OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Detroit tries to hand the Deadbirds a game by walking Yadier Molina with 2 outs in the 7th to force in the go-ahead run and then gives up a 2-out single to the 0-4 Aaron Miles.

Twice, the Deadbirds give the lead back (Jason Isringhausen...shitty no matter where he's at in the pen.  Think about him next time you bitch about Wuertz.).  Then the Tigers win in the bottom of 9.

I think this is the St. Louis team we expected at the start of the season.

If anybody has the Extra Innings package you can flip over to the Pirates game and watch Dave Wannstache pound beers in the front row right behind home plate.

I'd prefer to watch anything pound Dave Wannstache.

Ditto.  And I'm stuck with him for a few more years.  If only that stache weren't so good at tickling the Chancellor's daughter the right way...or the Chancellor...or his wife...or something.  Fuck.

Not even Pitt's win against WVU this year was worth that extension.

And I want Shawn Chacon's autograph.

This might be the gheyest thing ever posted on the Intrawebs...clearly by a Cardinals fan:

Who knew?

QuoteEyre ran his consecutive scoreless appearance streak to 31 games, tying Ryan Dempster's franchise record.

Looking back through Eyre's game log, he's given up just two runs since July 4 of last year.

I would think a stats-geek like you would see right through this pointless record.  Especially for a LOOGY.

Now, the fact that he hasn't allowed an inherited runner to score and has retired 12 consecutive first hitters he's faced, that's something.

By the way, according to BR, he finished 30th in MVP voting in 2005.

You don't pay attention. Inherited runners is a BS stat. Hits fall in when they fall in. A single is a single and a pitcher is going to give up a freakin' hit now and then. If it comes when he's trying to clean up someone's mess, that sucks even worse.

I think that inherited runners scored tells you something...

It's just that it tells you something a pitcher's K/inning and ground ball/fly ball ratio tells you.  It might also tell you something about how well a reliever pitches with runners on compared to the bases empty...which is probably useful information.

But otherwise, I agree.

QuoteTUESDAY: David Lennon adds that the Mets would only be willing to offer Turnbow a minor league deal.  Meanwhile, Gordon Edes hasn't heard anything about the Red Sox pursuing him.

MONDAY: According to John Delcos of The Journal News, the Mets are "discussing whether to sign Derrick Turnbow" (hat tip to MetsBlog).  Turnbow seems like a reasonable gamble for the Mets.  Most teams could stand to add relief depth.

Turnbow was designated on Friday; Ken Rosenthal recently suggested that four teams are interested.  The Brewers would have to do something about his $3.2MM salary if they are to strike a deal.

The Brewers are having their own bullpen problems despite a pricey offseason makeover.  Eric Gagne and David Riske, making a combined $14MM this year, have disappointed so far.

I hope one of them is St. Louis.

It is quite a logical move what with the poo Izzy has been offering as of late and all.

Nice work Izzy--2 pitches, 2 outs, then 1B, 1B, BB, 2R 1B - Game over.

And I got to watch it with a Cardinals fan.

You had a date with BC tonight? I wondered what the broad that gave him a number looked like. Now I know. Yilch.

That's brutal Apex. CubFaninHydePark is way too classy to be out drinking beers with me.

...

Um, no. He's not. Good dude and all but I wouldn't say he's too classy to be out having beers with you. Or 44 ounce steaks for that matter.

Also, he's a Penguins fan.  That pretty much precludes him from being "too classy" for anything.

Certainly not too classy to be hurling expletives at New York's worst suburb--Philadelphia for the next couple of weeks.

Nice to see the Cards lose again today.  With Izzy shutdown, how long can they go without giving Turnblow a shot?  Watching him become the gift that keeps on giving...too good to be true?

And that Cards fan was my Dad.  But nice one Pex.  I'm gonna have to get up to Carmichael's and find my name on that plaque one of these days...

Aw, let's give joesoxfan a break. He and his fellow Sox fans have lightened up some. They've even forgiven Billy Buckner. Using Joe Sox fan's math, he only booted that ground ball against the Mets in a Game 6 that was already tied up 448 years ago.

Is he a Red Sox fan? I assumed he was an emo, amphetamine-addled White Sox fan who loves himself some Fall Out Boy.

Everyone knows "sox" refers to the Red Sox. Haven't you ever seen ESPN?

The Red Sox and the Yankees are the only two teams playing in baseball, right?

Back to D-Lee for a second.

He gets off to a hot start, then in one of his ABs Sunday, Len and Bob mention how he hadn't walked yet this season. Well, sure enough, he walks. Then I watch yesterday afternoon and he gets caught looking on some close pitches. It reminded me of the long stretches last season when he would get buzzed repeatedly on the outside corner, often taking called third strikes (and his numbers were a little "down" for him). One might theorize that D-Lee is better off being aggressive in the strike zone and not trying to coak walks or take chances on borderline outside-corner pitches.

I'm pretty sure that a member of the 90's Braves wouldn't have expected to get the strike 3 call he was rung up on.  I mean, there's a close pitch, and there's 6 inches off the plate.

DLee has hit the ball to the opposite field well so far this year, at least from what I've seen.  I'm not worried about this trend.

even though we joke about Cub fans being racist, the "Horry Cow" shirts I saw at Wrigley field were pretty damn disgusting.

I'd rather wear an "It's Gonna Happen" shirt.

Racism, ignorance... it's all the same.  Sadly, I think those people mean well, or at least aren't ill-intentioned, in a really perverted way.

I'll stick to "Fuckyoudome" because it's funny.  And because I'm sure I was one of 5% of Cubs fans who knew how to pronounce his name when he was signed.  It's nice to know a good chunk of that 5% flock to this board.

I'm a definite maybe.  I have one more week in Minny after that for my summer gig, but I could easily afford the flight back and game.

Why argue? Grey Goose...JW Blue....there's room for both of those and much much more in the wonderful world of booze.

Indeed.

Three cheers for alcohol!

I was drinking some Dogfish Head 90 minute this past weekend.  And some Goose.  And some Crown.

I'll add a fourth.  And also note that the new Crown Royal - Cask No. 16 (whiskey aged in cognac casks) is out of this world good and well worth the $50 or so for the fifth.

What type of slumpbuster would do this to poor Pie?

"outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle."
