OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Yeah, no shit. The Tards are finished. But the Astros! Oh, buddy, the Astros give me fits when I sleep. I'm also scared of the boogie man, the Detroit Lions, Peter King and Al Gore.

Heh heh heh...

They traded Dan Wheeler to Tampa Bay for Ty Wigginton.  It's funny to think that a team that's 10.5 games back is buying instead of selling, but this IS the Astros we're talking about here....

Did anyone catch the botched hit and run with Prince on first, someone on 3rd, and 1 out in the Brewers' 8th last night?  Jenkins K's swinging, Prince is running, the catcher drops the ball on the exchange, takes a good full second to find it, picks it up, guns to 2nd.  Prince is still out by 20 feet, but instead of running to tag him--he was a smart fatass and just plopped down in the middle of the basepath--the Reds SS throws home to gun down the guy at 3rd trying to score.

Score it 2-6-3 CS to end the 8th on a strike-em-out, throw-em-out DP.  I'm still laughing about this one.

What's even funnier is that Ned Yost said that the runners were following his play design.  Apparently, if a hit-and-run with runners at the corners and 2 outs fails, they're supposed to treat it as a double steal with the hope being that the runner on 3rd could score before the runner on 1st is tagged out.  Sadly, that's just the kind of play that would have succeeded with ODC behind the plate.

Meanwhile, CoCo (as the Miller Park scoreboard calls him - I kid you not) blows the save.  Norris Hopper?  Are you kidding me?

If he goes 15-13 with a 4.31 this year, that would be great. Those were his numbers with the Jays last year. That ERA has to come down in the NL. I'm thinking 13-10, 4.13. I'd have no complaints.

If he's the #3 starter, behind Z and Hill, it's not bad at all. If he's #4 starter behind Z and Hill, and Prior undergoes a successful addadictomy, it's great. For a #2, we're in last again.

Boy, this guy was way off. What a dick.

I saw that *I* started this thread and took a breath.  I was glad I didn't embarass myself...this time..although there are certainly hundreds of cases here where I have.  I was bracing myself to see the deal get ripped and prepared to calll that Huey guy out as a ledge-jumping, panty-wearin' overreacting pansy.

It is interesting that Pex, who puts on a an optimsitic face more than most (so long as the deals in question don't net middling white guys who walk a lot and get a bunch of singles), still underestimated, vastly it would seem so far, Lilly's season.  Holy shit, Hendry may have gone all Jed Clampett on this one.

Yeah, but who actually expected the fly ball pitching Lilly (fly baller?) would be 11-4 at this point, 5-0 in July, with a 3.16 ERA at Wrigley?

Don't lie to me. I can always tell when people lie to me.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though the wind is blowing in EVERY time I'm watching a game played at Wrigley.

Karen Carpenter's elbow is swelling up during his rehab starts, derailing his pending return.  His future for the season may be known later today:

Ben Sheets is having another MRI on his finger after the first revealed a partial tear of the tissue holding his tendon in place.  He could miss anywhere from 2-3 starts to 6 weeks, depending on the severity.

I can't believe that at this point in the season, I actually feel that we've been lucky on this front.

Fontenot's unwillingness to take a walk scares me.  14-4 K/BB ratio in 104 ABs?  Ewwww...  Anyone know where to find his BABIP?  I'd venture he's getting pretty lucky right now and is due for a correction.  I

His BABIP is .395, which is unsustainable for a guy like him (or anyone else, for that matter).  I hate to agree with you but you're right -- that's going to come way, way down.

http://firstinning.com/players/Mike-Fontenot-a/

Fontenot's BABIP in 233 PA at AAA last year was .376.  Perhaps not so coincidentally, his BB% took a big drop while his SLG% went up last year, too.  All around, he had a banner season last year, even if he did only play half the season.

I agree that his BABIP is going to come down some (it was a ridiculous .431 in June), but it could also be a sign of a guy who discovered his form of passiveness at the plate was holding him back a bit and he made a conscious decision to be more aggressive.  Hopefully, he can find that happy medium in between.

For now, Comcast is the best interwebs you can get at home (see: reasonable price).  I do wish ATT would get off their crappy DSL ass and start building something like Verizon's FiOS.  FTTP is teh steak sauce and I drool over what you can get out on the east coast.

Fork, can you get On-Demand through you CableCARDs?

