OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

This team is absolutely unwatchable right now.  It's quite apparent that management from the front office, to the dugout, have long overstayed their welcome.  With the dead money tied up in Darvish, Chatwood, Heyward, and Morrow, this team is unfixable in the short term, and quite possibly for the next 2 - 3 years.  And to think, with that money, they could have Jake and Harper.  Two guys that actually would contribute to winning.

Add in what they've traded away for trash like Quintana, and this team is in a far, far worse position than it should be.  It's going to be a long season.

And then what happened?

I thought I'd just point out that Jay Electronica is on tour this year and if his planned appearance in the Netherlands is anything to go by, he's playing small venues - "Bitterzoet" in Amsterdam is tiny - capacity of a couple of hundred, max.  He's playing the Promontory on 31st May.

Oh, man, I can't believe he's dead. It was only the other day they said they were taking him off life support!

QuoteI, for one, am glad that the Cubs urgently locked up their *checks notes* utility infielder for *checks notes again* SIX FUCKING YEARS FROM NOW rather than doing anything about the SHITTY FUCKING BULLPEN THAT, FIVE GAMES INTO THE SEASON, HAS COUGHED UP THREE GAMES ALREADY.

Hey, who am I?

QuoteCome on, man - we're three games into the season.  Yeesh.

Yes, because my post was absolutely 100% serious.

CUBS SIGN 5-YEAR EXTENSION WITH RIGHT-HANDED-HITTING, BEARDED THIRD BASEMAN WEARING A JERSEY NUMBER IN THE TEENS WHOSE LAST NAME STARTS WITH B!

I'm really looking forward to David Bote still being on the team when KB, Tony Ballgame, Javy and Schwarbs have all moved on without winning another WS because CJF EDWARDS, TYLER CUNTWOOD and MIKE MONTFUCKINGGOMERY.

It's hard to put together a pitching staff that has the ability to lose 100 games but the Cubs appear to have done so.

Come on, man - we're three games into the season.  Yeesh.

Sometimes I think "Meh. The Cubs have spent next-to-nothing this offseason; there are holes in the outfield, and in the middle infield, and in the pen and maybe at backup catcher; the players have got fat (and not just BMIaez) and happy and they don't really want it any more; Joe's schtick is wearing seriously thin and he's probably only got this one more season in him so if it doesn't start well it sure as hell won't end well; and the Tards picked up a couple of nice players and will probably be better this year than they were last."

But then I think "OPENING MOTHERFUCKING DAY YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!", and I get a bit of a chub and I love the Cubs all over again,  and everything's all right with the World.

So.

Opening.  Motherfucking.  Day.  Fuck St. L*uis, fuck the D*odgers, fuck the M*ts, fuck that fat fuck Jesus Aguilar.  Go Cubs.

Who is that guy doing the audio for Cub games on MLB TV?  He sounds like he is 14 years old.  What happened to the crew who did the games for WGN?

I don't know who he is either, but during last night's game he informed us that not only did David Bote have two walk-offs last year, but he hit them both when the Cubs were behind!

You can't hit a walk-off with your team tied?

It doesn't make much difference, does it?  Your team's not winning, and then all of a sudden, you win!

Don't get me wrong, this is a thoroughly enjoyable movie.  Mortensen is fantastic as he hams his way through every Italian American trope you can think of, and the whole thing is enormously heartwarming.  It's entertainment first and foremost, though, and although the film scratches the surface of some very serious issues it never intends to actually get its hands dirty.  There's no real menace from the racists - certainly not by comparison with "Mississippi Burning", for instance; homosexuality and alcoholism are picked up and then discarded without ever actually exploring either issue; and you never have any real doubt that it's all going to turn out nice.  The entire Tonk family enjoyed the hell out of it but it's some guys in a movie, nothing more, nothing less.  Oscar-worthy?  Meh.  Maybe?  Greatest film of all time?  Not on your Nelly.

... I may have the Tuvan one on a CD somewhere, but the Inuit throat singing is drawing me in.

It took me a few seconds to notice the melody - I knew I was hearing two sounds but my brain didn't isolate the top line - but when I did... well, that's fucking amazing.

I have seen this before, although it was called "overtone singing".  This girl makes some really astonishing noises.
