On ESPN Classic today they had game three of the 1983 World Series (including Gary Matthews, Bobby Dernier and Ivan DeJesus of the Phillies) and Jim Palmer was warming up in the bullpen during the fourth inning. Al Michaels asked Earl Weaver how many pitches it took Palmer to get warmed up and Weaver said Palmer usually threw 120 pitches to warm up.

The 28-year-old Puffer went 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Padres this season. The righthander has a career record of 3-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 82 games for the Houston Astros (2002-03) and Padres.

If this makes anybody else feel better about Carlos. I had forearm cramps one time. This is true. Remember the old Track and Field game for Nintendo where you had to hit the A and B button repeatedly to make the guy run? My forearm cramped up so bad I couldn’t unclench my fist for 20 minutes one time. The only way it felt better after that was to hold my fingers back just like Carlos was trying to do. So, I think it really was just a cramp.
I heard you can also get that cramp from chronic masturbation, but you’d have to ask Karry if that’s true.

How about Gail’s short skirt?
Is the wind blowing out or in up there in Chicago?

Nice start.
Four pitch walk. Error on the sac bunt.
This just reeks of great baseball!
Don’t be talking about my woman, Calvin.
As long as it’s fung baseball.
I was about to say Andy, this is a (sarcasm included) GREAT start…
I’m looking to test Dusty’s newly hatched theory that I can throw 150 pitches a game.
Calling Ross Gload a former Cub is like calling Mike Barrett a former A.
Is there a strike zone? If so can someone show it to me?
The "Ice Man" can pitch seven innings today, can’t he???
Ross Gload just swung at me.
If he’d throw me, there’s no way Gload would hit me.
Eat that.
…for a Reversal!
I think this might be the most famous foul ball since …
winning is foul.
Assuming it’s fair — niiiiiice….
Pitch of the inning, that is.
I’m the right call there.
Right size, wrong shape!
Like I said.
Hey Cub nation — we’ll score anyway.
Stretch!
He threw eight fastballs to Gload. How about something else?
You can score first.
We’ll score most.
Imagine if I was playing!
I already owe a couple.
So much for my making the All Star team. Maybe I will someday if they eliminate interleague play.
I’ll get back to you when I find the strike zone.
Sox +4 -4 +2 = 2.
Yikes.
Chip said Stevie is the second winningest pitcher from Mexico. He was born in Tijuana but raised in San Diego. Does that even count?
Yes.
2nd winningest from Mexico? If I’m pulling out that factoid on the 1st batter, I’ll really be something by the 5th.
After 1
Good guys up by 2!
Thanks for the breather, guys.
Honesty compels me to say that armed with the Cub’s commitment to negotiate a new contract, I can become an even worse announcer than I already am. Take that, Cub fans!
NA NA NA NANA!
We’ll start warming up
Who am I? Am I Ed Burke’s kid?
Why is Steve Stone talking about my stones?
Of course, I humiliated all of the other Cubs wives….
The Sox would have won until Paul Konerko’s girlfriend was banned from the game because her goatee was longer than regulation.
I told the Mariners that Olivo had big stones. That just made them want him all the more.
Note to self: Find the glove without the hole in it.
Dusty,
I know Maddux doesn’t start until tomorrow, but I’ve got an idea. Let’s take a picture of Gabor and make a mask out of it. I’ll cut out the eyes and mouth and wear it. Presto! No more Bako.
You know how when switch hitters struggle hitting (like Jose Valentin and JT Snow) they they give up switch hitting? Maybe Bako can just give up hitting altogether.
And catching.
And baseball in general?
I gave up trying to shave.
the Sox sure like hitting us
He gawn
posts and pitches
Wow, 55 pitches through 2. Zoinks.
I can’t believe you guys are bashing me on a day I’ve yet to enter the game. Don’t you know if I wasn’t on the team we would have come up with the Lemons idea. I know how Homer Simpson feels now. He came up with that great bowling cheer that helped his teammates bowl well … I wonder if it could apply to baseball … sorry drifted there.
Brando-esqe if Zambrano doesn’t pitch like he did in April and May.
Bye guys, see you if and when you make it out to Boston.
I need work. In more ways than one.
Every Friday I drop a flyball. You’re welcome!
Gold Glove Rightfielder!!!!!
I, like the 2-point conversion, should not be used until the game is on the line.
Well, I’ll always have Houston.
I wouldn’t want to get Ramon out and have the pitcher lead off the 3rd.
About 13 more of these, please.
Why is Stevie getting these calls and I’m not?
We’re contagious!
Damn, was that just a no look double play throw? I should join the And1 tour.
I’m back in da house!
MY F’N HOUSE!
Run home Sammy!!!
Hey ump save some of those strike calls for me.
Like my "Eric Karros" impersonation?
3 is enough against a terrible offense like the Sox. God bless.
I guess I start cooling down in July?
Chip said, "And Ramirez was the key out in the inning."
Well, I’ll bet Loiza’s pretty keen about the double play Derrek Lee just hit into, dumbshit.
