So, Kane's day with the Cup to be held at Clinton Correctional Facility?

Intrepid Reader Ben Rapelisberger:

If Kane gets more than a 4 game suspension, he's doing it wrong.

This really sucks in so many ways. I don't really see any scenario where this turns out all good. Even if he didn't actually rape the girl, he's going to wear that for quite a while. And then all the other scenarios in between him being convicted of rape mean he probably raped her

Literally everyone I talk to wants to talk about the Kane story and I really do not. But it's sick how quickly everyone jumps to "girls pretend to be raped all the time" like rape isn't a super common thing.

People are bad.

Well and the newspaper contributes to that attitude. That bar owner had literally nothing of value to add to the story beyond "yeah he was at my bar and a woman was with him." So they let him have like half a page to talk about how some slut was totally just hanging all over Kaner,  bro, and then she totes followed him out the door and was obviously asking for it but even though I'm not Kane's friend he is a total gentleman, bro,  and innocent until proven guilty amirite?

The worst part about that interview was the bar owner saying "I have no skin in the game", when he clearly has a fuckload between liability issues and the financial gains he gets from Local Hero Patrick Kane drinking in his establishment.

I'd say he's gone, I'd say I hope he's gone, and I'd say the Hawks are one of the few franchises in the world who can still afford to do cut his ass.  They've already won 3 Cups with him; wouldn't be surprised to see some organizational arrogance that sets out to win at least 2 more without him and not tarnish their brand by going through the muck like the Ravens, which is their only option if they want to keep him and I really don't want to see that play out.  Not for this fucking spoiled, embarrassing ingrate.   As long as this team still has Toews I wouldn't rule it out.

If they really wanted to rat-fuck him, they'd just suspend him for the duration of his contract so he couldn't play hockey anywhere.

They charge him this week. Hawks suspend him pending outcome of his case. He's convicted in the Spring, serves how long in prison -- 10 years, more, less?

If no charges are filed, he stays a Hawk, and we'll have to ask PenFoe or any Lakers fans how to support a team lead by an accused rapist.

That would be awesome.

Also, has anyone figured out what happens if they just cut him? Is that a cap-hit for the remainder of the contract? Keeping him or cutting him isn't really a financial decision (in that, it's not the finances that should rule the decision) but I'm curious as to what would actually happen to the Hawks cap

Pretty sure if they cut him while being compliant with the CBA they won't be taking a hit.

Pretty sure they're keeping a very close eye on how things play out with the Kings and Mike Richards. Absolute worst case, they leave him unprotected in the impending expansion draft and we could be treated to Patrick Kane in Las Vegas.

Also judging by the comments from Hawk fans both male and female, it's the victim's fault.

My sickening feeling is that the McDonough will try and buy his way out of having charges pressed and this will "go away" and things will return to "normal" for a lot of people.

Me? I'm not ready to cheer for a Blackhawks team with a rapist skating for it.

We're basically hoping that the Blackhawks don't try to pervert justice here and I'm not certain they won't. Cynical, I know.

Which is why I never bought into the whole St. Rockwell of Madison St. persona. He's still a fucking Wirtz.

Let's not convict Rocky until he actually does something.

Not for this fucking spoiled, embarrass ingrate.   As long as this team has still have Toews I wouldn't rule it out.

Hawks sign Daniel Paille and Jan Hejda to PTOs.

Guarantee Hejda becomes Q's new ancient unscratchable defenseman, and hopefully if Paille makes the squad it means Ryan Garbutt gets launched.

Patrick Kane's accuser (http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/hamburg/kanes-accuser-no-longer-wishes-to-cooperate-in-investigation-20151103) No longer cooperative.

I hope that St. Rockwell of Madison St. at least gave her some compensation for her life being a living hell in order for his $84 million investment to be protected.

By that I mean, of course he did, if only to make sure there's no civil case either. That could make Mike Ribiero's trial look like Romper Room.

Ribiero never went to trial.  They were in settlement talks almost the entire time, and the victim filed a complaint in civil court when they started stall.  That's where the details on the case came from, and they were sickening.

