Luchessi was a total Interim hire. Dallas's plan was to bring in John Vuckovich to manage in 1988.

Joey Amalfitano, Lee Elia, Jim Frey, Joe Altobelli, Jim Essian, Jim Lefebvre, Tom Trebelhorn, Jim Essian, Jim Riggleman, Renee Lachemann, Bruce Kimm, Dusty Baker, Lou Piniella, Mike Quade, Dale Sveum, Ricky Renteria and Joe Maddon are the only living Cubs managers left.
