OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

A little internet hyperbole during a frustrating game and what do we get? The SKOPolice!

Thank the lord you are here to point out that "always" not only isn't a great word choice, but but WRONG FOR ALL TIME!!!  Because, if you hadn't pointed that out... the universe gets sucked down a giant black hole vortex into a singularity?

Chuck prefers to live in a world where half-baked, petulant, knee-jerk (and utterly wrong) opinions go unchecked.  His life would be infinitely less complicated as a result.

There are bad takes and bad takes.  Julie's "Always make bad pitchers look great" vs. Bayless' "Kobe's rape gave him sizzle" are two different levels of bad take. One should be sloughed off.  The other never should be forgotten and should disqualify a person from being in broadcasting.

I would say there's a comfortable middle ground of "one tweet pointing out how dumb that tweet was" in between "sloughed off" and "perpetually reminding a dude that he's a rape apologist".

I for one will be following Huey's crusade to make sure that no dumb comment on the internet go unchallenged with great interest.

So, I was looking at this and wondering, did Julie say something to you and I missed it?  Because this shit didn't just happen in a vacuum. Julie's got a lot of people who simply attack her reflexively for almost any comment, and as a result there are now a lot of people who will automatically jump to her defense for any perceived attack, regardless of your intent.

I mean, basically Huey and SKO are mad because if they randomly say something to Julie some other randos might yell at them.

My question is, why are they such crybabies?

I guess I feel like SKO does raise an interesting larger issue. Yes, Julie endures an unbelievable amount of unfair shit from people. But there have been times with her where I've thought about replying/arguing/discussing something and ended up X'ing out of the window. Whereas if Jesse Rogers had said the same thing, I wouldn't have thought twice about sending it. I'm not really sure that means, but it certainly means something.

As stupid as Jesse Rogers is, no one has probably told him they want to rape his corpse.

As someone who picks on a lot of people on the internet, I try to make sure my targets are men and usually in the media or purveyors of horrible blog content. Personally, I think it's poor form to go after women and teenagers. I am not perfect but that's my semi-rigid code.

BUT if you are feeling the need to correct Julie or anyone who's been attacked for stupid shit I would kindly suggest that you dont' quote RT her with your Actually. Just reply to her. The quote RT is most likely universally considered a provocation.

You can ignore pretty much everything I've said here but these are things that being on that stupid goddamn website so often have taught me.

Thank's

Christy Mathewson's book on pitching is available here as the free book of the day.  It's probably out of copyright anyway but I can't be arsed to check.

I hadn't thought about him in a while. Dying of tuberculosis at 45 is a raw deal.

Both Mathewson and Grover Cleveland Alexander were gassed in the Argonne forest in WWI.  So they not only shared the same # of career wins but essentially had their lives ruined by going off to fight.

God, fuck World War I so hard.

This wasn't a case of Corey Patterson continuing to swing like a power hitter year after year despite a slugging percentage that made you think "I didn't know Baseball Reference had a comp for Eddie Gaedel."

Even I haven't gone Eddie Gaedel on you guys.

Somewhat hackneyed metaphors notwithstanding, that was not actually totally unreadable.

Yeah I thought that was fine. Back to the regression therapy chambers for Eli.

So this is what it feels like to be Sterling.

Haven't we roasted this guy before? I feel like Eli is in the right here. This guy sucks.

Looking forward to today's game. If the Cubs lineup can be patient and wait out Liriano's bullshit and make him pay that'll be a nice sign of how much they've improved since last year.

as opposed to getting to 17 games over .500 about 3 months earlier than they did last year?

More "in addition to" than "opposed to", but thanks for your Time To Post reminder that the Cubs are really good and there's no need to really discuss anything in depth.

Since they had a .446 OPS against Liriano last year, I deem your initial post VALID.

So that's been fixed. What's next?

I think this weekend may have temporarily moved Pittsburgh ahead of St. Louis in my schadenfreude rankings. These fake tough guy assholes need can rot.

It's amusing. I guess the Cubs and Cards need to play 10-12 times in a month to see if this becomes a dual theater war. Right now, this Cubs-Pirates thing is getting pretty serious and I am really happy about that.

I remain convinced that these are just meatball Steelers fans who haven't figured out how to adjust to baseball yet because their response to literally fucking everything is just "HIT SOMEBODY, SHOW EM WE'RE TUFF"

I'm convinced it's the players on the Pirates that are driving this bus, and the fans are in line ready to ride with em. If the Pirates weren't so goddamn sore about getting dongwhipped across the midwest so far this year I doubt this becomes what it has. Long time Pirates fans are basically "Oh god the window is closing, ownership is still cheap, this rotation is a joke, etc."

Sucks their new window is "remember that year or two where we thought we could continue to compete with the Cubs before everything fell apart again."

And don't give me this Tallion and Glasnow shit. There's no way BOTH of them come up and immediately become Garrett Cole.

It's way too early to try and wrap my head around how Chuck argues on the Internet.

If the discussion is "Was Michael Barrett awful or was he serviceable" I think it's best if everyone just logs off. He obviously wasn't awful.

Zambrano disagreed.  Possibly my favorite thing Z ever did was beat the shit out of Barrett.

Late to the party. Barrett sucked. Chuck is the most correct he will ever be in his life. Back in 2007, Barrett played for two teams that played beyond Game 162. Check out those teams records in games in which Barrett started vs. games he did not play. The Barrett-less PadresCubs of 2007 make the 2016 Cubs look like maybe not the 1962 Mets, but maybe the 1991 Cleveland Indians.

Check out this mediocre offering from Bradt's blog nine years ago.

I remember when the Cubs had a great record with Koyie Dolan Hill and he sucked.

If it means winning more games, give me 25 Koyie Hills.

The point is it doesn't?

While not a HUGE ISSUE Clayton Richard is heading for firebarn territory. He's a nice story and seems like an easy guy to root for but get some outs for fuck's sake.

The Cardinal media is already talking about why Arrieta could end up in St. Louis. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so sad (on their part).

My second oldest son is a Giants' fan, and definitely not a Cub fan.  When Barry Bonds was an active player and an admitted steroid user, I gave my son a heavy ration of "he's a cheater" lectures.  My son now suggests that Arrieta's recent history suggests that there may be some chemical assistance in his conditioning program.  Say it ain't so, Jake

And you just let that happen? Say it ain't so, Stew.

Stew is too smart to let his son become a Cubs fan.
