Title: Butthurt
Post by: World's #1 Astros Fan on March 02, 2013, 07:39:20 AM
I thought of starting this thread 2 months ago when I read this story  (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/25/sports/football/dolphins-and-chiefs-look-back-on-a-muddy-little-christmas-in-1971.html?_r=0) and couldn't believe what a humorless cunt Jan Stenerud is, but never got around to it posting this until now.  I figured this shit-for-brains site could use a repository for all pro athlete butthurt

QuoteEd Podolak loves this time of year. Invariably, he is asked about his momentous game on Dec. 25, 1971, when he amassed 350 total yards, still a postseason record, even though his Kansas City Chiefs lost in double overtime to the Miami Dolphins, 27-24, in the longest contest in N.F.L. history.

"I never get tired of talking about it," he said last week.

For another former Chief, the Hall of Fame kicker Jan Stenerud, the 1971 divisional playoff game is not a cherished memory.

"Do you want to talk about my mother's funeral, too?" Stenerud said recently when asked about the defeat. He hung up the phone, ending a brief interview.

Even though this bitch is lucky to be in the same Hall of Fame that excludes Ray Guy, the fact that he's in denotes he had a helluva a career.  And yet he can't laugh about his role in this epic game?  That's major, 4 decade asshurt right there.

For Huey (http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/04/whats-the-deal-with-donald-trump/309261/?single_page=true):

QuoteMost multibillionaires have better things to do than spend time on Twitter arguing the finer points of bankruptcy law. But Donald Trump is not your typical billionaire. He is the Paris Hilton of the business world: famous for being rich and famous. And he has proved again and again that he will go to extraordinary lengths to buff the public perception that he is a billionaire many times over and, despite what you may or may not think, one of the savviest businessmen around.

When Timothy L. O'Brien—then a staff writer at The New York Times—had the temerity to report in the paper of record, on October 23, 2005 (and in his book TrumpNation, published days later), that "three people with direct knowledge of Donald's finances" had told him Trump was worth "somewhere between $150 million and $250 million," Trump was incensed, and a few months later filed suit. "By anyone's standards, this still qualified Donald as comfortably wealthy," O'Brien continued in the article, "but none of these people thought that he was remotely close to being a billionaire." Outrageous, countered Trump. "You can go ahead and speak to guys who have 400‑pound wives at home who are jealous of me, but the guys who really know me know I'm a great builder," he told O'Brien.

...

This injustice could not stand. In January 2006, Trump sued O'Brien and his book publisher—but not The Times—for defamation in a Camden, New Jersey, court. Trump wanted $5 billion in damages. In July 2009, Superior Court Judge Michele M. Fox dismissed the case, arguing that Trump had not come up with "clear and convincing evidence to establish malice." Trump appealed, and in September 2011, he lost again after the court found no evidence of "actual malice" on O'Brien's part...

...

He also told me he was ready to sue the comedian Bill Maher, who claimed on The Tonight Show in January that Trump was the product of the union of a human mother and an orangutan father. Maher offered $5 million to Trump for proof that this was not true. Trump then sent Maher a copy of his birth certificate, apparently without irony. But he had not heard from Maher or received the reward, which he said he would split among five charities. "He has not responded, and the reason he hasn't responded is his lawyers probably tell him, 'You've got yourself a problem,' " Trump explained. "But if he doesn't pay, I will bring a lawsuit." (He made good on his word, filing a suit against Maher on February 4, demanding the $5 million. Maher later said, on his show, "Donald Trump must learn two things—what a joke is, and what a contract is.")

Also:

QuoteTrump's fascination with golf courses may stem in part from his personal interest in playing the game. He is, by all accounts, a terrific golfer. "I've won many club championships," Trump told me. "And I was always the best athlete. But I've won many a club championship. It's something that people don't know unless they are with me and have played with me." Jimmy Lee, the über‑banker at JPMorgan Chase, had played with Trump recently at one of his New York–area golf clubs. Trump wanted me to call Lee and ask him about his golf game. Trump "is more than legit," Lee said. "He shot a 67 on his own ball, with me." He said there were no, shall we say, "preferred lies," either.

