A little shaky at times there, but they did it.  I love this team.  Congratulations, guys.

I wasn't exactly expecting this turn of phrase (http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/42794/the-clutch-moments-that-won-the-cubs-the-world-series) from ESPN:

Quote from: Bradford DoolittleThe Cubs lost Game 1 by a 6-0 score, but when Schwarber nearly went yard against Kluber early in the game, it showed that he wasn't just medically cleared to play. It showed he was ready to ball.

Leave it up to our Cubbies to come back from 3 games to 1, have a 6-3 lead with 2 outs in the 8th and blow that, go to the 10th with a rain delay, score 2, give one back and win game 7 by a run to end 108 years of futility. O FUCKING LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

That game was the best and worst rollercoaster I've ever been on. But to break through 108 years of demons, I guess that's the only way to do it.

I can't wait to watch the entire thing all over again when I've emotionally recovered.

Thanks to all of you for the last ~11 years of commiseration. It's made this absolutely insane ride a lot more bearable.

This team is so much better than any good Cubs team, I have cheered for: 1984, 1989, 1998, 2003, 2007, 2007, etc. A very worthy group of guys to remember.

I'm still weeping.

Happy for all of you.

Running on four hours of sleep. Still no tears of any kind; I guess that's just not how I work. I find that I fluctuate between crushing anxiety and contentment when the Cubs are playing. I'm incredibly happy for the team and the fans... everybody deserves this.

My son is two years old. He'll be told about the 108 years of mediocrity, but he'll never experience or understand it like we do. To me, that's really just about the best part of this.

I just keep crying today.

I work with some Indians fans. I saw one this morning and I just hugged him. I didn't know what to say.

Everyone at work wants to talk to me today, but I'm not sure I'm capable. I should want to talk about this over and over but I'm still a wreck.

Thanks for being a part of all this for so long.

I don't have many words to describe how I feel. I think it's strange because I actually believed it would happen. It's not a fluke. It's not like a guarantee that they would win, but I'm not surprised they did. I think I'm satisfied...and euphoric.

Pen said it well...thanks everyone for being a part of this. This has been a fun ride, and it's really just starting to get much better.

Hey guys,

Long time listener, etc. etc.  Want to thank all of you for being a great place to go as a Cubs fan all of these years. I'd also like to bring out something CT III wrote years ago (in 2011) - it was in some Tony LaRussa thread. I actually saved it because it rang so goddamn true for me that I never forgot it.  It felt good reading it then - during another losing season - and it came true. Glorious, indeed.  Keep doing what you do, guys.

Bah, who gives a shit?  Honestly, outside of Dogpatch?  Nobody.  Theo Epstein is going to build this shit here in Chicago.  And the Cubs are going to win.  And when they do, it's going to be the story of the fucking century.  The Cards fans will cry because they have more World Series titles and the Sox will bitch because they did it first and it won't matter because nobody gives a shit because it all pales in comparison to a single Cubs win..  The Cubs will win the World Series, and all other teams will cease to exist.  And we'll be as obnoxious and insufferable as a billion Red Sox fans.  It will be glorious.  Fucking glorious.

All day long today people have been wandering into my office  and emailing me with congratulations.  I appreciate their generosity and sincerity.  But I am beginning to feel unworthy.  I squirm and apologize.  I am only a fan.  I didn't do it.  I am ashamed of myself for not having felt as happy for these Giants fans when their team won every other year.  (This year was supposed to be theirs under that scheme.)

I regret picking the ABC 7 stream with an anchor who doesn't know any of the players and identified every open-topped bus as "another bus with players these fans wanted to see."  Then the cameras didn't bother zooming in so I couldn't tell, either.  I demand another World Series in 2017 with BETTER PARADE COVERAGE, DAMMIT

I have great coverage on MLB Network (I think they're just streaming the WGN feed, not sure) and it's equally bad.  The announcers are just terrible.

But hey....the fucking Cubs won the World Series.

It's about a day and a half later and I still - LITERALLY - can't believe I was there for games 6 & 7 of a Cubs World Series victory.

I was able to reach my dad from the stands via Facetime about 5 minutes after game 7 ended and could not get a word out because I absolutely lost control and cried my damn eyes out as soon as I saw his face. Then after I thought I had pulled it together, a few minutes later I was able to do the same with my wife & 6 year old son - who she had pulled out of bed before the final out - and immediately melted into a sobbing mess again as soon as I saw his smiling, joyful face. The range of emotions that I experienced during those almost 5 hours of baseball and rain are just...unfathomable. The Baez homer, the Ross homer, the Miggy single - absolute unfiltered joy, and I screamed so loudly I thought my head was going to split in two. The Davis homer - had to choke back vomit. And the final out - Lester talks about how he blacked out during his appearance, which is funny because I just kept telling myself as Montgomery warmed up to NOT BLACK OUT. And my god what a moment it was.

