Title: Just Cause 2
Post by: Kermit IV on March 20, 2010, 11:15:45 AM
I bought the first one for $5 and only played with it for an hour or so, but really liked where they were going with it.  There's a half-hour demo of Just Cause 2 in the Marketplace right now that is steak balls.

I seemed to remember not liking the first one all that much, but it was also 2 years ago so I might have it wrong. I have a gift card for a few bucks at Gamestop so I'll go buy it again and try it out.

Or just download the demo for the superior sequel for free.

I was playing the demo the other day.  That game is beyond ridiculous...and absolutely awesome.  Stealing a motorcycle, driving it off a cliff, jumping off the bike and free-falling until you're about 10 feet from the ground before pulling your parachute and then landing on another motorcycle is just badass.

Is anyone (other than definitely Yeti) picking this up today?  K-Mart, for whatever reason, has it for $44.99 (http://kmart.shoplocal.com/kmart/Default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&storeid=2421374&rapid=851774&pagenumber=6&listingid=-2087672635).

I'm not sure if I'm picking it up. I played the demo last night and I enjoyed it. I wasn't really sure what I was doing. I just was supposed to blow shit up? I'm not sure. Regardless, I went to the bottom of the map, found a tank and blew the shit out of a base. It was fun. I just have too many unfinished games that I should consider finishing. (I didn't find Just Cause 1 at GameStop the other day like I said I would)

I don't think plot is a major concern in this game.  I picked it up at lunch.  I'll likely give a very tired report later tonight or tomorrow.

It's awesome.  Get it.  The world is ENORMOUS (I think they said something like 400 square miles), and there are tons of things to do.  I've barely scratched the surface.  Though, I did shoot a grappling hook at two different dudes so they slammed together and both died.

Check Kmart and save yourself $15.  Oh, I also jumped out of a helicopter and through the roof of a skyway between two towers to save some dude caught in the crossfire of a gunfight.  The game STARTS with you jumping out of a plane and having to catch up to a dead dude who just fell out of the plane.  I also pulled a statue down onto a truck, which blew up and killed a bunch of guys, including one who was shooting a grenade launcher at me.

Buy two copies.

This game is absolutely ridiculous...ly awesome.  The dialog is awful, the accents are borderline offensive, and it's like the video game version of all the coolest, most UNREALISTIC action movies you've ever seen.  It's fun as hell.

Last night, I ejected just before I flew a plane into the side of a missile that was being launched into orbit (Why?  Not sure.  Doesn't matter.).  The ensuing explosion was incredible.  Also, slingshotting yourself around with the parachute + grappling hook shouldn't be as fun as it is.

I think I read about that mission.  This game is so over-the-top, it's incredible.  The only problem I'm having so far is that the controls for the vehicles can be really messed up at times, particularly when driving.  If you go off-road at all, those things have absolutely no control.  Also, it would be nice if the planes could control pitch/yaw/roll with both analogs instead of just the left one.  And I agree about the parachute/grappling hook.  It makes it a whole lot easier to travel around when you need to get somewhere without roads.

Yes, the planes are a nightmare to fly so far.  That's why I had to ram it into the missile instead of just shooting it down.

I think it'll be really cool once I actually figure out how to control those things better.  I just flew over a military base and tried to crash the plane into the fuel depot.  I aimed it the best I could, jumped out on top, started shooting as I was falling to the ground and then bailed out at the last second...my plane missed the fuel canisters by about 15 feet.

I just flew a helicopter to a night club floating in the sky, killed some people, and then took off in a plane on a mini-runway at the back.  This game kicks ass.

Hover a helicopter over them and just jump out.  It's amazing.

I like that if you are driving 80 mph head on into another motorcycle and bail at the last second, you see the fiery wreck below as the explosion takes out everything on the road.  It's like you're playing a Michael Bay movie, but it doesn't suck.

I've only done two of the Stronghold missions and then the Agency missions you have to do at the beginning.  I've just been going around blowing shit up.

Also, I hope they keep track of stats in this game as much as they did for the demo:

QuotePlayers from around the world are eagerly awaiting the release of Just Cause 2. We know this because Square Enix has revealed that the game's playable demo has been downloaded over 2 million times since the demo became available on the 4th of March.

Some other interesting stats about the demo that you might like to know: "In that time, players have driven a distance equivalent to a trip from the earth to the moon and back four times; Panau Island has lost almost 30 million of its population (with approximately 2.5 million headshots, almost a million drivers hurled from hijacked vehicles and 27,000 PiƱata kills); and players have BASE jumped the equivalent of a freefall through the Earth's core, pole-to-pole, twice."

I'd definitely prefer ramming it in there. You fucks are going to make me go buy this. I hate you both

There's a forkjoke to be made there, but I'm not going to be the one to make it.

This game sounds awesome. Is there a port for the Sega Genesis?

I decided to fly a plane as high as you can go in this game and then jump out.  The first time I did it, I just free fell straight down and it took 3 minutes to hit the ground.  This time I pulled the parachute right away.  I've been falling for 13 minutes and I'm just now about to pass the clouds...

ETA: It takes 47 minutes to parachute from the highest point in the sky down into the water.  That was a fun.
