So I've only had the game two weeks and I've already seen a foul ball that bounced off the Moises Alou-Steve Bartman wall called a home run, and not one, but two inside-the-park homers in Pittsburgh because the CPU fielder can't seem to get around that corner in left center field to get the ball.  He just keeps running in place at the fence, since going around the corner would be too difficult.  The umpiring in general is pretty awful.  Wtf?

I haven't encountered the problems with the homerun calls.  I don't play with the Cubs.  But, I do play as the Pirates and I've never had that problem with a fielder running in place.  As far as the umpires go, there's a toggle in the sliders that can switch on/off how umpire's call a game.

I saw that error in PNC once. I was happy to have the run as my team fucking blows. No complaints.

There was one in Chase Field where the ball was hit down the left field line and bounced over the wall, but instead of being a ground rule double, the game apparently thought the ball was still in play, so it just stayed buried somewhere underneath the bleachers while the runner ran all the way home.

I've had very similar HR calls as that.  It wasn't right in the Bartman area, but it was just a few rows up and quite obviously a foul ball.  However, it was close enough to deserve a replay...but there was none.  The same thing happened on a ball in Fenway, when it was hit a good 30 feet (confirmed by the HR distance) short of the right field foul poul, in the stands.  That never happened for me until the latest update, but I'm not sure if there is any correlation between the two.

Anybody else download the demo yet?  I just played the Miami vs. Ohio State game.  It's been a while since I played NCAA 10, but this almost feels like an entirely new game.  The new lighting system is awesome, and the controls are super tight.  It feels like linebackers are a lot more sluggish than faster DBs, which is nice, so hopefully you won't see a bunch of swatted balls when the LB somehow jumps 5 feet in the air and knocks down a pass with their back to the ball.  Also, the new TeamBuilder is up and running:

Best Buy's GM told me they'd take the Elite back and give me the Slim. All is well.

'Splain more.  Gamestop is apparently doing a trade-in promotion.  Eh.  I don't know if it's really worth it.

For me, I can just return the Xbox under the return policy since I bought my Elite last week.

For Gamestop, those prices look pretty close to what I was quoted when I called them (which was on 6/15). I think he told me $167 (with the Edge card extras on the HD and the controller). I also didn't mention the wireless adapter which would have netted me a bit more. I guess it would have jumped up to $200. Anyway, if you have a few games you wouldn't mind parting with, then you can do that. See if you can get to at least $250 or so. Reason I say that price is because that bundle they're selling with Kinect. Once you get over $250, then the difference you have to pay will be less than buying the Kinect outright.

One thing to consider is how you would buy the new xbox and still get your data onto the new one. They are saying the old data transfer cables will work, but that's useless if you trade your xbox + HD in to Gamestop, since they'll have it. I don't know if Gamestop will be offering people the chance to move all their data, but it's something to consider. I've also read that you can transfer your information to a USB drive and then move it over to the new Xbox.

You won't actually get the Kinect with that new Xbox.  The system is just "compatible" with it, meaning you don't need a separate power adapter just for the Kinect hardware.  You'll still have to spend $150 on it when it come out in September or whenever.

I think I already hate Kinect.  I really hope MS doesn't start churning out a bunch of gimmicky mini-games like Nintendo.  The games they show in the video on Xbox.com look like tech demos.  Boo.

I'm sure they will mostly be tech demos at the beginning, just like Wii Sports (which was still a lot of fun for a while).  But how awesome is it going to be to be able to use Minority Report controls for all of the menus?  Now I can just swipe my hand to fast-forward through episodes of "Say Yes to the Dress" on Netflix.

I was just thinking about this today...  well, the next generation console coupled with a 3D HDTV...  That would be a totally surreal experience.  I think I'm just going to pay off my student loans and wait for that.  I think that would just about own my soul (even though I am currently stuck in the purgatory of old Xbox games).

I still think 3D is retarded, at least for video games.  It's mostly gimmicky, and except for maybe the Nintendo 3DS, there is absolutely no way to design a game that actually implements 3D in any way other than making images pop out. For movies, fine, they can make it look like the poop is flying off the screen.  But if you're designing a game, and want 3D to actually matter, then you have be guaranteed your entire audience has the technology, and that won't happen for a long, long time.

If you're having problems with your 360, hold out a bit longer and buy the new model:

Too late

Talked to Gamestop. I can trade in the Elite and a few games and get up to around $270 and then buy the bundle with Natal.. Put me out an extra $130... So, I'll get a new system with a bigger hard drive and the Natal for less than what it would have been to buy the Natal. Plus, I have a friend that'll buy the old 120 GB HD from me for $30-40..

Will that price still be around by the time the Kinect comes out, though?  I'd imagine the model you have (as well as the games) will see a big price drop after another month or two, so I'm guessing that $270 would be only if you pre-order the Slim/Kinect bundle.

I'm not sure. I assume I can get the sexbox right away and get Kinect later. I'm going to take the games to them tomorrow. Just to ensure the price. The $270 is going to be trade-in value. I do have a friend who may buy my Elite/controller/Wireless adapter for a little more than GS will give me.

Good call on getting them traded now.  I'm sure it's just the slim 360 you'll be buying, though.  The Kinect will still cost $150 when it's released.  But even still, getting that new 360 for only $50 or however much it'll cost is pretty awesome.

Gamestop has their bonus 50% on trade-ins (60% w/EDGE card) for at least this weekend, and I think through next week. I just traded in Final Fantasy XIII and Zelda: Spirit Tracks to get a used copy of Alan Wake for $5. If you have a bunch of games to trade in, now is the time to do it.

Link?

I'm not sure exactly what else there is you need to know, but here.

So the wife is leaving the country for a few weeks with the kid before I head over there to meet up. In the meantime I'm going to be getting very high and playing lots of Xbox when I'm not out getting shitfaced.

We'll have to try that posse stuff again. I want to get those achievements.

I'm in. I got some rockstar achievement last night. It's one of those you get by killing someone with that achievement, so if any of you play with me, you can kill me once to get it.

How do you get it in the first place then?  Do you have to be playing in a game with a Rockstar employee?

I'd accept several years of awful baseball in return for a World Series.

At least Cubs pitchers haven't come close enough to a perfect game this year to get robbed of one.

That whole thing played out way better than it very likely could have.  Galarraga was unbelievably cool about the blown call, and Jim Joyce sounded like he was about to cry when he was talking after the game.
