OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Mom's Basement / The Conduit
May 04, 2010, 12:18:41 PM
I don't remember if anybody here owns a Wii, or if there's any chance they've played The Conduit, but if you have, do you have any opinions on it?  I had a phone interview with High Voltage Software yesterday and apparently did a good enough job bullshitting enthusiasm to get a design test.  I have to create a level (2D map, level description/walkthrough, and 3D demo) for The Conduit in about a week, and I've never played it.  I just bought the game and am borrowing a Wii from somebody, but if anybody has played it and has any opinions on it (specifically the levels), let me know.  I'm hoping I can make something that doesn't totally suck.

Boobtube / 24 - Day 8

It looks like the show is going right back to the same formula of seasons 1-6 after changing it slightly with season 7.  But the new CTU is hip and cool!  It's so cool, it looks like a night club, and Starbuck looks like a cocktail waitress.  As if the technology used in the previous seasons wasn't far-fetched enough, now it's so advanced that even Chloe can't keep up.  The CG backgrounds of New York look pretty terrible (they didn't shoot on-location), Freddy Prinze Jr. is a main character, and Elisha Cuthbert continues to not show her boobs.  It's going to be another great day with Jack Bauer.

Mom's Basement / MLB 10: The Show

Other than revealing that Joe Mauer is the new cover athlete, there's also a big article on ESPN detailing new features of the game.

I haven't read the entire thing, but I went through the section about the updates to Road to the Show, and it has fixed basically every single thing I thought needed to be fixed, including:

- You can now watch every single pitch/play/etc. throughout a game, as opposed to just when your player was up.
- That extends to fielding, where you can either watch every pitch (even on plays you're not involved in), or just the last pitch of the AB.  If you're a pitcher and get pulled from a game, you can watch the rest of it to see what happens.
- You now start in AA and have to earn an invite to spring training.
- There are specific training drills for fielding and pitching (both your base stats and pitch-specific stats).
- Your statistics against each player are now tracked throughout your entire career (awesome).
- They added the Home Run Derby and Futures Game.

There's also a whole new mode for catchers, new presentation, visiting team fans filling up stadiums (like when the Cubs play at Miller Park), and a more extensive online system.  The game sounds fucking awesome and I'm not even going to bother wasting my money on the 2K game this year.

The teaser trailer for EA's reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise was premiered at the VGAs last night:

Let's see how well they can copy each and every part of the Modern Warfare franchise.  At the very least, it looks pretty.

QuoteCommissioner Bud Selig plans to step down in 2012, reports Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribute.
Selig has been convinced to stay on as commissioner in years past, but sounds rather adamant that 2011 will be his final year. Not uncoincidentally, 2011 is also the year the new collective bargaining agreement needs to be struck. Selig will best be known for adding the Wild Card, interleague play, calling the 2002 All-Star Game as a tie and beginning the integration of instant replay into the game. Favorites to replace Selig are his right-hand men of Bob DuPuy and Rob Manfred along with Orioles general manager Andy MacPhail. Nov. 28 - 9:38 am et

It's a new flick from Peter Jackson and the director of a couple movies I've never heard of.  The movie's filled with no-name actors, but it looks like it could be pretty cool.

Mom's Basement / The Next Great Game?
December 04, 2008, 11:13:53 PM
No, not at all, but it's the game I've been working on for the past few months and will continue to work on through the spring for my senior project.  It's a game called Dismantle.Repair and is a multiplayer game where two teams download items in the game world that are converted into building blocks.  They then use the blocks to build up towers/bases to reach a certain height and win the game.  We're still in pre-production for it, and god only knows how it's going to turn out.  I was initially really turned off to the idea (we voted on it at the end of last semester between this, a design one of my friends made, and my co-op game design), but I think it could turn out pretty fun.  It's a pretty great learning experience, at least, and (hopefully) we'll have some sort of finished project by May.  I've been working on my own level for the past 8 hours or so.  I unfortunately spent way too much time making use of what few textures and shitty map editor software we have to make a couple buildings that really don't look very good, but are still better than what they probably should have looked like.

We'll probably be doing playtesting and stuff in the spring, so if any of you guys would be interested in maybe helping out someitme in the future, I might be able to send some stuff along.  At the very least, I'm sure you'll provide some overly brutal, yet very constructive criticism on the game.

Anybody else watch this show?  I've been watching it since it started last year and it's actually pretty awesome.  Maybe cause I'm a nerd and can therefore relate more, but still, it's good stuff.  The first season starts out a little formulaic but then it picks up quite a bit.  Zachary Levi seems like he'll be a star sometime soon, it has Jayne from Firefly (Adam Baldwin) and most importantly, it has Yvonne Strahovski:

Anybody else catch the premiere tonight?  It's the new J.J. Abrams show, for those who don't know.

I thought the pilot was pretty good.  The production values were off the chart.  Anna Torv plays the lead role, and while it was nice to see her stripped down to her bra and panties a couple times, the fact that she seemed to only be able to cue up a "nervous" expression on her face through about 90% of the show was a little annoying.  Charlie Conway was also decent, although a majority of the episode he was responding with unfunny one-liners to anything his dad said.  All-in-all, I think it should turn out to be a pretty good show.  I'd assume it will be filled with the usual Abrams twists and turns and half-truths about everything.

Even though it's in the incorrect section, this seems appropriate, as she appears to be all the rage(ing boner) right now:

And now the Desipio'd version:
