If Sweden can beat Finland by less than 5 goals or take the game to extra time, the US will be sitting pretty at the 1 seed, waiting to face the winner of Belarus–Switzerland.

With the 2 seed, it would be the winner of Slovakia–Norway, followed (God willing) by the winner of Russia–Canada/Germany. Which I'd just as soon they avoid.

Heja sverige.

Excellent. I'd like to avoid Slovakia just so I don't have to cheer against the Sad Panda. That is, assuming they'll handily beat Norway and VIKINGSTAD.

I see that TORE VIKINGSTAD plays professionally for the SCORPIONS.

If he doesn't shoot fire from his dick, I'm not sure what we're even doing here.

I'm still just waiting to run into Oleg barechested save for a woolly vest.

So I totally missed this game due to the fact that it was on MSNBC and I didn't have time to figure that out. I was at a bar around midnight last night and there was a dude in an Iginla, Canada shirt putting money in the juke box. He played Bare Naked Ladies and Johnny B. Good. Wot? Anyway I asked the dude who won the game and he just stared at me and said, "Are you fucking shitting me?" I assumed that meant that the USA had dominated yet another shitty country for no other reason than we can because we're the fucking USA.

So, hell yeah.

Speed kills and the U.S. has more of it than Canada does.

Ryan Fucking Miller stood on his head too. That kinda helped.

I don't like when they show the medal standings because they count all the medals as the same.

I think they should scale them:
Gold = 5
Silver = 3
Bronze = 1

And for the Woman's medals:
Gold = 3
Silver = 1
Bronze = 0.1

I am not a fan of the White people's Olympics, nor am I a hockey fan.  However, I found last night's game to be very intense, especially the final five minutes.  Who knows?  Maybe I will watch more of this stuff.

Stew, I think your TV is still set at 1936.

Oleg is watching his Olympics from a Harry Turtledove alternate reality where Hitler got the A-bomb.

Sorry, in a Winter Olympics 2010 thread I was crazy enough to think we were discussing the Winter Olympics.

Laying some sort of a trap in in the weeds for Huey, Thrill'd?
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

If you've seen Contact, you know that the 1936 Summer Games (with Jesse Owens) were the first Olympics broadcast on television.

To be fair, when I got the idea for the response, I was thinking about the Summer Games.  Then before posting, I decided to Wikipedia to the '36 Winter Games.  And, here we are.

Besides, Chuck, having seen Contact and remember details from the awful movie are two different things.
