OK, I have somehow been delivered a manuscript with figures that were prepared at poster size (10 feet wide, 72 dpi). The problem is that these are actually going to be delivered at about 21 pica width. Is there a heuristic for an optimal dpi when rescaling? It's a combination of line art and color scale; I'm not really happy with the line art at 600 dpi, and I really don't know why the fuck I'm bothering instead of just spiking the things and telling them to put the thing together themselves instead of taking a coconut break.

I had a case representing a university professor who was denied tenure.  I had to learn what "heuristic" meant.  That was about 8 years ago.  I have since forgotten.

Now try and tell everyone that you don't know what hermeneutic means.

Yeah.  I had to learn that one also.  But trust me.  I have forgotten it.

Does anyone out there have a cassette player and can transfer something from some tapes into a digital format?

I just moved and found a couple of sportz related gems.  Well, one absolute gem and another cool something.

Sheesh, now you ask. I might be able to hook something up. Or you could shell out 25 bucks. (In the latter case, I have a fantastic Jonathan Richman 1986 Holstein's show that needs preservation.)

[Edit.--Or six bucks.]

You really might be better off with the cheaper option. I imagine the transport is dreadful (then again, it could be the very same one in both), but it is an all-analog channel. You can always turn out an MP3 after the fact.

But then I imagine I'd need some sort of a weird audio out to USB cable, no?

Not on the good one.  However, I'm inferring that it's possible to do the transfer via the mic jack...cool.  Thanks.

Maybe. Some sound cards will let you use a mic jack as a line in.

Better still if you have a dedicated line in.

If you have either of the above: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I don't have anyone at the moment, but had luck using the car talk forums. Lets you search by zip code and make of car.

I was literally going to link the same exact thing.  Don't they also have golden wrenches for quality shops?
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.
