Title: Theodore
Post by: Internet Apex on July 27, 2010, 08:56:04 PM
So long, my good friend. Another fine outing this evening. If this were Wrigley you'd be getting a standing ovation. Rest assured, you're getting one none the less.

IN MY PANTS!

He'll get one next time he pitches at Wrigley and more than likely while he's mowing down hapless Cub hitters. It'll be so Mark DeRosa.

Closing line from today's Chicago Sun-Times story on Ted Lilly:

''He's not afraid of anything,'' the scout said. ''The guy's got huge balls.''

Yesterday Mrs. IAN told me while watching the game:  "Who's that guy?  He looks scary.  Like a serial killer."  Laughed.  Outly.  Louded.

Fair warning: If Antti Niemi wins his arbitration hearing tomorrow, this thread will be hijacked for the Hawks' new goalie shortly thereafter.

He came off the DL last weekend.

He was back (uninjured) for a while, but was in the minors because he was struggling with his command a bit.

No. If the Cubs get Happ, he'll go 10-0 down the stretch to lead the Cubs rise from the dead into the World Series, and I'll petition the mayor of my town and the mayor of the neighboring town to rename my street in Happ's honor, and I'll go into the neighboring town and get myself politely shitfaced at this neighborhood restaurant (http://thehappinn.com/).

No TJ, it was determined over at the shoutbox that any competent Cub is at PEAK TRADE VALUE and must be traded for prospects to rebuild for 2012. In the abstract.

I'm not sure what his problem is but I've been consistently disappointed in 90 percent of his work since Beats, Rhymes and Life. I doubt if it's age though. I guess he just got rich and weird. Happens.

Roy Oswalt officially has accepted his proposed trade (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5420095) to the Philadelphia Phillies.

After considering his options and speaking with friends familiar with the Phillies' situation, including former teammate Brad Lidge, the Houston Astros' staff ace waived his no-trade clause Thursday in order to be dealt for left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, the Phillies said in announcing the trade.

The two guys everyone assumed were ghost are probably going to stay. Classic Hendry.

At this point, if they keep Ted, do they just get him an extension? Is that out of the question? He seems like one of those guys that will pitch until he's 45.

This is so exciting!  The Cubs traded Lilly and Theriot for a younger version of Theriot who can't steal bases!  It's not quite as good as the time they robbed the Dodgers of Izturis, but it's still a great day for the Cubs!

It's possible that he doesn't run the bases with his helmet put on backwards, which makes him a step up.

Also -- he may be too tall to act a a stand-in for Frodo Baggins.

He has the possibility of being a capable, cheap second baseman for a few years.  It's not all that exciting, but above-mediocre players who make league minimum are useful.  Considering what the returns were for Oswalt and Haren, Hendry did all right here.

He's from Sikeston, MO, home of Lambert's Cafe.  It's got throwed rolls, y'all.  It's freakin' awesome.  I've eaten there on numerous occasions.

So from my limited googlings of B. Lake Dewitt, it looks like he's much younger and cheaper than Theriot, but doesn't have a lot more power and isn't great defensively. In short, meh. Any reason why I should change my mind?

He has the possibility of being a capable, cheap second baseman for a few years.  It's not all that exciting, but above-mediocre players who make league minimum are useful.  Considering what the returns were for Oswalt and Haren, Hendry did all right here.

He's from Sikeston, MO, home of Lambert's Cafe.  It's got throwed rolls, y'all.  It's freakin' awesome.  I've eaten there on numerous occasions.

Dewitt doesn't seem like anything special really...

except for the fact that he gets PAID to play BASEBALL!  Come ON!  That's pretty cool!

Been drinking tonight?

I don't drink.  You, of all people, should know that.

Nothin' odd about eating at such a fine establishment.  I've also eaten at the one in Gulf Shores.  It's not as good.  Probably because it's being served by Alabama people.

I've been to that one, too.  Those Alabama tards throw like Theriots.

Anybody know what a Brett Wallach or Kyle Smit is?  I'm meh on Blake DeWitt.  He seems like a younger Theriot,  but he's not actually Theriot, so I don't mind.  :MikeFontenotSadFace:

He doesn't suck at baseball.

Therefore, he's not a Theriot of any age.

The only reason I can think of that you would change your mind is that you're nothing but a fickle mush-head.

Alright, I've changed my mushmind. Dewitt is not Theriot and he's hitting .750. So, huzzah!

The huzzah left me burnt, broken, and hungover. It was great

Wallach might have a shot.  Smit is ... I'll let someone else finish that thought.

...a thinner version of Dave Smith circa 1991 with a less ridiculous suntan.

Strong Dodger debut for Theodore.  He even hit 89 mph in this totally listenable highlight clip. (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?c_id=mlb&content_id=10591963&query=game_pk%3D265404)