But that's reportedly rare for Trump, according to others who have played golf with him. "He is the most rampant cheater," one claimed. "This will give you an insight into Donald: He's so overt in his cheating that to virtually everybody I know that plays golf with him, including myself, it's part of his personality, in a way, on the golf course. For instance, he never plays for money, because I don't think he would ever cheat the way he does on the golf course if he played for money, so he won't make financial bets. For him it's just all about winning. And his cheating is so obvious that I think he is self-aware that a part of the expectation that people have of his personality on the golf course is that he does it. And we always have fun watching how he does it." He said he had seen Trump move the ball "from the woods into the middle of the fairway" and, on an elevated green, "kick another guy's ball about 15 more feet from the pin—by the way, in front of me." Nobody calls Trump on it, he said, because, well, it's just part of the theatrics of being with Trump. (Trump himself disputed all this: "It just sounds like it's coming from people I beat, and beat badly.")

The F-22 can only reach Mach 2.25, so that's impressive.  Maybe we should try strapping missiles onto Cessnas.

Trump wouldnt be caught dead in a Cessna.  The Citation is a Gulfstream business jet and its top speed does appear to be mach 0.92. The Donald apparently likes to multiply numbers by 10 [or 100 or..]

EDITED TO ADD-- Forgot that Cessna owns Gulfstream, so I guess he would be caught dead in one.

To be fair, he's apparently not really a "numbers guy":

QuoteTrump is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, but as parts of the two-day, December 2007 deposition he gave in the O'Brien lawsuit make clear, his preoccupation with his retail image sometimes crowds out conventional financial thinking when it comes to calculating his net worth. In the deposition, Trump showed little or no understanding of the concept of "net present value," the idea that because of the time value of money, something that is expected to be worth $100 in the future is worth less than $100 today. The concept is essential to calculating what a business is worth. The subject came up in a discussion of how Trump valued his golf courses. After conceding that he was only "modestly" familiar with the idea of net present value, he said it had something to do with "the value of the land currently after debt," which sounds more like a definition of the equity value of an asset, rather than its net present value. His methods of valuing assets are more creative than precise, although Trump has his own internal logic for them. For instance, in 2005, he was paid $400,000 for a speech at the Learning Annex, but bragged on Larry King Live that his pay was actually more than $1 million because, as he explained in his deposition, the speech was promoted in billboard, newspaper, radio, and TV ads around New York City, creating extra value for his brand.

"So when you say publicly you got paid more than $1 million, you're including in that sum the promotional expenses they pay?," Trump was asked during his deposition.

"Oh, absolutely, yes," he replied. "That has a great value. It has a great value to me."

He said in the deposition that he tries to be "truthful" in discussing his net worth, but the transcript reveals that he views the truth, in these matters, to be a function of emotion as much as hard science. "My net worth fluctuates, and it goes up and down with markets and with attitudes and with feelings—even my own feelings—but I try." He's no different than "a politician running for office," he said. "You always put the best foot forward. So you don't want to say negative things."

O'Brien's lawyers at Debevoise & Plimpton—among them Mary Jo White, who would become Obama's 2013 nominee to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission—probed further into the idea that Trump's net worth changes with his mood. "Yes, even my own feelings, as to where the world is, where the world is going—and that can change rapidly from day to day," Trump said. "You have a September 11, and you don't feel so good about yourself and you don't feel so good about the world and you don't feel so good about New York City. Then you have a year later, and the city is as hot as a pistol. Even months after that, it was a different feeling. So yeah, even my own feelings affects my value to myself." He said it all depends on when the question is asked.

You're right that Trump would be caught dead in one.  Cessna does not own Gulfstream, that would be General Dynamics.  The Citation jets (the original name was the FanJet 500) are unrelated to Gulfstream's offerings and were developed by Cessna internally and independently.  #aviationnerd

Edited to Add: Cessna itself was briefly owned by General Dynamics, but GD sold it to Textron in the early '90s before buying Gulfstream in the late '90s.  Citations predated both transactions.