Kane's love of drink and yayo aren't exactly secrets - neither is the fact that the Hawks' cleaner has his hands full with the boy. But where here in Chicago, problems can solved more quickly (i.e. telling Toews to just walk away from his wrecked car on Lake St. to avoid blowing, or the year they had to handle Kane's "babysitter" [his dad] as much as they had to handle Kane), it's no accident that all Kane's documented runins with law enforcement (or unfortunate limo rides) have happened outside the Greater Chicagoland Area.

So basically this isn't exactly the Hawks' first rodeo with Kane. I expect some of the fallout from this to be that he sells his place in Buffalo and lives in Chicago year-round from here on out.

Okay yes, and that's gone on for ages (you can ask old HJE ShoutBoxer Section 242 about Keith Magnuson's first phone call after getting popped for DUI...and other shenanigans from Magnuson's case)  but nothing that you have revealed here discusses how Patrick Kane's actions are on par with known predator Ribeiro.  It just seems like your mind is made up that he's a  scumbag (which we all agree he might be) and so you might as well double down and throw some shit on the wall that his transgressions are worse than Ribeiro's.  Also, Wirtz somehow managed to muddle the Buffalo case because big liquor cabal money.

So you think Kane might not be a scumbag? Which is there more evidence of? His good deeds or his vices?

Fork's whole tone sounds like Kane has an underage sex dungeon in his basement.  To compare him to Ribiero--who is an unspeakably awful human being-- seems to indicate as much.

Care to elaborate, hoss?

"good deeds"?

First of all it's not a ledger card.

Secondly I can't determine if he's just a run-of-the-mill typically entitled pro athlete scumbag or a Mike Ribeiro raping menace scumbag.  This Buffalo case really didn't really answer it for me, sorry, and I refuse to get sucked into a decisive take based on it in spite of what everyone righteously screaming from both sides insists. But hey--if you want to make up your mind and hate yourself and hate the Blackhawks and hate the NHL and hate hockey on account of it, knock yourself out.

I'd be a lot happier of Kane were nothing but a bad drinker, but that's not the case.

I'd also be a lot happier if I didn't know from Jump Street that money would just make it all go away (http://hockeenight.com/news-and-notes/kane-shame-here-we-go-again/). Sports are supposed to be a fun diversion from the shittiness of the world, not augmentation of it.

The ball-spiking by the dudebros has been a little sad, especially considering this is the third time on public record that a night of Kane drinking has ended with local law enforcement getting involved.

I think Morf was doing it more as a "I'm happy the best right winger in franchise history isn't going to jail" kind of way.

Trevor Daley got traded to Pittsburgh for the rotting corpse of Rob Scuderi, who will make Michael Rozsival look like he has Duncan Keith speed.

On the bright side, the Hawks now have a couple mildo in Cap space, especially since the Pens ate 1/3 of Scuderi's deal.

Basically trying to figure out what or how they maneuver to the trade deadline. Obviously they can cruise along at this pace and get into the playoffs but upgrading is going to be tricky. What the hell are they going to do with Andrew Shaw is the question I keep coming back to.

My heart says I hope to heck they aren't planning on re-signing him which means they can look to deal him, with picks, for a blueliner that can push some of the crap down in the pairings. My head says the Hawks love him and know the fans love him and will do whatever they need to do to keep him around.

Q loves Shaw, so I think he's there until the day the Hawks pack up their shit for the summer. Then Stan will trade him to some team who will love giving him a 5/20 deal and they can think about Hartman or Schmaltz* taking that spot next season.

*I expect Bowman to throw a contract at Schmaltz the minute North Dakota is done for the year.

Auston Matthews is the projected #1 overall. I'd love to see the Quebecois freak the fuck out if the Habs get the #1 overall and pick an American.

Andrew Ladd, Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann, come on down!

The Hawks now have one helluva group of forwards. If they can either somehow snag a DMan or magically find 2011 Ehrhoff hiding inside the 2016 one, mark it 4 in 7.

