OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Yes, Iowa got lucky.  But can anyone explain the logic of why a blocked kick that doesn't cross the line of scrimmage that is recovered by the kicking team results in a clock stoppage?  Why is that any different from a fumble recovery or a recovery of a dropped lateral?

Considering that he is not only our Resident Desipio Rules Expert but an Iowa grad, I would expect a Dave B. post in 3...2...1...
If the answer is, "Because the rule is written that way," then it's a fucking dumb rule.  One hopes it's not because a blocked FG takes longer to untangle the bodies than any other type of play does.

There is some logic here.  Right?

A blocked field goal is treated like an incomplete pass.

""Not everybody is the perfect person in the world," Pryor said of Vick. "Everyone does -- kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me. I just feel that people need to give him a chance.""

Ted Lilly doesn't see a problem with this quote.

I can't let this go because it's just simply so hard to believe one shitty player can make this much of a difference. But at this point it can't be called a coincidence.

Thru yesterday's game:

2009 Cubs in games Aaron Miles played: 24-38 (.387)

2009 Cubs in games Aaron Miles did not play: 43-27 (.614)

I'd still say it's pretty coincidental, but it's hilarious.

I just want to tip my cap to whoever it was who christened this chode "Patient Zero of Suck".

I'd still say it's pretty coincidental, but it's hilarious.

A lot of it is coincidental, if you break out the record by plate appearances.

PA W L W%
5 4 1 0.800
4 8 7 0.533
3 3 11 0.214
2 1 3 0.250
1 8 17 0.320
0 43 27 0.614

So GoDR's statistic is flawed as it assigns responsibility for a lot of losses where Miles came in late in the game as a pinch hitter/replacement.

But make no mistake about it, Aaron Miles has had one of the worst years among any player in the Majors. Thankfully there are actual statistics for this sort of thing.

Name Team Batting Fielding Replacement Positional RAR WAR Dollars
Vernon Wells Blue Jays -11.7 -18.9 18.8 1.9 -10.0 -1.0 ($4.5)
Jon Garland - - - -12.5 2.1 0.0 -10.4 -1.0 ($4.7)
Alexi Casilla Twins -13.7 -7.8 8.1 1.1 -12.3 -1.2 ($5.5)
Aaron Miles Cubs -17.2 -3.0 5.3 1.3 -13.6 -1.4 ($6.1)
Delmon Young Twins -9.5 -10.7 10.3 -4.3 -14.3 -1.4 ($6.4)
Brian Giles Padres -14.1 -7.9 8.5 -2.8 -16.3 -1.6 ($7.3)
Jose Guillen Royals -6.3 -18.4 10.4 -4.4 -18.7 -1.9 ($8.4)
Gary Matthews Jr. Angels -8.2 -20.8 10.6 -0.8 -19.2 -1.9 ($8.6)
Yuniesky Betancourt - - - -20.9 -17.3 13.6 5.0 -19.6 -2.0 ($8.8)

So, had Hendry picked some odd shlub out of AAA and given him Miles' spot, the Cubs would've won an extra ballgame or two. His WPA of -2.00 backs that figure up. Hilariously/sadly, Miles is only making about $2.2 mil for the year, yet he's being overpaid by about $8 mil.

Beaten like the red-headed step child that I am.

It's a lot funnier when you don't break it down...

Can't put a price on advice like this.

"The best piece of Abreu advice?

"Swing at more pitches in the strike zone, and you have a better chance of getting hits," Hunter said. "I've been doing that.""

Von Joshua just smacked himself in the head and yelled, "why the fuck didn't I think of THAT!!!!"

While the idea of Adam Dunn patrolling right field scores high in the "potential for unintentional hilarity" category, that's probably not what Hendry's looking for in an outfielder.

I just find Milton to be extremely annoying. At this point it's not even original to criticize him, everyone know's he's been a disappointment. What bugs me is instead of shutting the fuck up and earning that 10 million dollars he just seems pre-occupied with complaining about:

1. Umpires
2. Not having any teammates he can relate to
3. Fans
4. The weather

Ok, so I made the last one up. But you get the gist.

Since he's gave us the gift of a third year by not spending half of his season on the DL, I just hope he shuts the fuck up and plays ball.

Problem is he won't shut up and play ball. It's not in his make-up.

I would agree that Milt is far down the list on reasons this season has been one long trip on the fail train but he is probably going to play his way out of town due to the fact he won't shut the fuck up.

The abuse is only going to get worse if he keeps bitching about it. And since it's highly likely he will continue to receive questions about it he's not going to stop bitching.

I still can't believe Hendry thought Milt could handle the pressure that goes with playing here.

Milty, Z and Marmol are my favorite player not named Aramis. I don't really care that much about anybody else on the team or in the fanbase or the media. Fuck you too, by the way.

So we've been calling Cubs fans idiots for years and now we find that Milton Bradley agrees with us and we're going to hate him for it? I'm with Milt. Fuck the Cubs.

Whoa there sailor, I don't hate him for calling Cubs fans idiots.  I just...don't like him.  Even I'm not sure why sometimes.

And aren't you the guy who's always screaming that Derek Lee should SHUT THE HELL UP AND PLAY BALL whenever he says anything about the fans?

Oooh.  He's got you there, Mitch.

I agree that Cub fans are idiots.  But I also suspect that a lot of the heckling that Bradley hears is coming from inside his own head.  The guy is, how shall I put it politely, a bit "touched" in the head, methinks.

If by "touched" you mean "batshit crazy" I would have to agree.

Charming.  Just think, only two more years of his cheerful, good-natured attitude.

Two more years of games like he had last night are okay with me.

Be nice if he had them when they were still in the race.

WGN news is teasing a story that the Cubs' sale is "imminent".

Dusty is nothing but efficient.

I'm sure you'll all be shocked to know that Cueto had ridiculously high pitch counts in just about all of his starts.

Yeah, but did Dusty ever pitch him in 4 innings of relief between starts?

No but he did have a string of 11 straight starts where he threw 98 or more pitches and only went beyond seven innings once.
