Title: The Leftovers

Not with me in the house! /chork

Anyway, looks good. I predict it'll be a game changer. We can discuss Sunday night.

The first two episodes have hooked me in. It's extremely morose. The acting by Theroux has been very good. Overall, I wouldn't say this show has anything great about it, but it's worth an hour a week and I'd like to know what ends up happening. Solid 3/5 stars here so far. By comparison, True Detective Season 1 was 7/5.

I don't recognize this show.  Is it on the Cooking Channel?

I'm taking away half a star for last night's gruesome stoning scene. So far this show is not good enough to like and not bad enough to quit watching until something better comes along.

Ignoring Apex's post here since I just finished ep 3 last night but that was one of the finest episodes of any show I've seen in a long time. I think the True Detective shootout episode was up there for putting me on the edge of my seat - but this was something else entirely. Hard hitting shit.

So good.

I didn't think it was that gruesome. Especially because I hated that lady the most. Her face was very annoying.

But I had heard enough references to the "gruesome" incident that I expected someone to get stabbed in the belly and have their entrails devoured over the course of 15 minutes.

This show is very good. I like it a lot.

Yeah, at this point the AV Club is basically a cult of reviewers that worship Roger Ebert but can't write to save their lives.

She didn't even review the episode. If she has an issue with the whiteness of the show, it's a valid point to some degree. That's a separate article. Not an episode review.

I'm still rooting for this show to be good even though I know it's not. Sometimes it has good parts, like the Nora episode. Sometimes it's a trainwreck like last night. It's the 2013 Chicago Bears of shows.

I gave it one ep. Meh. No one is talking about it. Don't see any reason to pick it back up.

At least the 2013 Bears were worthy of a season of Sundays.

I think the show is lackluster, but I'm going to spite-relish every episode now.

I have this thing where I watch HBO on Sunday nights. Because they've given me The Wire, Deadwood, The Sopranos, GOT and True Detective, I'm willing to sit through the last couple seasons of Boardwalk Empire and whatever this Leftovers thing is. Like if the Roots make a so-so album, I'm still going to buy it and listen to it and talk about it with people. Because I don't want may favorite stuff to go away, I'm willing to do my part to keep it going.

So I'm going to keep watching The Leftovers and I'm going to say that I'm tired of the way they try to horrify me at the top of the episode with a stoning or a person trapped in a refrigerator. There's little payoff to either of those scenes story-wise. I still don't give a fuck about the GR's and the daughter's whole countenance and attitude is unchanged since the incident. So she bought her grandfather a magazine which he gave to her dad and he threw away. If there's any point to that sequence they're sure as shit not giving it away now. Why would they do that? I'm wondering if the story is actually being told from the GR's perspective. Like, there really is no point to this show. Points are stupid. TV is stupid. Why do you care? Why did you watch Lost, you dumb fat fuck? Here's a turd in a bag, we're putting on your porch every Sunday at 9 p.m. Do you like it? Liking or not liking it is stupid. Shut up.

It's been quite a year for Ann Dowd on the Home Box Offices.

That reveal/scene at the dining table. Man. That was umpteen simultaneous flavors of disturbing and heart-wrenching. I don't think I've had as visceral a reaction to seeing something on TV in -- I don't even know -- maybe ever.

Yeah that was incredible.

What a great, great show. I'm wondering if the wish was for his family to be back together. The events of the fire certainly seemed to set that in motion. Now he's gonna get a chance to rebuild? Maybe the wife is done with the GR. Maybe the whole GR is done? Seemed like it was hinting to that, anyway. Also not sure that Nora ends up leaving. I'm REALLY glad she didn't end up killing herself. I would have been so fucking upset that this actress wouldn't get the chance to continue this role. She's been the highlight of the show.

Yeah that was a goddamn amazing season.

My two cents before I dig into Internet opinions that will be better than mine: the last three scenes tied a nice little bow on the themes this show digs into so expertly.

Faith: "I don't understand what's going on." "Me neither."

Community: "What if there's nobody home?" "Then you can come over to my house."

Family: (Kevin walks in to see everyone who is important to him). "You're home."

I'd say the message is that the last one is the most important.

Here's hoping for a season 3.

It was a game changer even if the ratings didn't agree. Go fuck yourself if you didn't love all 2.9 seasons of this. Sunday will be bittersweet

I thought the finale was perfect in that it went in a totally unexpected direction (par for the course) and I thought Nora's story about where the 2% went was outstanding in that it was a pretty straightforward explanation but still punched me in the gut. All this time the show has focused on how the 98% were affected, and how impossible it would be to process the Departure, only to throw a last second curveball in making you consider an even more fucked up scenario.

If true. She may have lied, but I guess we will let the mystery be