This is rich: (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-wrigley-renovation-0406-20130406,0,3870033.story)

Quote"Increasing encroachment of the Chicago Cubs on the residential and business community interests negatively impacts the interests of residents and voters," the letter states.

"Increasing encroachment."  How long has the ballpark been there?  It's not like the Cubs just moved to the neighborhood from Decatur.  If it's so unbearable, FUCKING MOVE!

QuoteBut in a sign of just how hard it will be for Tunney to please everyone, residents began circulating an online petition Friday critical of a parking garage in the congested neighborhood, saying bicycles and public transportation should be promoted instead.

"Don't turn Lakeview into a parking lot," stated the petition, signed by more than 130 people as of early Friday evening. "Lakeview is a vibrant community that doesn't need more traffic and pollution. Adding more parking for Wrigley Field will only bring more cars to our neighborhood and make traffic even more unbearable."

Boo hoo.  Again: Move away if it's that bad.  The Cubs don't really owe you shit.

Sully's a bitter old dick who's more interested in reminding us that he's a bitter old dick than actually giving us interesting Cubs coverage.

You believe that such a thing exists. I do not. Paul probably knows one way or the other but is there a colleague of his that's beating him to the interesting nuggetronics? I know Sully personally and wouldn't say he's any more of a bitter old dick, than anybody who posts here. /pro-Sully butthurt

Bruce Miles. He actually seems to enjoy his job and has some intellectual curiosity about the game he covers. And who cares what Sully or anyone else is like in person? Chuck's great in person. Internet personalities are way more important.

Being a bitter old dick is great for message boards. If I'm going to PAY A JOURNALIST'S CELERY I expect a little more.

You just like Bruce because he posts in the Epstink group on Facebook.

Maybe both, I got bored reading it.

Anyway, big props to Ian for being good at Coors Field back in 2008.

Sayonara, shithead.

Does he still get $2 Million?

I assume not.

Apparently there's a "loyalty clause" in his contract that he violated.

I'm guessing they still have to pay him.

Supposedly they're negotiating an out for some salary relief.  Didn't get much for Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu, but, what the hell.  At least we were treated to a pretty impressive online self-destruction.

By the way, Iowa played (http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=1B&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=456655) this afternoon before his suspension took.  The new face of the franchise was in the lineup, playing first base and hitting eighth, the meat of an All-Star sandwich between Dave Sappelt and Brent Li'lbitch.  Stewart started the day off with two prompt strikeouts but later drew a walk and, how about that, a solo homer, his fifth, in the eighth.  All five of those homers have come in June, thanks in part to a three-homer day on June 8, and he's hitting .233/.324/.800 this month (in only 30 AB).  Overall he's still sporting an abysmal .168/.286/.372 with Iowa.  Just when he might finally be finding his swing, he opens his big twatter.  How do Cody Ransom's balls taste, indeed.

I would assume so, too, barring some specially-tailored language in his contract.

More from the Uniform Player's Contract...

QuoteTERMINATION

...

By Club

7.(b) The Club may terminate this contract upon written notice to the Player (but only after requesting and obtaining waivers of this contract from all other Major League Clubs) if the Player shall at any time:

(1) fail, refuse or neglect to conform his personal conduct to the standards of good citizenship and good sportsmanship or to keep himself in first-class physical condition or to obey the Club's training rules; or

(2) fail, in the opinion of the Club's management, to exhibit sufficient skill or competitive ability to qualify or continue as a member of the Club's team; or

(3) fail, refuse or neglect to render his services hereunder or in any other manner materially breach this contract.

7.(c) If this contract is terminated by the Club, the Player shall be enti- tled to termination pay under the circumstances and in the amounts set forth in Article IX of the Basic Agreement. In addition, the Player shall be entitled to receive an amount equal to the reasonable traveling expenses of the Player, including first-class jet air fare and meals en route, to his home city.

