OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Oh. OH. And as if all that wasn’t enough, the end credits roll to an obnoxious pop song that’s trying way too hard to convince you that the singer is a “badass woman.” Clearly the hope was this immediately forgettable tune with off-the-shelf “empowerment” lyrics would turn into some kind of anthem. I looked it up afterward and, of course, it was written and recorded by Meghan Trainor. Which is actually the most inspired choice of the entire movie because her cloying brand of white corporate feminism couldn’t be more on-point. I like to think Beyonc? was approached first, took one look at a pre-release cut, and left without saying a word.

Absolutely awful. The plot makes no sense and careens from one scene to another without bothering to explain how or why it got there, Hathaway is a wet mop with no charisma, the ending pretty much smashes the half-assed “yay women” marketing conceit to bits, and all of the characters are either paper-thin plot devices or exceedingly unlikeable caricatures without a single redeeming quality among them.

It’s an absolute disaster and the worst movie I’ve seen in a theatre since The Happening. This is a comedy in name only. I chuckled at a few of Rebel Wilson’s lines (“I’m salad-intolerant” to a waiter) and nothing else. One review said they laughed out loud at a wordplay joke involving a hotel room so I’ll save you the $17: we briefly see a placard on the door of a hotel room in France that says “Suite Caroline.” That’s it. That’s the joke. The Hustle, everyone!

Fuck the Ricketts for putting together such a cheap-ass piece of shit excuse for a bullpen.  They're getting exactly what they deserve, this week especially.

Christian Bergman scouting report: Christian Bergman pitches like a position player.

Intrepid Reader: Tony Ballgame

Hey!

It's okay when you are a position player. It's not when you're a pitcher! Or "pitcher."

Who is that guy doing the audio for Cub games on MLB TV?  He sounds like he is 14 years old.  What happened to the crew who did the games for WGN?

I don't know who he is either, but during last night's game he informed us that not only did David Bote have two walk-offs last year, but he hit them both when the Cubs were behind!

You can't hit a walk-off with your team tied?

It doesn't make much difference, does it?  Your team's not winning, and then all of a sudden, you win!

Sorry to split hairs here, ole mate, but I've gone on some Twitter crusades about announcers failing to make the distinction between a walk-off hit and a lead-changing walkoff hit.  It actually makes quite a bit of difference in that in one case you're about to lose the game but in the other there's no such risk.  Lead-changing walkoff homers are far more exciting than walkoffs that occur when a game is tied, in my humblest of opinions.

Also, do we know for a fact that Bote even hit 2 lead-changing walkoff homers?   I know the granny off Ryan Madson was a lead-changing shot, but I don't think his other one was.  I'm pretty sure I'd remember it if it was because, as I've just demonstrated, I'm pretty goddamn vigilant in recognizing the difference (and goddamnit, Tonker should be too).

Mike D. is right. The other came a couple weeks after his "golden" slam against the Reds with the score tied 2-2.

Also, of note: this game in which he hit a 1-out, 2-run homer to tie the game at 6. Rizzo followed with the walkoff homer.

His other homers were a 3-run shot in an 9-0 trouncing of the Reds, a 2-run homer in an 8-2 decision at Detroit, and a solo shot in a 5-2 win against Detroit.

The Cubs were 6-0 in games in which Bote homered.

Bote also walked a walk-off in July against the Reds.

Don't forget, Bote also walked off a cliff once the calendar turned August.

Shows what I know, huh?

Yeah.  Me too.  Apparently the movie didn't come up to Spike Lee's standards.

Why would it? It was Viggo for best lead actor, Mahershala Ali for best supporting. That should tell you who the film is actually aimed at. At least BlacKkKlansman centers a black man in the story instead of having a cartoon stereotype of a white guy literally driving the whole movie. Oh and there's also the whole part about Don Shirley's family saying they weren't even consulted and the supposed true story depicted in the film is full of shit. The guy who wrote it said he wasn't even aware Shirley's family existed, which is fucking embarrassing and should immediately render the movie's factual content as suspect. The movie was aimed squarely at Academy voters who want to make a nice feelgood statement on race without concerning themselves with the uglier details.

What a surprise, that the son of the white guy made his racist but well meaning dad the hero when he wrote the screenplay. When he wasn't busy thirst-tweeting our big dumb president in support of his latest racist rant, that is. If I were Spike Lee I'd probably be pissed off that "White People Solve Racism, Again" beat "An Actual Story About Black Lives" for anything and, just to add further insult, is being hailed by (white) critics as a stirring portrait of race, too. Maybe we're not the best ones to judge Lee's reaction!

Please tell me you didn't love Crash...

Geez, man...why don't you relax, pour yourself a drink, and watch a feel-good movie like "The Help"?

I laughed.
