First Boogaard and Rypien, now Wade Belak...

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/08/31/ex-leafs-enforcer-belak-found-dead

QuoteTORONTO - Former Toronto Maple Leafs winger-defenceman and enforcer Wade Belak was found dead in his downtown Toronto condo Wednesday, sources say.

He is the latest in a line of several NHL pugilists who died over the past decade from unusual circumstances including suicide, alcohol and drug abuse.

Belak killed himself, according to sources.

Toronto Police refused comment after being called to the condo at 1 King St. W., where a man's body was found.

Belak, 35, who was just signed on for the popular Battle of the Blades reality TV show, was found dead around 1:33 p.m., the source said.

He hanged himself, according to a source.

Quite the off-season.

Wonder what Belak was thinking when he heard about these two death and if he was planning this before those things happened. Whether they affected his decision to go through with it one way or the other.

Sad.

By all accounts, Belak was a level-headed guy in good spirits.

I'll wait to hear if this was more Michael Hutchence and less Derek Boogaard.

He was an enforcer his entire career, yet this was only the third time he was suspended.

First time he was ever on a strong line.

Is Hutchence still the consensus go-to cultural reference here, or has Fork just not caught up with the David Carradine era?

I think Hutchence is funnier, personally.

Though I didn't go as far to invoke Suicide Blonde when discussing Belak because if these rumors are true, it wasn't a suicide at all.

So tonight a couple of articles are published at around the same time. One saying Belak's mother claims he was depressed and another saying a friend says Belak took a keen interest in Rick Rypien's suicide.

I can't say what his mom knew or didn't know but I can say that everyone involved in hockey took interest in Rypien's death. It's not at all surprising that Rypien did. You know who else did? Henrik Sedin. So if Henrik decides to kill himself at some point can we point back to the keen interest he showed in another hockey player's death?

Retarded.

I'm guessing that Pat Foley will not be called to do the euology
Andre Dawson paid his $1,000 fine for the Joe West incident with style. Dawson wrote ``Donation for the blind`` in the memo section of his personal check.

Alexander Karpovtsev looks for any excuse not to play.
