OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Sausage Fest 2008.

All kidding aside, sounds like a good time. I'm a definite maybe right now.

Get off the damn fence, Dave.  Shit's 4 months away.

As for the Randall Simon sausgae beatin', I may still bring the missus if there are any extras around, closer to game day.  Fork ain't makin' no promises, though.  Once it's filled, it's filled.  I'd recommend you morons start commiting to this before it gets opened up to a wider audience and people start recommending *real* friends sign up.  I'm thinking it may truly be legen...

Part 2 in a series on places to eat on Howard between Clark and Western...

It's: Bar-B-Que Bob's, in the small plaza at the SE corner of Howard and Hoyne.

http://www.barbquebobs.com/

Visible in full blurry detail here.

Decent enough place. Their ribs are pretty damned smoky.

And you can tell it's run by authentic black people because they often screen bootleg DVDs on a small TV above the front counter.

Biggest downside: they're closed Sundays and Mondays.

I can't even tell you how much potential business they've lost from me because they're always closed when I get a hankerin' for some Sunday football ribbage.

No... This I simply do not approve of.

Went there tonight. I positive. I also feel like an idiot for not knowing such fine BBQ was within a mile of my house.

The fact that I've lived in the area longer than  you have and have not been there makes me feel like a bigger idiot.

BBQ Bob's will be in my belly before too long.

This is from Bill Simmon's column

QuoteQ: If you're at a blackjack table and John Paxson sits down with you, how fast do you get up and run to another table? The guy stayed on 16 last season by not acquiring Gasol when the East was wide open for the taking, and now that he's down a few grand, he's making wild moves like splitting 10s (trading for Larry Hughes).
-- Rich, Upper Darby, Pa.

SG: See, I think the Hughes deal was like splitting sixes against a 10 -- your hand was already going to lose, why make it worse? Poor Paxson. He's like the buddy in Vegas who went on a huge late-night run, had two grand in chips in front of him and everyone telling him, "Come on, cash in -- we'll get a late night breakfast and come back strong tomorrow," only he was saying, "Nah, I can double this," so everyone goes to eat ... then they come back 90 minutes later to find out that he's down to 200 bucks and getting worked over by a dealer who looks exactly like Bai Ling.

Doesn't he know that the Grizzlies were looking for expiring contracts?  Or Reinsdorf refuses to up the salary because of the luxury tax? Is it too much to ask to know the facts before you write something?

Yeah.  Poor Paxson.  He's only an All-American NCAA guard who sealed off one NBA Finals Series with a flurry of jumpers, and closed out a three-peat with another one in the desert.   What's sad about it is that he's being sent up some douchebag chowderhead's little camp humor.

QuoteAfter answering a question about Kerry Wood's performance, Piniella stopped in mid-sentence and began talking about Marquis again.

"You know, that galls me about Marquis, it really does," he said. "I'm not pleased with that comment. We've had a good camp over here, everybody's getting an opportunity. Go out and win a spot in the rotation."

Lou's the balls.

Mrs.Drinky gifted me a year's subscription to the Bacon of the Month club a couple of years ago.  Pretty pricey for what you get (which is why I didn't renew it), but still nice to get a pound or so of sweet bacon in the mail once a month.

Bacon of the month?  How many different kinds of bacon are there that there needs to be a club?

You would receive a package from a different smokehouse once a month.  Each smokehouse has their own take/specialty.  Sometimes it would be an applewood smoked bacon, some were more peppery, etc.  It was like the microbrew beer of the month, only with delicious pork.

How pricey was it?

Because delicious bacon delivered to your door sounds like it could be worth at least a decent premium.

http://www.gratefulpalate.com/?p=Category_11 was my hookup.

$150 plus S&H for a year.  Considering you only get a pound at best each month, it just seemed a little steep.  But, the bacon was almost always awesome.

That just sounds totally fantastic.

