OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Desipio Lounge / Re: Questions about Swine Flu
May 02, 2009, 11:35:55 AM
I was coughing up a storm last night because I have a cold, and I think I freaked out the guy working at 7-11 when I went in to get some food at 1am. The poor guy probably thinks he has swine flu now. That's too bad for him, but I really wanted some taquitos.

Not the NLC, but I hope you'll forgive me...

QuoteSURPRISE, Ariz. -- Relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow has agreed to stay in the Rangers organization and start the season at Triple-A Oklahoma.

Turnbow allowed three more runs in a 10-3 loss to the Giants on Tuesday and has an 8.10 ERA for the spring. He admitted he needs work on his mechanics and fastball command. Turnbow is in camp on a Minor League contract, and he could have opted for free agency if he wasn't added to the Major League roster. Being able to stay in touch with pitching coach Mike Maddux was a significant factor.

"I've been struggling with consistency all spring," Turnbow said. "I need more time to get the rust off and get my mechanics right."

Turnbow, who has been dealing with mechanical and shoulder problems the past few years that have affected his command, had a 15.63 ERA in eight appearances with the Brewers last year and a 10.50 ERA in Triple-A. He did not pitch after July 12, and an MRI revealed he had a partial tear in his rotator cuff.

Turnbow was an All-Star for the Brewers in 2006, but he finished that season with a 6.87 ERA. He had a 4.53 ERA in 77 appearances in '07. He was 7-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 39 saves for the Brewers in 2005, his best season in the Major Leagues.

Update: Turdthrow released by the Rangers.

Pretty sure that means your career is over.

Rangers released RHP Derrick Turnbow.
Looks like the end of the line for Turnbow. He wasn't a control specialist in his prime, but 9 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 1/3 minor-league innings won't get you a job in the major leagues.

Game over.

bashing the troops, and their mission

Again with this shit. People are allowed to have an opinion about the mission. You can try and twist it all you want, but it ain't bashing the troops. That really chaps my hide.

How could Rondo's foul on Miller not be a flagrant?  The guy wasn't even in the same area code as the ball and practically knocked Miller's tooth out.  Isn't the whole point of the flagrant foul to police against the mugging that that little punk pulled off?

I know it makes me sound like a stupid sports radio caller, but I'm hoping the Bulls put in Aaron Gray for the first time Rondo drives to the basket in Game 6 so he can slam the little twerp into the ground.  Take the flagrant and the ejection, have the team chip in and pay Gray's fine and move on.

I'm not totally confident Gray has the ability or coordination to do even this, but I want someone to try.

Hell yes. It might be the typical meatball fan reaction, but I'm with you.

http://washingtonindependent.com/40593/concerned-women-asking-about-swine-flu-panic

Quote"Some people think that declaring a state of emergency about the flu was a political thing to push the Sebelius nomination through," said Wright. She pointed to news stories that ask whether the slow-walking of the Sebelius choice will hurt the response to the flu. "If there's even a hint that [Department of Homeland Security] is manipulating the health situation to push a political appointee through, well, it almost defies imagination that they'd be willing to that."

Wright said that she'd heard the speculation "on talk radio," and wanted to be skeptical, but "there's too much of a basis in that argument to easily dismiss it."

It almost defies imagination.

Apart, of course, from the part where she imagines it could be totally true.

Hold on...are you saying we aren't supposed to believe everything we hear on talk radio?

It seemed like nobody cared because everyone skipped my perfectly good thread to talk about dead pool picks or start their own thread. Hopefully we're a little more organized when Rue McClanahan kicks the bucket.

So David agreed to fire Charles?

Well that's not very realsitic.

Was he fired? I thought he just got moved out of the Scranton office, maybe back to corporate.

It's too bad the Michael Scott Paper Company had to come to an end. I'm glad they didn't drag it out too long, but that was a hilarious storyline. Will Ryan be the new receptionist?

I hope not.  I dig the new receptionist.

THI.

And she's kinky.

Samardzija getting rocked in the 9th.

Embarrassing getting beat two out of three by this team. Four of the eight regulars are/were hitting under .200.

This team needs to wake the fuck up.

It's April.

They'll be 8-6 after this loss.  That only puts them on pace for 93 wins.  PANIC, Mike.  Embrace it.

Seriously.  Is it me or have people gotten more and more impatient earlier and earlier every year?  I don't know where people get off expecting this team to play flawless baseball every day for 6 months.  Have most of you not been watching this sport your whole lives?  Do you really expect them to go through a whole season without playing like shit from time to time?

Maybe it's because there is so much more coverage now with the interwebs and sportstalk radio and the booyahs nitpicking over every pitch whether it's April or October.

I have a question for you octomoms.  Since this cat is hurt again and "day-to-day", why is he not just serving his suspension?  I'm puzzled by this.

Because:  http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2962

If the player appeals, he can still play until there is a decision, right?

But he's not playing.

Point is: why not take your two game suspension if you're already sitting out a couple games anyways?

Because when you appeal the suspension usually gets shortened.

Plus, in this case, it's worth fighting it since the reason for the suspension is utter fucking horseshit of the highest order to begin with. The MLBPA should be raising hell about it.

Who cares if it is horseshit or not? And who cares if it is shortened? He could use two days off anyway. They probably should have put him on the DL right away.

Well, I would imagine Milt cares. And I would guess the Cubs do too. They need to make the point that Bradley shouldn't get suspended for something another player would not.

Any other player makes bill-to-bill contact in that situation and the crew doesn't even file a report.

I'm sure Milt cares. Maybe you're right, but I doubt it will make a difference with his reputation.

Not for nothing, but it also costs him two games' pay.

Big surprise...Oleg sides with the union.