I apologize in advance for being that guy who constantly tells people, unsolicited, that he was there for the greatest game in the history of baseball (and suck my buttpuddle if you believe otherwise). But fuck me if it wasn't one of the top 4 things to ever happen to me.

I am such a wimp that I up and left the house during the rain delay to walk off the tension.

I don't blame you at all. I moved around the house quite a bit, but I never even considered taking a walk. Matters were complicated by my wife and toddler being asleep. I managed not to wake either of them up when the Cubs won, although at the time I was in bed watching the game on my iPad.

This may have already been said, I've been kind of drunk for a couple of days.   But we should all enjoy this for as long as we want to, it is ours forever and ever.  Nobody can take this away, and we fucking deserve it.  So there is no limit to when you can stop thinking about what actually fucking happened, almost crying, deciding to smile and say fuck you.  Because fuck you they fucking did it.

I can't believe it happened.

Honestly, sharing this with all of you guys is the best.

This.  With the exception of STonk, who is genuinely starting to resemble an actual Cubs' fan these days but still only gets out of bed for potential clinchers, I have nobody to share the games with, so you guys have made all the difference for me.  Sitting on my own in the wee hours watching playoff games would have been a singularly joyless and lonely experience, but being able to spend that time slagging you all off in the Slackbox has been a blast.  Meeting up and sharing games in Chicago was even better - it was just a shame that Huey couldn't be bothered to walk an extra block and a half to join us.  Ah well.  Shirtless hugs all round!

Turns out that California born and bred Ms. Cubbieblue is as dedicated a Cub fan as I am.  Understandable.  I have been schlepping her to Cub games in San Francisco since 1959, and regular season games in Oakland and Chicago.  And even to Spring training games in Mesa, Scotsdale and Phoenix.  She was glued to her seat in front of the television while I was pacing the floor, swearing and muttering.  With the last out she was applauding loudly while I sat there, unbelieving.  The least I can do is to be enthusiastic about her Warriors.

Someone needs to sit him down and make him watch video of him trying to throw runners out, right before telling him he's been traded to Minnesota.

That video could also include footage of David Ross, Bodie and Schwarber out-hitting him by, like, 100, 200 and 300 points of OPS respectively.  Maybe also a clip of his being out-oWARed by Arrieta and LaStella.

It's taken me a few days to compose myself, absorb this and finally catch up on sleep, but this is absolutely the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I was going crazy at the last out and had a couple tears then, but it didn't really start to hit until I had more to drink and was by myself after talking to friends/relatives about 3 or so that morning. I just kept watching replays of the end of the game and fans celebrating and it hit me and I started sobbing after 40 yrs of suffering. Yes Stew, I know you waited a metric FUCKTON more than everyone on this site, but I was also thinking about my grandfather and 61-yr old uncle who got cheated by the '03 Scrubs and never lived to see this. They passed in '04/'05 and I cried thinking of how the 1st person I would've called was my uncle, who was like my 2nd dad and would've been going crazy with this win. Stew, I'm so thankful that anyone in your generation was FINALLY FUCKING ABLE to see this besides the rest of us kiddies. I'm also so glad that my traitorous cousin got me on this site back in '07. He's a traitor as he moved for a job to mouth breathing St. Louis and within 2 yrs gave up on the Cubs and become a fucktard Cards fan after 30+ yrs as a Cubbies fan...his dad was the uncle who passed. I will try to promise not to ever meatball again due to previous teams as this is no longer the past but a curse-busting bunch of motherfuckers that we can all believe in. i drove down to Chicago for the parade on 2.5 hrs of sleep and if anyone says there wasn't close to 5 mill people, tell them from all of us there to fuck right off. It was insane there Friday and so deserved.

So I'm sobbing again as my non-traitorous cuz sent me picks of the Wrigley bricks that he put my Papa's and Uncle's names on after I told him to. To end this thought, this was the most amazing season ever from beginning to end and of course filled the huge void in real Cubs' fans hearts, but what really sucks is that it's over. After all this stress and joy during the playoffs, I don't want this season to ever end as I'm sure most on this site will agree. I'm pretty sure this will end up like the Hawks with 3 in 6 or 4 in 8, something like this, but this 1st one, I wish it would keep replaying over and over for the next 6 months.