I do indeed get On-Demand through me CableCARDs.

And, I had Verizon as my high-speed provider when I was in NY. Steak sauce.

I had thought that the Series3 TiVo didn't support CableCARD 2.0.  Obviously, I was dead wrong there.  If the cable company provides version 2.0 CableCARDs, then I guess VOD and PPV options should be available through your TiVo.  Neat-o.  I'm curious to know how it works, too.

My only negative about Series 3 is that it doesn't allow network interface between DVRs like Series 2 does...I've got a 2 and 3 hooked up to my living room TV, and a 2 hooked up to my guest room TV, so I can at least move programs from room to room, even if I need to have 2 DVRs running into one TV.

As much as I would love to make out with a Series 3...The HD DVR "rental" from Comcast is $10/month (approx) and the Series 3 TIVO is around $800 (approx).  That's 80 months before the price breaks even.  By then there's more than likely going to be a new version or format out.  If the rumors are true, the DVR "rental" goes to $5/mo (160 months before b/e) and the TIVO model is $15/mo (53 months before b/e).

That's one of the reasons I ditched D*.  I didn't want to shell out $1000 for their HD receiver (this was before they rented them as well) when I could rent a Comcast one for much cheaper.

You can get a Series3 TiVo from Amazon for under $600.  You're always going to pay more for the TiVo because it's a higher quality product and it's 3rd party.  But I agree that it's still a lot of money to pay up front.

My Series2 will stay in my house until the day it dies.  I just hope that when I'm ready to take the plunge on an upgrade, that TiVo is still offering the ability to transfer my lifetime service to the new one.  Rumor has it that a cheaper version of the Series3 is in the works.

AT&T is running fiber for their new U-Verse network, but they're only running it to the node instead of the premises, unlike Verizon's FIOS.  My mother-in-law is subscribing to a U-Verse package deal for home phone, DSL, and IPTV.  The bundle package is pretty cheap (like $85/mo.), but the Internet speeds are typical DSL speeds and don't come anywhere close to what FIOS offers.

From what I know about CableCARDs, they're not currently capable of doing on-demand.  There's supposed to be another version of them that will support on-demand, but the cable industry is certainly in no hurry to get them out there.  They're too busy plotting their rate hike to cover the cost of developing set-top boxes that support CableCARDs.  The last thing they want is for 3rd-parties to have the ability to eliminate their lucrative equipment rental fees.  I hate the cable industry.

Sean Gallagher is back with the Cubs.  Billy Petrick was sent back to his parents for another BBQ.  I guess we've got a long-man in the pen until the All-Star break.

He can sit next to the fat man until the funny man comes back.

Seeing as how that means the starters are going 6-7 innings each, I'm all for that.

So, at 7-2, is the positive dead again?  That Milwaukee team really was disheartened by the loss yesterday.

It would help your cause if you didn't seem like you're reveling in it, Chuck.

Even if they lose this one, they just won 7 in a row.  Go get 'em tomorrow, if they can't rally today.
Reveling?  More like getting pissed at the cock teasing.  The hooked them up and let them off.

Oh please.  Do you really believe this shit that's crawling out of your mouth, or are you just really craving attention?

You said yourself that 2 out of 3 is a step in the right direction, and losing 2 of 3 means they're phony.  So now you're not even bothering to stick around for the rubber match?  Because they couldn't take a pulled-from-their ass exciting victory and automatically transfer that momentum to today?  Do you really believe that's how it works?  Are you being deliberately reactionary, or can you truly not see that they've simply lost one game, and have a a shot at a 5-1 homestand?

They lose tomorrow, my positive's going out for a drive for a while.  But ripping into this team because their second-year pitcher got skunked by a good-hitting team that didn't crawl into a hole like you or your hand-crafted strawman expected them to is really petulant, Chuck.  Even for you.

I'm just impressed that this team has shown that it's actually capable of an extended winning streak.  And if you're going to lose, you might as well go ahead and lose 13-4, or however this one is going to end.  Maybe they'll be tired of rounding the bases tomorrow.

I'm surprised Yost left Sheets out there for 124 pitches in a blow-out.  The Cubs had their second-stringers in by the 6th.

Finally, I positive the Marmot.  Just keep him out of the tub.

He was the tits and the tops last night...will he be able to do this type of thing consistently, or is he our new Juan Cruz Andy Pratt?

Traded (and vomited).
