Title: Silicon Valley
Post by: Quality Start Machine on August 28, 2014, 03:11:49 PM
Had this one loaded up on my DVR for months, banged the whole thing out quickly.

Good characters and acting. And Martin Starr is always good at doing Martin Starr things.

The plotlines are all on an "Entourage" level of predictability though.

When the next season rolls around it'll probably sit on my DVR for months again.

Haven't watched the show itself, but I have watched this (http://valleywag.gawker.com/heres-the-homeric-dick-joke-from-the-season-finale-of-s-1584755025), which is great.

The show was, despite my early objections, excellent. You should watch it.

That was easily the finest moment of the series.

Just finished Season 2. Am I the only one watching this? Because it's pretty fucking good.

The real Silicon Valley has completely changed traffic patterns in the Bay Area.  The only time that you can avoid traffic jams in the South Bay is to restrict your driving during daylight hours to those between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.  Any other time you can add 2 hours to a trip that should take 45 minutes.  Then there was the time that I was driving near the Google campus in Santa Clara and looked to my right only to see a car driving along and the only person in it was sitting in the back seat.

The more we have of the latter, (hopefully!) the less we'll have of the former.

How does everyone feel about Richard/Thomas Middleditch? Annoying or no? For me, at times, he's kind of become like Piper in OITNB: The less we see of the lead, the better. I don't hate him completely but he did grate a few times this season.

That's basically the entire point of his character. He's the straight man/everyman/foil/voice of reason. The reason you like the rest of the characters is because they play off of him. He's perfect at what he does.

I hated him at first until I realized how perfect he is. Sterling is right about Piper though - awful, awful character.

I love Middleditch. I saw him on Conan a few months ago and laughed my entire ass off the whole interview. It made me appreciate his character more too. My favorite moment of his this past season was when he was explaining to the porn site CEO how they'd deleted a fuckton of her data. And at the end his voice goes up about 70 octaves and he says, "And... I think..." something something face to face meeting. "Get out."

This week's wasn't their finest episode but it sets up some good shit. TJ Miller is at his worst when he's the leech sucking other people dry. I like his character when he's shitting on people far more important than him and yelling at people in the house. Not a huge fan of the Big Head/Bachman arc but I realize there's a set up at work here so I'll be interested to see how it plays out.

Having now caught up completely, I gave it some thought. Over on Reddit, people seem to think that Jared is the most normal, well-balanced guy who has everything figured out, but I disagree. He's got an insane backstory and, eventually he's going to snap.

Richard's "m'lady" douchiness might have been the most hilariously cringeworthy moment on this show so far and made me wonder if he's spending his spare time coding for this app (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e8teRxOSNHs).

Same thing on Reddit, really. I wouldn't say that there is a "Reddit" -- there's just a collection of communities/subreddits that happen to all be hosted by the same site. Some are full of shitty people. Some are really interesting. Some are heavily moderated.

It gets a bad rap because of (admitted cesspools) like r/worldnews, r/RedPill, and more recently r/The_Donald. Lots of those people are also on Twitter. And, like Twitter, the solution on Reddit is pretty simple -- don't subscribe/read those. I think there are maybe 2-3 default subreddits that I'm subscribed to. As long as you're logged in and aren't viewing the default front page, I find it's great.

Most of my front page is programming/database/computer stuff, but r/DepthHub (https://www.reddit.com/r/DepthHub), r/TrueReddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueReddit), and especially r/NeutralPolitics (https://www.reddit.com/r/NeutralPolitics) are consistently interesting.

Seems like they do that every season -- the season appears to be headed in a particular direction, one that seems really cool and ripe with possibilities, and then it swerves. I think they must have swerved 3 or 4 times last season alone.