Went for a morning run past Wrigley this weekend - the first time I've been by since it all ended - and was totally overwhelmed when I saw the bricks just completely covered with chalk messages. The waterworks came on again.

DPD. When I was a kid I remember the commercials for the Sports Illustrated World Series commemorative package that included a retrospective videotape/DVD along with some sort of souvenir, and thinking about how awesome it would be to get one of those for the Cubs. Do they still do that, or does MLB Network or someone else?

I believe they still do that. I know a friend who owns one for the 2011 Cardinals. I am definitely getting one when they announce it. I think you can actually pre-order it on Amazona already.

https://www.amazon.com/2016-World-Champions-Chicago-Blu-ray/dp/B01L1SDZ5Q/ref=pd_ybh?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01L1SDZ5Q&pd_rd_r=F0WP6NNNEVF3A12XV54S&pd_rd_w=bbqMi&pd_rd_wg=hh8zP&psc=1&refRID=F0WP6NNNEVF3A12XV54S

They also do an 8 disc set of the World Series

Awesome, thanks.
The commemorative SI is already at book stores and newsstands. There's a Sporting News one as well.

I'm just glad that the World Series hasn't meant any changes on the fringe.

It's a new day.

I hope RV also gets his football phone.

1942 was my first year of Cub fandom.  1945 was the first year that they broke my heart.  1947 my parents let me take the streetcar alone so I started attending games on my own.  It cost me $0.25 for a ticket and $0.05 to ride the streetcar.  My mother worked at Goldblatt Brothers on Lawrence and  Clark, and sometimes she would leave work early and we would sit in box seats right behind the Cub dugout and watch Charlie Grimm invent signals in the third base coaching box.  (We also saw Andy Pafko catch that ball cleanly in centerfield, not trap it.  We was robbed.)

QuoteSince there is no postseason WAR, how can we capture postseason value? We can use Win Probability Added (WPA), which measures a player's contribution to his team's victory. Add up his WPA and you have an estimate of the number of wins he was directly responsible for.

A few Cubs WPA's for the 2016 postseason (from Fangraphs)

Schwarber 1.46
Russell 0.83
Rizzo 0.53
Bryant 0.35
Contreras 0.26
Zobrist 0.20
Baez 0.18
Ross -0.10
Heyward -0.26
Fowler -0.36

Lester 0.99
Hendricks 0.55
Montgomery 0.27
Arrieta 0.26
Chapman 0.17
Edwards 0.00
Lackey -0.23

While the Cubs were celebrating in the locker room after game 7 and various reporters were milling in trying to get token interviews, one of them tried to talk to Lackey and like a total asshole he snarled "I'M TRYING TO CELEBRATE WITH MY TEAMMATES".

And that moment sent yet another wave of white, hot hatred for the guy through me.  If I can't like him while he's celebrating a World Series title he just helped my team win, I'm never going to like him.

Yeah, it's hard to properly rank my favorite moments from this season because naturally all of the postseason wins get extra credit, but there are things I definitely don't want to forget from the regular season like the Lester walk off bunt, Kris Bryant hitting 3 homers and 2 doubles against the Reds, etc. My kinda team, Charlie.

The gut-wrenching, back-and-forth, hard-fought and hard-earned single victory over Pittsburgh right before the All-Star Break on a hot-as-ass day in Pittsburgh at a point where the Cubs had struggled for their only real stretch of the season--though it was a considerably-long 3 week stretch-- and Pittsburgh was in the midst of their one legit surge of the season.  A game that seems less and less significant as time goes on but felt pretty damn huge at the time.

That's the one that feels most memorable to me.  The rest of the season is fun individual moments, but very few memorable games. Kind of like a Blackhawks regular season.  The Cubs' lead was so big and so early, and coming off a 97 win season, it was all "Let's get to October" for me.

Seriously?  The trophy is going on tour and is going to make personal appearances?  In Rockford?  Is it also expected to say a few words?

Apparently it wanted to check out the local cuisine.

All Mexican food is terrible, so this billboard is fine.

Well, Kansas City *is* known for their Mexican cuisine.

They've gone way too far in their McDonough worship.

As those of you who are FB friends with me know, I've just got back from a few days in Mexico City, and can confirm that the food there was FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

Also, the wrestling.

For the benefit of those not in Slack, where I've already told this story...

Last night I was in Laguardia Airport wearing a Cubs hat, and some guy said, "You're wearing the wrong hat, big guy."

I replied, "It's not a hat, it's a crown."

Being able to chirp NYers? Priceless.
