OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Fucken deadbeat Cubs. Unbelievable. I had hoped to make my 1908 offering a victory lap post three weeks from now. I had some witty BS to write up, but now I just don't have the energy. Meh.

Love the site, been around almost since the beginning. Hope I haven't pissed off people TOO often, and if so, sorry about that. Maybe I got some laughs going a few times, too. Say what you will about my online persona, but I'm actually a pretty fun guy once you get a few beers in me. And I do love this goddamn team, so we've all got that in common at least.

Someone asked about my username awhile ago. My first Cubs game my grandfather took me on the train from Galesburg, we got in the park as soon as it opened to see batting practice, hound the players, etc... I got two autographs that day, one from Ernie and one from...Paul Popovich. So there you go.

Out.

Now you know why Zambrano doesn't merit a splooge thread; because half the time, he deserves a fuck-you thread, instead. Z has become an all-or-nothing guy the last two years, he might be the highest variance SP in the league.

I don't trust that consistency at all in a short series, I hope Lou makes Dempster his #1 for the playoffs, Demp has been the most consistent starter this season.

You have a mental illness and I feel sorry for you.

Good luck.  Seriously.

Goddammit, what is your fucking problem, bitch? Enough is enough, you feel the need to attack people on this site due to some fucking agenda or whatever, most people came here to talk about, rave about, and yes, bitch about, the Cubs. I don't come here to get attacked with every damn post I make from some fuckhead with a Cardinals logo for god's sake.

Where did I say anything about some fucking pussy named "Mike D" in my post? But that's OK, you can begin ranting on someone without provocation, and I'm sure some of your like-minded little bitches can be nice and smarmy and jump in, too.

You want to play personal games, fine, that's what the other thread is for. Otherwise, keep it out of other threads on a CUBS FAN SITE, is that so damn hard for you? ASSHOLE.

Could someone post the link to the Zambrano "Fantastico" video again? Thanks.

I didn't think it was possible, but after the South Side Bitches, I think I may hate the Trolls more than any other team, even the Cardinals. Fuck the Trolls and Drayton McLane's Big Fat Wallet.

Lost in the hoopla: isn't it true that tonight, Zambrano has set a major-league record by getting a hit in 14 consecutive starts?

#7
This was so fucking cool. I saw Hooten and Pappas' no-hitters, and one of Holtzman's, but the excitement was nothing like this. Fucken fantastico, indeed.

Incredibly, the Phillies lost too, so the Cubs lost no ground to the two teams that matter most. Though I note from my perch far out on this ledge that the Cards are now just a half-game back of Philly, and the Astros one game back.

A couple of wins here would be helpful, guys.

Marquis is overpaid for what he brings, but maybe he should be viewed in context. The guy is a 500 pitcher, 190 IP, high 4's ERA, double digit wins year in and year out. For a #5 pitcher, that's pretty damn acceptable. I don't like his smirky attitude, and sure, I'd rather have a Johan Santana as my 5th starter than a Marquis de Suck. But objectively, he's probably one of the top 5 #5 pitchers in baseball. Nothing wrong with that. And he will never start a post-season game barring injuries, so he can't hurt the team when it counts in October.

He kind of looks like Mark Cuban a bit, too, just noticed that.

Probably right PPE.

We are a greedy lot.

A decade or so ago Marquis would've been our #2 behind Jose Guzman

There were times in the early 80s when he would have been the ace of the staff. Yes, the Cubs have been VERY bad in the past.

He can also hit, run, bunt and fields his position better than any other guy on the staff. He just isn't the balls and considering that the other four starters are capable of delivering a masterpiece any given start, the fact that we have to brace ourselves and hope he keeps the team in it when he starts is such a letdown that we may be harder on him than he deserves. The lousy son of a bitch.

Not to quibble, but he doesn't hit his position best, that would be Carlos. And he doesn't bunt the best, that would be Dempster. But overall he's not such a total slug, I agree. He's just mediocre, and I can identify with that. True story.

More pearls of wisdom from Johnnie B. Baker Jr.

http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/pro/reds/2008/08/19/ddn081908spreds.html

QuoteWhat does that make the Reds? Spoilers, er, potential spoilers.

"This is very beneficial because we plan on being in that race next year," said Baker, sipping from his large mug of liquid optimism. "The guys who have never been there think they know what it is all about or think they can handle it. But you don't know until you get there. The importance, the pressure.

"You get a taste of it and think, 'This is what we want. This is what we need.' It is a long road to get there, into a pennant race. A lot of our young guys can get a taste of what that long and up-and-down road is all about."

Christ this guy is certifiable. Why the hell do teams keep giving this numnuts a job? Not that I'm complaining now that he's another team in the Central.

Where's the old thread with all the "Dustyisms" in it? I couldn't find it with search.

As bad as the Brewers and Cards pens have been, the Mets have been just as bad.

Spicoli fractures his Mr. Hand.

http://www3.signonsandiego.com/news/2008/jul/31/greene-fractures-hand-may-be-out-season/

QuoteSAN DIEGO — As the Padres feared, shortstop Khalil Greene fractured his left hand on Wednesday night when he slammed a storage chest at Petco Park in frustration over his seasonlong slump.

Greene's return for this season is doubtful, according to the club.

Greene said after the 7-3 defeat to the Diamondbacks that he was in "excruciating pain" after fouling a ball off his shin during the seventh inning. After the at-bat ended with Greene's 100th strikeout, Greene went to clubhouse tunnel. There, Greene said, his frustration got the best of him and he drove his left hand into a storage chest.

Greene said the response was more in reaction to a difficult season than his throbbing shin. He is batting .213 with 10 home runs and 15 doubles.

"I don't know how to put into words the frustration level, how difficult this year has been," Greene said. "For me to do that, it's certainly not commonplace."

I know it's not the NL Central, but I didn't think it was worth a new thread.

The dummies at the 4-letter site were actually advocating the Cubs make a trade for Chip's boyfriend. I'm surprised they didn't make a unicorn avatar for the guy.

Wow, Marquis can't even get the ubiquitous Jason Michaels and Andy LaRoche out...and another Marquis HBP scores.  And Jack Wilson ropes an RBI single too.

Seriously, Marquis' career as a Cub needs to be euthanized after this outing.

Again, not fair. Marquis may be a joke compared to the Cubs' other 4 starters, but he gives up 3 runs in 6 IP, there's nothing wrong with that for a #5 starting pitcher. Problem of course is that once again, for the umpteenth time the last five years, an absolute nobody pitcher faces the Cubs and they can't hit squat off of him. Future Cy Young winner Jeff Karstens, um, yeah.

This got me laughing though, so true if you've ever been to the East Coast during summertime. Can't we just nuke these fucken people?