The "loyalty clause" is pretty vaguely worded, but it's also a standard part of all player contracts.

If mouthing off on Twitter alone were grounds enough to totally void a contract, I feel like we'd see MLB contracts voided left and right. Who would pay money to the Milton Bradleys of the world if it were that easy?

Hey Phil Esposito, why so butthurt (http://deadspin.com/phil-esposito-on-the-stanley-cup-final-doesnt-mean-s-512887130)?

Quote"You want to know the truth," said Esposito, the fifth-leading goal scorer in hockey history. "This series doesn't mean s*** to me.

Because Bostink is terrible.

Like William Wadsworth Wirtz terrible...

QuoteIt is not so harsh for Tony Esposito, now, that the ownership and management of the Blackhawks changed after the death of owner Bill Wirtz. He has been welcomed back, will be in the building Wednesday night for Game 1 of the final, feels like he's a part of something special.

"For several years, it wasn't this way," said 70-year-old Tony. "I don't know why, but the whole organization was mired in mud. They couldn't get anything going. Things were bad, I mean really bad.

"There was no connection with the past, the old players. It's completely different now. They're bringing me in for things all the time. I feel like a part of something."

He feels that way. His brother does not.

Tony Esposito doesn't understand why Phil isn't more a part of popular Bruins history, why he's kept at arms length by management and ownership.

"Tony works for them now," said Phil. "Rocky Wirtz and those guys, they have treated my brother like gold. Ever since Bob Pulford got out of there and Billy Wirtz passed -- and I liked Billy Wirtz -- they took care of Tony like they should have taken care of him forever."

Said Tony: "Phil rarely gets invited to anything from the Bruins. He's like an outcast. You think of what he did for them. He should be part of everything they do. I don't know why there's no relationship there, but there's no relationship there."

Okay, so his butthurt at Boston is understandable.  But why so butthurt at the Hawks?  They sent him to a team with Bobby Orr where he was able to capture 2 Stanley Cups and establish himself as the premier scorer in the league. If anyone should be butthurt, it's Hawks fans.

He did the 60s version of Ian Stewart, walking up to GM Tommy Ivan and telling him that the Hawks would never win a title as long as he and Billy Reay were running things. He and Ken Hodge were gone, and Pit Martin was here in very short order.

I don't know where to post this and I don't want to start a new thread, so this will do because I am butthurt  by this and I don't want to start a new thread.  In this morning's Chronicle I read that in Afghanistan a doctor was stoned to death for examining a female patient without a female chaperone in the room and a 14 year old boy selling coffee was beheaded for reusing to serve a Taliban.  I wondered why we are even bothering in that uncivilized part of the world?  Then, in the same paper I read that a 23 year old was shot to death in North Oakland on the evening of his graduation when he got out of his car to exchange information with the driver of the car that had just rear-ended him.  Who are we to talk about bringing civilization to the rest of the world?

My Mother-in-Law works at a hospital in Downtown Oakland (and up until recently lived in Emeryville.)

She is frequently telling us the news from that neck of the woods (including a recent story about a paramedic who was killed by 4 kids in broad daylight) and for the life of me I cannot understand what goes on there.

I'm sure Oakland isn't unique to horrible displays of humanity (for God's sake they killed an innocent elk here in Boulder) but it sure seems like good reason to continue to insist that she come here to visit rather than taking the family there.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to book flights for us to come to the safe haven of Chicago this summer.

He claims the people who told him to eat shit didn't read the original description (http://www.cubbytees.com/ShirtPieces/BS--Original_Description.jpg), allthough, I'm not too sure he's making his case any stronger:

A couple of years ago my son and I were leaving ATT Park (or whatever its name was that year) after watching the Cubs predictably lose to the Giants.  I expressed the opinion that beating the Cubs was not necessarily an indicator that the Giants were a good team (although they were).  We were overheard by a Giants' fan who offered to physically demonstrate how superior he was to a gray haired, Oleg sized Cubs' fan.  Being out numbered by about 200 to 2 my son and I chose discretion over valor and pretended not to notice him.  My son has made it clear that he will no longer go to Giants' games with me if I wear a Cubs' hat or shirt.

