OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

but really though it's great that he's hitting because he's an eminently likeable dude and the skillset of Good Jason Heyward is exactly the thing this offense has missed at times, which is, y'know, why they signed him in the first place.

I like him a ton - and I'm glad he's finally hitting. But, I mean, they're still paying 28 million to a guy projected to hit 25 doubles, 7 triples, and 9 homers this season.

I don't give a shit how much of a billionaire's money he's making and they can afford it. People always want to point at under-performing free agents on big contracts as some kind of horrible burden on the team while ignoring that Kris Bryant makes like, 1/100th of his actual value on his current contract. If Heyward's an above-average hitter overall with his defense and base-running he's a 4+ win player. That's why they signed him, and if you go by the accepted 1 Win=8 millionish valuation that fangraphs uses a 4 win player would be worth 32 million on the open market, so he's a bargain then.

His velocity is fine, better than it was at this point last year before he was DL'd and his fastball was dipping down to 84 sometimes. He's consistently 87-89, even touched 90 once in his last start.

As for his changeup if you believe Fangraphs pitch weights his changeup has been even better than last year.

There appear to be two issues: he's throwing his curveball more, which he talked about in spring as something he was working on, but his curveball appears to be very, uh, shitty, and his fastball has gone from a positive value pitch to a negative value pitch, almost entirely because he doesn't appear to be locating it as well as he normally does. That was obviously the issue last night when he just inexplicably lost command of it.

He's fine physically is my guess, his mechanics are a little out of whack. I never understand how to actually read the release point charts on here but what is obvious is that his release points are definitely not where they were especially during the second half last year. He's had stretches like this before and was actually worse in the first half last year than he's been this year. He's been better in the second of half of every season he's been a Cub.

He's gonna be fine. Stop being panicky dipshits. Do you ungrateful sacks of shit not remember what it looked like when Carlos Zambrano struggled?! If a 6th inning meltdown raising your ace's first half era+ to a mere 11% better than league average still is enough to cause panic in these parts I'd say you're just entitled babies.

Bumped to point out that JHey currently has an OPS higher than Ballgame, Bodie, the Colonel, 1060 and JIMMY BUTTHOLE, and is only .003 behind BRONZE BITS.  In short, he's an actual productive member of a major league outfield.  I heartily, heartily positive this.

What if he just died? He could just die and that'd be great. Just never bother me again

What if he did die, and they found someone that looks a lot like Jason Heyward and can actually hit a baseball? Never thought of that one, did ya

Jon Lester fucking owns.

Also to Joe's credit I don't think he'd ever do whatever the fuck Roberts was doing last night when he decided with a runner on third and no out to walk the guy who has struck out 29% of the time in his career and go after the guy who strikes out half that much and is hitting .325

If Morrow isn't hurt Joe can go fuck himself forever.

Joe does not have to fuck himself forever.

For now.

fuck this dude. I don't even care if he's managed to wiggle out of jams for a month, a 20% walk rate is garbage and was obviously going to catch up with him

Long time listener, rare poster...

Headed to STL with the family (3 that are 6 or younger) to sweat it out this weekend.  Actually attempting to go to the game on Friday night.  Any tips to Busch Stadium with kids?  This will be my first (most likely only) time to a game in STL.

We found out that we can bring in water/snacks for them.  I saw there's a family area where I'm hoping they can burn some energy before we head to our seats. Assume just park in one of the lots/garages near the stadium?

Any recs on family friendly stuff on Saturday?  We're going to do the zoo in the morning before the heat hits its peak.  We're staying out in St. Charles.  Looking at Salt and Smoke for dinner Saturday night, but open to suggestions if you guys have any (doing hot dogs at the stadium with the kids on Friday night).

TIA!

There's a children's museum in St. Louis that is fun. In all honesty their ballpark is really nice and accessible and well designed. The ballpark village they built is chaotic as hell, though, I wouldn't want to take kids in there.

Normally I wouldn't get too excited about a guy with a .760 OPS and a WRC+ of 106, but here we are.

Nice work, Chili. Now fix KB.

I will take a 106 wRC+ with Heyward's defense and baserunning for sure, but even better is that he's hitting .307/.366/.465/.831 against RHP. Considering Schwarber is currently boasting a .323/.447/.387/.834 line vs LHP and they have Almora/Zobrist/Happ etc they don't really need to start Heyward vs lefties, just let him keep raking as the long side of a platoon with Happ in RF.

Throw fucking strikes already.

C'mon man.  I mean, I get it - it's fucking frustrating.  But there's clearly something going on here - a mechanical issue or mental issue which is precluding him from "throwing strikes already".  He's not nibbling, he's all over the fucking shop.  When he does throw strikes he's reasonably effective so you don't think the Cubs have told him to do it more?  You don't think he's trying to do it more?

I mean doesn't "c'mon now, he's trying" apply to every player we have ever complained about on this messageboard? I wouldn't boo the guy in person because he obviously cares and is trying but venting on a dark corner of the internet about a guy suffering Stage 1 Ankiel Disease should probably be allowed.

seven walks in 4.2 innings. seven.

Stealing second, then taking third because the shift for Rizzo left the bag uncovered.

He is just so fucking good at everything.

He's currently stuck in one of the longest homerless streaks of his career, 18 games. It has lowered his OPS to a pathetic...uhhh... .918. He's so fucking good that's the floor.
