The Cubs newest light hitting shortstop will debut tonight against the Diamondbacks at Wrigley. He joins a long line of ace sixes going back to Ivan DeJesus, Larry Bowa, Paul Noce, Dave Owen, Jose Vizcaino, Ricky Gutierrez, Alex Gonzalez (the one not nicknamed Sea Bass), Tom Veryzer, Domingo Ramos, Rey Ordonez, Ramon Martinez (the one who isn’t Pedro’s big brother) and others too numerous to mention.
Ideally, Cesar’s impact will be better than Jeff Blauser (how could it be worse) and almost as good as Shawon Dunston. (Honestly, when you’re just praying for an approximation of the production from the standard bearer of unrealized potential, your sights are set pretty low.)
What we know is that the guys at Dodger Blues, who never like anybody, liked Cesar. For now, that’s good enough for me.
pizza pizza!
neifi neifi!
nothing will EVER be as good as Dunston!
Reading that article made me feel a hell of a lot better.
So, like, did Donuts make a good move? I’m confused…
Did Tsuris actually watch his forst Wrigley triple into a double?
You know you want some crazy bread…we all do.
Dodgers have loved Izzy for a long time. Don’t completely understand why, but he was definitely a crowd favorite, despite the soft bat. If he just had some decent OBP, he’d actually be a darn fine pickup for the Cubs. He’s got the speed, average and defense end of things covered.
My big concern is Pierre, Izzy, and whomever at 2B next year, them’s three mighty weak bats. To compensate, Hendry really needs to bring in two mashers at the corner OF spots. Jones and Murton ain’t gonna cut it.
You can win with Juan and Cesar at the top of your order (of course, it’d be easier to win with Juan at the top and Cesar in the 8 hole), but only if you upgrade the offense in left, right and second. I’m sure Hendry has a plan to try to upgrade in left (it’s called throw a pile of money at Carlos Lee), but Cedeno barely hits well enough to play short, much less second, and Jock has fewer RBIs this season than the great Phil Nevin.
But I guess only a racist would point something like that out.
So the concensus that I’ve heard from almost everyone out there is that upgrades at 2B and LF are necessary to make this team better than this abysmal season. What are the odds that Hendry only addresses only one of the two in the offseason?
So I matter now?
Derrek didn’t hit enough of me last year for the MVP, but it seems to me there was a pretty good reason for that.
Nevin bats clean-up and I’m usually in the 6 or 7 hole, so he gets a lot more RBI opportunities than I do.
Cracker.
RACISM!!!
I made the move to get Izturis when I heard that Little Caesar’s would give me a two-for-one pizza deal for life if I called him “Little Cesar.”
Free pizza! Yes!
Who came first, me or Jacque’s rotten egg performance? LaTroy laid a smelly one too, but so did Dave Smith, Mel Rojas, Kyle Farnsworth and Steve Trachsel. Is it race or performance? Gotta be a bit of both, since Chicago is part metropolis, part cow town.
Iss so hard bein only black man in Chicago. I hope deez fans cut me some slack jack! Whoa!
Well considering the top of our order hasn’t been on base all year until Juan decided to start hitting, it seems to me where Jock has been hitting gives him more opportunities for RBI’s. But, Jock has Todd Walker disease (no, not the one that makes you a media whore) and his hits and HR’s are not in clutch or even meaningful situations most of the time.
Juan, CF
Sori, 2b or LF
DLee, 1b
Aramis, 3b
Barrett, c
Jock, rf
Murton/Cedeno lf/2b
Lil Cease, ss
Big Z, p/manager
Not good enough?
Bat Murton (Red Steel Wool) 2nd and move Sori down if you like
It’s true. I’m a perfect 2 hitter on a team that doesn’t have CF, 2B, and SS manned by players who can’t hit for power OR get on base. But you’re right. It’s smart to replace me to make up for the three guys who can’t hit at all, instead of just getting players at those spots who can hit .
I hate to have to defend Jones, but I don’t think you can claim he hasn’t had big hits for this team. At the risk of getting ran out of town, if you look at the Cubs Win Probability Added stat, which is probably crap as far as measuring how good a player is, it’s pretty fantastic as far as showing the actual effect players have had on the season as far as coming up big or failing in important spots.
Also, if you look at the numbers, they tend to agree with what I would think. For instance:
Neifi -106, Glen-Done -153.3, Dumpster -100.4, Ronnie a whopping -286, Mary -110 (nice 7.2 era there).
On the positive:
Big Z 229, Eyre 156, Barret 120, and Jones 136.
I wish we would have sold Jones while he is actually not sucking. But, as much as I hated the signing, I’ve got to admit that he’s played well (offensively) for us. Fuck his defense though.
Nice stats, I’ll have to take your word for it. I will not believe for a second the validity of those stats though if you were to tell me Todd Walker is clutch. He’s like a miniature A-Rod, except he’s never really any good.
Only Jacque’s batting average is surprising. He’s not driving in runs, he’s on pace for just over 20 homers and his on base average is an abysmal .316. He’s not a good player. He’s a perfect fit for those woe begotten Cubs, though.
Todd Walker -37.3
Lemme gat this straight…I can get two despicably awful pizzas that taste worse than the box, but I only have to pay for one?
I should have consulted the wristband.
