OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Also, while it's not my bag, Hard Cider has come a long, long way and I know a lot of people drinking it.
Worth giving it a shot.

It's hugely popular in Canada. We have literally dozens of different brands and I've sampled most of them. I don't drink that often, but when I do, it's cider.

mrs. flannj and I started binge watching this "TV Show" about a month ago.
We just finished season 4.
She wants a dire wolf.
People that have watched it keep telling us that they are jealous of us.

I like boobs.

There sure as hell seems to be a lot of castration.
Not a fan of that part.

The rest is entertaining as fuck.

Our neighbours have a wolf hound. It's frigging huge.

Is it really so unusual to use cyanoacrylate glue to seal minor but nonhealing wounds? All the hand-washing in my life, between the cat gulag and miscellaneous stacks of dishes, has led to multiple splits in the corners of my fingers, which are painful, occasionally bloody, and just increasing.

I have been criticized for not using lotion. Or petroleum jelly. I have no interest in that greasy nonsense. Moreover, the Duro brand has a crappy applicator,* so I have a simulacrum of increased grip strength.

*I went straight from the tube before I figured out that there was a nozzle.

My wife gets this in the wintertime, her fingers and hands crack and split painfully. She applies lotions at bedtime, usually.

Assuming Joe doesn't accept a promotion into the front office, he's on track to become the 5th winningest manager in Cubs history this coming year. Joe will surpass Joe McCarthy sometime in 2019. Only Charlie Grimm, and Hall of Famers McCarthy, Cap Anson, Frank Chance, and Leo Durocher are ahead of him. In his short time with the team, he's surpassed Riggleman, Baker, and Pinella, who are directly below him on the list.

Lester's numbers, pretty much across the board, are better as a Cub than they were as a player on the Red Sox. I still don't expect him to make it all the way through his contract an effective front line starter, but he's near the end and he's earned every dollar.

I had that dream again last night.  You know.  The one where I am back in school and on my way to take a final exam in a course where I never attended a class and never opened the text book, but it didn't matter because I couldn't find the room where the test was being given.  This was a variation.  It was a Wednesday and I was booked to perform a guitar concert on the following Monday.  However, I don't know how to play the guitar and didn't own one.  To make it worse, I had picked out my wardrobe for the event.  Leather bell bottom jeans, a shiny, pointy lapeled, print, polyester shirt, a phony leather vest, and a leather cap that a pimp wore in the 1970s.  What a nightmare!

Relevant xkcd. As far as I can recall, I think I've only had one university dream since I graduated. Maybe I'm less likely to have school dreams, since I'm still in schools every day. I have had a few stress dreams about not being prepared to teach.

I'm wondering if Maddon's style and outlook is perfect for a young team facing the pressures of toppling a historic championship drought, but not necessarily a perfect fit for a team trying to build a Cubs Way of winning for years to come.

I have a feeling that Joe will try to go out on top next year, and will take some kind of position in the Cubs front office, paving the way toward hiring a replacement who can help the Cubs take the next step toward perennial contention.

Who has time to read anymore? I don't even read things online. I have everything dictated to me by an audio program that sounds like Stone Cold Steve Austin shouting.

Since August 21, they're 19-11. Not bad for a run of daily baseball and no rest. I hope they have something left in the tank next month.

If they lose it won't be because they're gassed.  They'll have the division wrapped up by Friday and will have until the following Friday before playing meaningful baseball again.  It's a down a year in the National League so they have as good a shot as anyone at the pennant.  In my view, one of the following three cold players needs to step it up in the playoffs, otherwise they're going to struggle to advance:  Happ, Almora and Contreras.  If one of those guys picks up his game in the playoffs, it'll bode well.

I don't know if there's a perfect formula. The bullpen remains my big concern. They've been generally quite good/reliable, but their roles in the post season get amplified. No huge expectations from me - honestly, the World Series broke my fandom a little bit. I just don't get worked up anymore like I used to. I'm just happy they're good.

Not sure if this is the place to put it, but...

This time of year, I'm too busy/exhausted to catch a lot of games. But last night I stayed up late and watched the team batter the D-Backs. Even though they've been struggling a bit lately, it's just so nice to watch these guys. Sure, there are a bunch of new faces from after '16 already, but there is such a phenomenal core of good, still-young players on this team. Who knows what the next core will look like, or how long it'll be before we see them? Has there ever been a group as fun, and talented, and interesting as this team, just on a year-to-year basis?

Gotta be honest - with the bullpen very questionable, and half the bats in perpetual slump, it seems, I'm not putting a ton of faith into this being an October to remember. But they're still just so much fun to watch anyway, I don't even care. I certainly hope they get back there before most of the core begins to fracture apart (or get old and move on/retire, whichever is more likely), because it would be so much fun to see an encore, but I love this team regardless. I'm so appreciative of how good they are.
