Title: Treyarch announces Call of Duty: Black Ops/EA and DICE working on new MoH
Post by: Powdered Toast Man on May 13, 2010, 11:49:54 AM
Some details came out about it today on GameSpy.  The game is confirmed to be set during the Cold War with the majority of the conflicts taking place in Vietnam.  Sorry for no links...game sites blocked at work.

A new Medal of Honor is set out for an October release.  Looks pretty awesome so far.  DICE is working on the multiplayer and they're the guys who did the Battlefield Bad Company 1 and 2 multiplayer games.  I'm looking forward to this one.

A game is coming out soon about shooting stuff in olden times with war stuff going on??????!!!!!!!!!????  NO way gamer bro.  Never saw this one coming.
I'll tell you what, though, I'm more jazzed up about the upcoming CR.ujORd feating 4th player shooting angles and the updated r4wWhOd software.  They say you can totally tell the difference between this game and the other 4,000 ones that are exactly the same but with just different acronyms on the cover.  As long as there are Weebs' out there to buy them, these gooks will just keep churning them out.

Medal of Honor has a Public Beta set up for June 21, but if you are a Battlefield Bad Company 2 VIP (whatever that might be) and have preordered Medal of Honor, you can join the beta today.

I'm definitely roking the beta for this one.  The original Battlefield's beta was a lot of fun.

Edited to add:  almost 11 minutes of multiplayer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oKePnEmGlA&feature=youtube_gdata).

Anyone else besides IAN and I getting this next week? I'm going PS3 on this one, as well as CoD.

I think I'll be getting MOH and CoD on the PS3.  I have 126 dollars on the Edge card, so they'll both be free.

I have around 45-50 sitting in Best Buy certificates I need to print off so I'm only out a few bucks. I'm kind of hoping they're doing something like what they did on Halo: Reach, which is offer a $20 gift card with the purchase of it. It will be nice to go towards Fallout: The New Boner.

IGN ripped MoH a new one (6/10).  There's is the only terrible review I've read so far.  Most reviews I've read have been fairly positive.  The running themes in reviews:

IGN says they felt the single player didn't quite do it for them.  That's because if it's not a blockbuster motion picture in a campaign or Call of Duty in multiplayer they rip it to shreds.  I've watched some good video of the single player and everything I've seen made me think completely differently from IGN.  I preordered it, so I'm in regardless, but I don't think 6 will do it justice.

Couldn't you have typed this about 10 minutes earlier before I left for lunch and bought it?

Awesome. I played some of the single player last night, but none of the multiplayer. I figured I'd get that out of the way before I jump into the multiplayer. Chances are, I can probably finish it tonight. It's pretty fun so far. They had a mission where you drove around in ATVs (Snowmobiles in CoD, ATVs in Battlefield 2). That's becoming a trend apparently. I've been able to direct a lot of airstrikes. That's always nice. I think the last mission I did I was in an Apache mowing shit down.

One complaint that I do have is that your teammates are a little frustrating. They don't seem to advance like they should sometimes. I had one time where I entered a building that was a dead end and a teammate stood at the door and didn't move. The only way to move him was to shoot and kill him to have the mission restart at a checkpoint.

I might be about halfway through the campaign for MOH, but so far it's pretty outstanding.

The campaign was pretty short. It was pretty good. I found it to be decent. However, I have grown to love the multiplayer. It's a nice hybrid of CoD and Battlefield. One thing I've learned is that there are a shitload of bottlenecks and you can really pick people off on them. Kunar Base is probably my best map. I went 35-1 one match. 20-6 is a fairly common score for me right now. My main complaint is that grenades (explosives in general) have about a 2 foot blast radius.

Damn, I'm not that good.  I might get closer to 12-8 or something.  I feel like I can never get kills with my mortar strike or a grenade.  I feel like the sniping is out of control, but that's pretty much any FPS.  I like the M4.  That's my bread and butter.

Yea. I'm like a level 11 with my Rifleman class. I mainly do the defensive support actions. They net you more points usually. There are a few times where the Offensive one will work but only if you have their entire team contained in a small spot. I think I once got a triple kill with a Rocket Strike, but that's it. I won't even touch the mortar since you give up a UAV, which I love because I'm always checking the radar.

I'll start using the defensive ones more often.  I like how some of them are damage boosts.

Because I think Yeti's asked me about this for every game I try to pimp:

Multiplayer Online Split-Screen Support

-Let's get started with what I believe is the most unknown, yet confirmed, aspect to Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer – the online split-screen support we've re-introduced to the franchise!

The Facts:

-You can connect a second controller and bring a guest online (i.e. "JD_2020" & "JD_2020(1)").
-Guests can rank up, earn unlocks, etc – all guest progress goes away once signed out.

Guests online in split screen in Black Ops.  Also, you can chose to play with groups of players geographically in proximity to you so that lag isn't a problem.  Treyarch is doing it right, it seems.

2 main complaints about MOH: grenades have about a 2 foot blast radius. And something is really fucked up with getting killed. You start getting shot and run to a corner. You can still be getting shot 2-4 steps past the corner and die around the corner. Also, a guy will come around a corner and his gun is not facing you but he start shooting and you die

I know.  I started playing Saturday morning and was doing well.  My skill number was rising and I was going positive in the kills.  I thought maybe I turned a corner.  I popped in the game in the afternoon for a few minutes and got sniped every goddamn time I spawned.  It was really aggravating.  I will download the free DLC tomorrow night, but I doubt I'll buy the $10 DLC.

Black Ops is a week away.  Best.  Game.  Evar.

Yeah, I think I'm getting to the point where I'm going to sell MOH; it kind of sucks.

I'll hold onto mine because I love the campaign and I'll probably play through it a few more times.  I never played Frontline on it's original format, so I'll try that, too.  Not many multiplayer games will push the Call of Duty games.

I'm contemplating doing this in a few weeks. The multiplayer is frustrating at times, but I still perform well. I mean, I'm usually near the top of the leaderboards when I play but I'm not a sniper so I'm not as high up there (more on the global ones) as I could be as this is a game that if you're a sniper you can completely dominate. It just doesn't have the allure that CoD has. I know in 8 days I'll be playing the shit out of it.
