of my initial observations.

Spoilers and shit:

Glad to see Brock back in a major role.  And the return of the Brock Samson Eye Twitch of Rage.

One thing that did catch my eye was the sports headline on Gary's paper: "SWING HEIL! CUBS BLITZ METS IN 7-0 HOLOCAUST"

The Monarch's weird elation at finding a deck of cards in the wall.

The Captain's sticking around and he's back on that sweet, sweet tranq juice.

Also, new theory that will probably be totally wrong: Wide Whale is somehow related to Dr. Dugong, who was murdered by the Monarch back in Season 3, and thus the animosity.

I hope to god you are all still watching this.  The Doom! Factory may be my new favorite Super Villain Group ever.

I hadn't even realized VB had started a new season until I saw this post and was delighted to find that my DVR was still set to record any new episodes of The Venture Bros. that showed up. So I watched the first 3 of this season and was not disappointed. Anything that goes deep on the Guild of Calamitous Intent and these character's pasts is gold to me, and that's basically what this season has started out with.
