OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

So is anyone getting the Evo? Seems like a much cheaper option than the iphone.
Would be interested in a review if so.

I have it right in front of me now.  Going to activate it.  stay tuned. . . .

Though, to be fair, TDubbs just asked the shoutbox what 4G is and why he has to pay $10 a month for it.

So... grain of salt.

It's awesome.  Get it.

A friend of mine got it and it's awesome, but fucking huge.  How the hell can you keep that in your pocket?

I can't imagine it's much bigger than an iPhone.  And it's skinny enough that it doesn't feel bulky when in my pocket, and I don't ever wear pleats.

How often you have to charge this bad boy? How is the 4G network so far, in terms of call quality (especially indoors) and dropped calls?

bump.

I got the Hero for $140 less than the Evo (shit, now it's $170 less - don't forget to go through Bing to get $50 cashback as well). Plan is also $10/month less than the Evo - $70/month for unlimited everything. I also have never had a smartphone so I don't have much of a reference point, but it's a great phone. Internet is fast, operating system is easy to use, my husky fingers are already used to the virtual keyboard after a couple days, and you can watch Friday Night Lights and NFL stuff in surprisingly good quality. I had a problem with the battery draining too fast but after some internet problem solving it's good to go.

I notice that the EVO takes forever to charge.  My old phone could be dead and then fully charged in like an hour or so.  This one has about a quarter of battery left and it takes an hour and a half or more to charge.  I don't know if all smartphones are like this, though, but it's one negative that I have noticed.

The Droid does this as well.  The time from 90% charge to 100% charge seems like forever.

Oddly enough, on mine the time from 100% back down to 90% is ridiculously quick.

No, really, I'm on a shared plan with my parents. They are satisfied with their phones so I'm going to, as the AT&T guy said, "provision their upgrade" onto my line. Easy as sweet pecan pie. No issues with them having to have internet because the iPhone requires it. It will all count as my phone.

Gotcha.  I checked online and was told I was eligible for an upgrade at a "discount," but not the full reduced price. Apparently I have to visit a store to get the actual pricing, which I'm sure is steep.

Yea. When I called, he said that I was eligible for the "early upgrade" price of $400.00 for the 16GB, which is probably $200.00 lower than the retail price. And I just upgraded 6 months ago. I figure anyone with an existing contract is eligible.

Preordering an iphone is exactly like buying Cubs tickets the day they went onsale.  Except there's no virtual waiting room and multiple windows doesn't help.  The error screen immediately after getting through is intact, however.

Didn't have this issue at all last year ...

Did you get yours or did you fall victim to them selling out of the preorders

Quotebut the second-largest U.S. carrier said it has sold out of its allotment of first-day preorders for the iPhone 4.

That makes me think they'll be able to sell more tomorrow, but I don't know. The article also claims that you can still purchase them, and they'll be shipped at a later date, but I've yet to see this on the Apple.com store or the AT&T site.. AT&T says sold out and Apple says "We were unable to complete set up online. To finish creating your account, you'll need to visit an Apple Retail Store where we can help you in person."

I got through to Apple around 8 AM, so I'm good.  I finally got an email confirmation tonight, and it says it is to be delivered on the 24th.  I qualified for the best pricing and sold my 3GS on Gazelle for $325 in Amazon credit -- $293 for the phone in perfect condition, with a 5% bonus code and another 5% more for taking the credit.  And I have until the 11th to get it to them.  Works for me better than Craigslist -- financial transactions with random people aren't really my thing.

Yea. Craigslist is shit. You're likely to have some lady in Utah wanting to buy it and have you send it to her movie star friend shooting a movie in Africa or someone in Paris who's on a business trip who wants you to send it there. Or a Nigerian prince. Definitely one of those three..

Anyway, I was able to buy it about 30 minutes after bitching about them "selling out". So, all is right in Yeti's world. Now I just need to find the right case/cover for it. I'll be damned if I break this phone with my clumsy ass.