Even if they lose tomorrow they will have already proven what I've bee saying about this.  Fucking.  Team since 2011 -- they deserve the benefit of the doubt, they're the most feared team  in the NHL year after year, and even if a team does take them out it will take everything out of them to do so as the Hawks will not go down easily (unlike a certain football team from a certain city that got pantsed at home at a certain lakefront stadium year after year in the 1980's) and it is simply a goddamn privilege to have watched this show for over 8 years now.  When they were down 3-1 in this series I honestly thought to myself, "well now it's going to get good".  That was honestly my feeling.  I mean, I was concerned, naturally but I had 7 years to draw on to make me feel good. That's how much faith and confidence I have in this team.  They've earned it.

Honestly I don't know why anybody who is a Hawks fan even bothers with the Hot Takery of declaring, "Oh well this is the year I don't see them advancing" or "This is not their year".  Why bother?  If you're a fan of this team and doubt them, then FUCK YOU, because they have only proven, time after time, that they're a once-in-generation dynastic group.  To actually have watched them finish the job three times in 6 seasons would be proof alone that they've earned the benefit of the doubt but even their losses have been valiant--of their 3 playoff exits since Cup #1 TWO were Game 7 OT losses.  Even the third exit-- the 2012 Phoenix series which on the surface would appear to be the only truly disappointing finish--required 5 straight OT games and basically came down to a white-hot goalie in Mike Smith facing off against a Hawks goalie in Crawford who would have his only true poor playoff performance (aside from Nashville in Round 1 last year I guess).

This series well could have been the Hawk's meekest exit during their run--at any moment the season could've ended for them Thursday night in OT.  But guess what?  It didn't and nobody should be truly surprised and if you're a Hawks fan who has watched them during this 8 year run and wrote them off in this series then you should simply not be allowed to watch any further and derive any further enjoyment from this special group.  A fucking privilege I say.

The fact that the Hawks have 4 hall-of-famers in the Salary Cap Era means they will always contend, because teams can't afford that kind of talent, especially since the Keith and Hossa contracts wouldn't be allowed now.

And playing the Blues in the first round is never a bad thing.

I'm gonna e-mail this whole thing to your dad.

Last night's outcome didn't matter (unless they were to lose, say, 5-0).

I stand by what I said.  Every last damn word.

Andrew Ladd, Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann, come on down!

The Hawks now have one helluva group of forwards. If they can either somehow snag a DMan or magically find 2011 Ehrhoff hiding inside the 2016 one, mark it 4 in 7.

Thanks fork.

I think the only thing that keeps Teuvo in Chicago next year is his small price tag.

Well, the good news is, we've still got one more year of Rundblad!

The piece of shit Canadian dollar and some extremely bad paper in Bickell, and carried over cap hits from Scuderi (and any other bums I might be forgetting) really hurts how this team is going to look next year.

Shaw can't possibly fit in. If you bitch about Panarin's bonus you're a fucking moron. He earned it by having a great year - can't really be mad about that.

I have no fucking idea how they fix anything that was broken other than rest for the guys who haven't had any in years.

Bickell only has a year left right?
Is it time to worry about Hossa's cap hit getting a bit underwater?  He's probably a year or two away from being Prongered, right?

I guess the hope is that Pokka and McNeil and Hartman and whatever other kids they have down there can outplay their cap hits.

On the bright side, there is certainly evidence that TVR and Gustafsson can both improve. That will go a long way toward stabilizing the blueline.

Stan might be able to move Bickell's contract (plus a prospect) to a shitty team looking to make floor.

I'm hoping they can hang onto Panik, he can skate well enough to play on Toews' left, and maybe he can be the Tampa Bay version of Panik.

And I'm perfectly fine with them launching Shaw, Hartman can do everything he can do better and cheaper.

Counterpoint: TVR, Gustafsson, and Hartman all suck. Also, it's highly possible we all underrate Shaw. I don't think any IceHog can do what he does. They just can't afford to keep him around so we've been lying to ourselves for a couple years now. Panik's an easy keep because he won't cost much but let's be real - he's not a first liner on a championship team and never will be.

I'm not tolerating bullshit.

Countercounterpoint: TVR can be very good and very bad, often on successive shifts. Hopefully the Hawks can nab a Cup-chasing veteran D on the cheap (Campbell?) so TVR and Gus can be the bottom pair, which is where they belong. Panik is no Brandon Saad, but if the Hawks could afford one of those, they would have kept the one they had.