I think the Giants playoff drought isn't because Barry was selfish or a prick, it's more that when he was healthy during those years he was younger than half the team of ageds that they put around him.  He'd probably fit in in St. Louis, given their historic love of guys on the juice, but he's far better suited to be a DH now.  Tampa's not a bad place for him, given that they perennially piss DH at bats away on stiffs like Greg Vaughn, Fred McGriff or Greg Norton, so he wouldn't be stealing at bats from anybody who actually needs them.

And, with the media horde no longer following him, he's probably less of a distraction to a team than a guy like Sammy who wants every TV camera pointed at him.

And, when he goes to prison, he'll do it in a Tampa Bay Rays cap.  It's a win-win!

Fork?

QuoteCubs center fielders hit a fine .302/.344/.466 for Dusty Baker's 2003 club, which came within five outs of a World Series appearance.  Most of the ABs at the position went to Corey Patterson and Kenny Lofton that year.

Dusty's managing the Reds now, and both center fielders remain free agents as of February 17th.  The Reds have some uncertainty in center field, though Jay Bruce is a stud and Ryan Freel is said to be 100%.  According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Baker has spoken to both Lofton and Patterson recently.  They are options for the Reds; Baker says Lofton seeks a Major League deal. In that case someone would have to be booted off the team's 40 man roster.  Six days ago, Ken Rosenthal reported that the Reds' interest in Lofton might depend on who they might trade for another starter (with Joe Blanton as the main target).

The Reds currently have Kent Mercker and Paul BakoJose Macias  in camp as non-roster invitees; both neither played for Baker in '03.

What's with this douchebag?  I thought he was a Cubs fan.

Now who's the douchebag?

I just realized last weekend that smoke daddy delivers. Now a winner is me many times in the next years. When I placed my order for a slab of ribs and fries, the guy delivered it in less than 20 minutes.

Is that the place around that River West industrial corridor near Milwaukee, Chicago and (wait for it...) Ogden?  Cuz I ate there shortly after they opened around 1999 or so and thought it sucked.  i had a pulled pork sandwich and the meat was all neatly tucked within the bun.  it was the least messy bbq sandwich I ever had and as anyone who's eaten over 1,000 lbs. of BBQ can attest to, that's not good.  Shortly after I ate there, I was reading a bunch of positive reviews about the place and it pissed me off.  Made me think someone with clout ran the place or something.  Anyway, the place is still there and people still speak well about it, so maybe I should give it another chance.  I just have a vision in my head of a BBQ sandwich that looks like it was made at Dairy Queen.

Where I grew up in the NW burbs, our next door neighbor was an evil widow whose punishments of her two boys were legendary (and greatly exaggerated, no doubt).  If a ball landed in her yard, it was a frightening prospect for my friends and me to jump her fence and fetch it since her reputation so preceded her.  Oddly enough, both her and my mom were immigrants--probably the only two on the block.  And even though they were from the same part of the globe, they may as well have been from different universes as my neighbor was born in Scotland and my mom was born in Ireland. Naturally, they had little use for each other.  Of course, we being Irish Catholic and therefore a large family (5 kids) was something that our next door neighbor took note of as, my mom would tell me years later, the only communication that this woman ever really had with my mom would be when she would mutter at my mom about keeping her "papist kids" off of her lawn.  I always thought that "papist" was an odd pejorative but I can see now that it was rather common.

I made the Ratto-digested comment that if this fuckstain pitches before Memorial Day that all of the Prior defenders can eat my ass.  Well, Kerm took offense to that and, to his credit, later issued his own mea culpa when he witnessed first-hand Jim Hendry calling  Prior out for being a namby-pamby who wanted to weasel out of Chicago in the worst way.  Had Kerm not not gone all John "Bulldog" Drummond for that scoop, then this would be the day when I would tell all of the Prior defenders to eat my ass since the whole negotiation with him revolved around the presumption that he'd hardly pitch this year.

I think I hate this guy more than Matt Morris.

I still don't understand why anybody would want to eat Mike's ass.

Want's got nothing to do with it, my friend.  It's punishment for making my ass angry.