Ross Gload is still +1 on the day.
F’n wind….
Apparently dumbshit’s not in the filter.
Oops.
You know, Sammy’s a little awkward out there, but he’s a pretty good defensive right fielder, even at his age. Whatever that is.
"Ross Gload has been on every ball today!"
Except the one the Cubs hit at him.
AKA Rare Event
Hey, that’s my schitck! Hi-me Burke! I’m the one who throws my bat when I swing and miss.
By the way, how’s my old cripple self doing at Iowa? Anybody?
Andy’s LYING! Lying I tell ya!
Dumbshit! Dumbshit! Dumbshit! Dumbshit! Dumbshit! Dumbshit! DumbChip! Dumbshit! Dumbshit!
Sneaky!
How’d Sweica do in the wives’ game?
My avg is .318 in 6 games
I’m on fire! 7-22 (.318) with a double and an RBI.
Yes, one extra base hit in 22 at bats at AAA.
And for christ’s sake, just keep hitting the ball to Ross Gload. Dominicks’ doesn’t have a butcher as thorough as him.
"Barrett’s gonna try to tag! Perez has a strong and accurate arm!"
As the ball rolls near the Cubs dugout.
Remember when I was a third baseman? Yeah, I couldn’t throw there either.
Dave, I hear Sweica did at least 5 of the wives.
The Ricky is hitting 269 .420 .513
for Newark. Ricky wants to play in the majors again, cuz Ricky can still get on base. Hire Ricky NOW! Ricky have bat, Ricky will get on base.
Ricky is hitting 269 .420 .513.
Hire Ricky now! Ricky has bat, will get on base, and RTicky can steal too!
Bring me up! I have 25 homers for Daytona!
We just mentioned that Stevie could have ran hard into Zambrano but slowed up. Who else thinks that if lil Stevie ran over Carlos that carlos would bludgeon him to death.
Steve says that Carlos is lucky that Loiaza’s a nice guy and didn’t run over him on that bunt play. I’d take Carlos in that collision 10 times out of 10.
Chip thinks Dusty’s mound visit was to check and see if Carlos got hurt while covering the bag two batters ago.
Is Chip really as clueless as he sounds?
Jim Hendry was on with the always annoying Dave Kaplan on the pregame show and said that when Wood starts next Sunday he’ll go "somewhere between 75 and 90 pitches."
Ninety pitches? Who’s going to pitch the other six innings?
If this were basketball and Loaiza would’ve run over Zambrano I think we’d see a Flagrant Foul Level 4: Homicide
In a word Andy, yes! Did you like my line about a "shot to center" that blooped in front of Perez? Never saw a ball I couldn’t follow.
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres on Friday traded righthander Brandon Puffer to the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named or cash considerations.
The 28-year-old Puffer went 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Padres this season. The righthander has a career record of 3-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 82 games for the Houston Astros (2002-03) and Padres.
Come on, that pitch was closer to my nose than the strike zone.
On the pregame show Kaplan dropped that he and Chip had dinner. Now Chip just did it. How lame are these two that they think it’s impressive to have dinner with each other?
Sammy should have the right to nail the ump with the bat if he waits that long to call you out on a horrible pitch.
Just run em over and everyone goes to the DL. That’s awesome.
we like giving it to Cubs in the ass
I hear the Red Sox are trying to trade Brandon Puffer for Jung Bong.
Remember the time there we didn’t complain the umps screwed us?
That was … oh, wait, there hasn’t been one yet.
Did Chip make a coy comment about Kappy’s second wedding last weekend in Lake Geneva?
The weddding Chip didn’t attend? But Stoney did?
I wonder if Chip picked up the dinner tab as a "gift."
This just in, I had dinner last night with six people you’ve never heard of!
This also in, I have incredibly bad gas just 20 hours after that dinner ended.
We now return you to your game, already in progress.
Wow, Joe Montana looks terrible.
And Italian.
Is this sacrilege? I think "Bleacher Bums" is a piece of shit.
Andy:
Sounds like the Wife cooked for you.
Yes, that’s sacrilege
I have cramps too! Wanna trade, Carlos?
I dont’ need a forearm! Give me the ball!
The best part of the "injury" mound visit was Dusty shoving the trainer off the field. It was a playful kind of "Nobody’s allowed to be hurt the rest of the year" kind of shove.
115 pitches at post 116
I think that tingle Carlos felt in his forearm was the control returning to his pitches.
Are these going to haunt is today?
Anyone else here post at http://www.nsbb.com? The message board keeps going down!
Are these going to haunt us today?
Nice slide. I hit my sac on the bag. Ouch.
Let’s make this a big one and put a name in the Sux’s coffin.
They traded ME for Aramis Ramirez?
What do you need nsbb for when you’ve got us?
E-ramis really did hit his sac on the bag. That has to hurt.
Two sacrifice flies? What’s going on here? We know how to execute?
I ran faster in my first AB
It’s not the bullpen ghosts, it’s us. Walks will haunt.