Sweet, glorious butthurt from Pats fans who can't figure out the difference between the official NFL rulebook and one particular news story about NFL rules... (http://boston.barstoolsports.com/random-thoughts/nfl-changed-the-push-rule-after-they-called-it/)

QuoteIf anyone still wants to try an argue that the Push Rule call against Chris Jones in overtime was legit, first to have to explain this.  First, all the credit to Tom E Curran of Comcast Sports NE (full disclosure: I work with him on Patriots Pregame Live) for being the Woodward and Bernstein who revealed this massive cover up by the NFL.  Curran looked up the now infamous Rule 913 as soon as Belichick mentioned Jones was in fact on the line of scrimmage, so the rule was not applicable.  And he took this screen cap:

(CLICK HERE FOR THE GOOGLE CACHED PAGE WHICH CLEARLY SHOWS THE REAL RULE) (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000237712/article/new-nfl-rules-overloading-line-restriction-will-protect-linemen)

Belichick made his comments at his post game presser at around 5 o'clock.  In the ensuing confusion, the NFL's official site made an edit on a post about the rule that was first posted a month and a half ago:

And like magic, the part about players not on the line of scrimmage at the snap was mysteriously gone:

So Belichick was right.  Chris Jones was right.  And the NFL's own rule was right, until two hours after the refs bungled the call, handed a key divisional game to the Jets, and then sent their cyber goon squad in to clean up the crime scene.  It's a conspiracy, pure and simple.  And if they think this ends here, they are out of their frigging minds.  This story will not die.  They cost a championship contender a game and worse, covered it up.  Shit like this brought a US president down, God knows an NFL commissioner can't be allowed to get away with this.  How does a rule get changed after it's been enforced.  How is it that there have been 400 FGs & PATs in football and this is the first time anyone's ever heard this called?  What did Goodell know and when did he know it?  I want answers and I want them now. Not tomorrow.  Not after breakfast.  Now.  PushRuleGate is not going away any time soon.

Patriots fans take abuse all the time for claiming that the league targets them because they're sick of the Patriots winning all the time.  But this just proves something I've always said.  Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone's not actually out to get you.  @JerryThornton1

Patriots fans take abuse all the time for claiming that the league targets them because they're sick of the Patriots winning all the time.  But this just proves something I've always said.  Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone's not actually out to get you.  @JerryThornton1

I'd like to try an argue.  What's one taste like?

Conan invades LinkedIn. (http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20131020183000-288872202-hello-linkedin?trk=mp-reader-card)  He does so very seriously.

QuoteGreetings, fellow titans of business! Conan O'Brien here, not Cheng-Gong, the young Chinese boy normally in charge of my social media. Let me begin by saying it's a true honor to be blogging on the internet—a privilege reserved only for Earth's best and brightest one billion people. It's no secret that we as a species are running dangerously low on blogs, so like any leader, I'm doing my part. Plus, it feels good to be on LinkedIn among my peers – attractive, fabulously successful plutocrats who laugh at their own jokes. Like you, I pride myself on joining only the most exclusive, cutting-edge social networks. So effective today...adios, Ashley Madison.

Some Very Important "Thought Leaders" and "Social Media Mavens" and "Business Entrepreneurs" Who Are Very Important come down with a serious case of the butthurts.

QuoteThis is waste of electrons. As Conan admits, he has no idea why he is doing this. LI is not Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest to post your rants, inspirational thoughts or cat videos. Please focus your talents on funny TV sketches and great guests and leave LI to people doing business.

Quote"Thought leaders" should share novel, insightful thoughts. Conan O'Brien seems to admit that he has none, yet he nevertheless yearns to waste our time and fill an influencer spot that could have been given to many other people who have much more to say that is potentially helpful. The real joke is on LinkedIn for cheapening its brand and diluting its value.