Carlos ran harder to try and avoid his double play than Lee did to avoid his.
Why did I hit for myself?
Maybe I should have executed a pinch hitter there. Eh, 115 pitches, he’s still got 40 more in him.
This is actually a lot better the NSBB right now!
I hate hitting into these doubleplays. But I did get that sac fly today. I just need to mow these guys down in these next two innnings. Then pray when they turn it over to the bullpen. I talked to Prior, and he’s still pissed at Mercker for blowing it yesterday.
Jose Macias is in at third. This will be interesting.
Colon Blow! Mroe fiber than a Redwood Tree. Just ask our spokesman, Pat Hughes.
whats the mark up code for posting pictures?
I had some fun with Karry Ling and I’d like Andy to see it.
I only count the pitches he throws after his forearm tingles. So he’s only on pitch nine, now. He’s got 125 more left in him.
Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in Please don’t put me in please don’t put me in
Does anybody know if E-Ramis is hurt? Macias is playing 3rd now. Oh no. Please don’t be on the DL.
Put img src="then the URL" in between < and >.
I’m an anagram for Toilet P.
I just said that Ramirez has a "high quad" injury.
I got crushed
I’d say that’s enough. This is the second time he’s had the trainer come out to look at his forearm. That’s what the bullpen is for.
I’m going on high alert now! Whatever the Cubs say will be a LIE! My preliminary diagnosis is that Carlos needs his arm amputated!
The bullpen should come out to see the Lawnmower?
We thought we were for blowing wins for the starters
Oh no. Does Carlos want to get into the Wood, Prior, rehab program? Out for 3 months and throw soft toss and simulated games.
First E-Ramis, now Carlos, we’re falling like flies here.
Could you imagine if these guys played football? We wouldn’t have a team unless it was powderpuff football.
Who’s pinch hitting, Frank Thomas? Oh, good, I can walk him, easy!
I like it! I’ve never looked sexier!
High Quad is a Friday in late April. What’s Big Z doing about it in July?
Even in the dugout …
Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me Don’t hit it to me
if Mercker comes in, this game will go to the Sux. how can Baker possibly be thinking about using that sac of shit?
Apparently I won’t be going to Boston for Nomar now. I’m sure that was going to happen, too.
What’s the font for sarcasm?
Emporer!
Glad you like it Karry
I’m still alive?
Now we understand why none of us have ever met Peterbilt.
Am I gonna be ok? Is it just the little general and the soldiers?
Does that count as the walk I usually start with, or do I have to walk Thomas, too? Can I get a ruling here? What should I do?
Yeah Ladies because I’m always looking at Desipio Media Ventures..Thanks Dolan!!
we’ve been using these guys way too much lately. you know what that spells- T-R-O-U-B-L-E.
Jeff Torborg will be doing the game tomorrow on Fox! Load up on caffeine before the broadcast!
Hey it’s not my fault the ladies don’t hang out around here. Swieca scares them off.
He sucksssssssss……!
Great… Aramis and Carlos hurt on the same day? Might as well get that 2004 Big Ten Mens’ Basketball Champions banner from Michigan State then.
I’m a legend? Man, somebody sure dropped the prequisites for that job.
I suppose I’m in the legends wing with Calvin Schiraldi and John Roveto.
Yikes.
Get me. E-ramis racked his nuts and Carlos has a cramp. It’s not like the Marshall football plane crash around here.
Pete:
Call me! 773-GROS-LOAD
"The Dream Politte he lives inside of my head
The Dream Politte he talks to me in my bed
The Dream Politte is coming to arrest me, oh, no!"
Hey, at least my photos tasteful!
Yikes. That picture of our friend Mr. Ling is scaring me.
Do I have a hit today? I even tried the "hit it to Gload" strategy.
That’s the picture that scares you?
I’ve got dinner reservations, everybody’s out at first!
Ramirez- groin strain
Carlos- right arm cramp
I called that number and it’s not in service. How can I get a hold of that breathtaking beauty?
A groin is a terrible thing to strain.
Corey, you got a double in the third and scored on Sammy’s single.
I found the problem. Someone put a quad in my groin.
Corey, you got a double in the third and scored on Sammy’s single.
I knew that. I forgot. It’s hard to keep track of all of my hits.
You busted me up 1-8-0. Nicely played.
We know the feeling Corey.
Could you refrain from pictures like that? I almost went blind there. Please more Alyssa Milano pictures immediately!
Well, I didn’t see that one until after I put up my comment about Ling’s picture.
That second picture is not good.
Make them pay for walking Alou!
Will Kenny Williams please report to security. Will Kenny Williams please report to security? Your kids are "shopping" in the player’s parking lot again.
I found Mariotti’s doughnuts!
Stone with a good line, "Jon Rausch is warming up in the bullpen, good to see he’s still in the ballpark."
Then, he blamed Carlos’ cramps on caffeine. Gee, do we think Carlos is hopped up on caffeine? Nah, never.