QuoteThe best example of style-over-substance, brand-over-content, I think I've ever seen. The man has absolutely nothing to say, and yet because he is laughed at on cue for the saying of it in a recognizable format, it is apparently assumed that the nothing is worth something. My compliments to the guy who found a way to pay his bills by being a wiseass.

Even some of the supporters are kind of ... well ...

QuoteYour humility is admirable and at your (ours) age to be trying something new is brave. Truly impressive. Are your still a temporary fill in for Johnny Carson? or do you have an own show?

QuoteConan! Finally you found us! You are a true example of how business works: one day on top of the hill and down on the valley the next... please share your wisdom with us. Your true follower and believer...

Bump for former Cub hurler and current SF color man Mike Krukow (http://www.bayareasportsguy.com/cubs-giants-rain-delay-wrigley-field-grounds-crew-lollygags-mike-krukow-erupts/).

Quote from: Mike KrukowI've never been so pissed off in my entire life, at a ballgame. Watching this unfold, and seeing, in the matter of just a few minutes. And we're talking about a rainstorm that hit, that was less than 20 minutes long. And watching that grounds crew completely pee all over themselves.

"My first impression was, they're doing this in purpose. They could not possibly be this bad. They had to be doing this on purpose. I had to back off that later on in the night, but I was so frustrated. It was the most incredible thing to watch.

Krukow is right. The Cubs purposely had the grounds crew dawdle in a windy downpour in order to score an easy win in order to move to 5 1/2 games out of the coveted 4th place slot in the NL Central.

Per  Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Clara%2C_California), Santa Clara is a whopping 0.5% black.  For comparison's sake,  Naperville, IL's  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naperville,_Illinois)black population comprises 2.7% of their total population.

So you can basically count the black population of Santa Clara by hand.

QPD! Santa Clara cops threaten to stop doing their jobs (http://deadspin.com/santa-clara-cops-say-colin-kaepernick-hurt-their-feelin-1786129404) due to uppity athlete-induced butthurt.

I swaw this in the British press this morning.  Fuck Santa Clara cops.

Mind you, if Santa Clara cops stop doing their jobs, at least black people will be able to go about their daily business without fear of being gunned down in the street.

There are black people in Santa Clara?

Yes, Colin Kaepernick.

Try to keep up.

Per  Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Clara%2C_California), Santa Clara is a whopping 0.5% black.  For comparison's sake,  Naperville, IL's  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naperville,_Illinois)black population comprises 2.7% of their total population.

So you can basically count the black population of Santa Clara by hand.

With a population of 120,245 (2013 Census) that means you can count up to 601 on your hand, Alfonseca.

I didn't say "count on one hand" I said "count by hand", like personally tally all of the black folks without one of your fancy abaci or something.

Figure that there are 80 people on the A's and Giants 40-man rosters, another 12 on their coaching staffs, their 2 GMs, 106 people on the Raiders and 49ers ' Rosters, plus another 25 or so coaches combined, 30 players and coaches on the Sharks roster, and about 20 players and coaches for the Warriors. Then figure about 170 people and Cal and Stanford receiving some type of football scholarship, and 26 scholarships playing men's basketball for those two schools, plus a total of 40 coaches of football and men's basketball. Finally, the field at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am every February is 156 pros. There are more pro or top-level college athletes hanging around the area than black people in Santa Clara.

Anyway, I vote for making him wear this one. No need to burn the bullpen against Milwaukee.

Yeah, I bet Joe's thinking to himself "You want to get all butthurt when I see you pitching batting practice and give you the early hook? Next time you can play in your mess for a while!"

One other thing I noticed with the error that someone pointed out this weekend, WTF is Joe AGAIN playing slapdick Tommy at 3rd instead of Javy with Tommy at 2nd?

Just one more run and Hammel can run his 10-run game totals to 3 this yr. What are the odds he cries when he doesn't make the playoff rotation?

Javy's good, but asking him to play shortstop and third at the same time is a little much.

When your lead is larger than your magic number in early September you can fuck with the lineup a bit.
