Is there anywhere you’d rather be than right here, right now?

It’s time for the little boys who pouted after last night’s loss to step aside.

Game seven is not for faint of heart. It’s for men!

Mark Redmans don’t win game sevens.

    Kerry Woods do.

    And Kerry Wood, will!

    Where would you rather be?

  2. p. d.
    p. d. on October 15, 2003 at 6:58 pm

The moneyline tonight (no that I would know what that means) has the Cubs -240. Let’s hope they are right.

  3. p. d.

Andy, the first row behind home plate wouldn’t be too bad a place to be.

I like it here, at West Side Park.

  5. Bluto Blutarsky
Bluto Blutarsky on October 15, 2003 at 7:03 pm

What happened the Cubs I used to know? What a bunch of pathetic, crying babies.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

    No.

    And it’s not over now!

  6. Chip Caray
Chip Caray on October 15, 2003 at 7:04 pm

What’s better than being in tthe hot tub with me and Beeege?

  7. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:07 pm

Marv is right. So is Bluto.

What would we be doing tonight if the Cubs weren’t playing?

Watching a "very special Ed" on NBC? Downloading porn? Watching and rewatching game six and trying to remember who puked behind the entertainment center?

So we just do that all tomorrow night. These Cubs are built of sterner stuff.

Has there ever been a great sports movie made where the team didn’t suffer some sort of heart wrenching loss, only to overcome it in the end with a dramatic victory?

Hell no, even Air Bud had a tough loss!

Last night’s the night that when it crept into our dreams it caused us to wake up in a puddle of our own sweat.

Tonight’s the night that when we dream about it, we wake up in a puddle of something else.

    Go Cubs.

Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:10 pm

Where the hell is FX again?

    Hey, "Say Anything"!

Lili Taylor banging out "Joe Lies" on her guitar. I think I’d rather watch this than the Cubs.

    OK, maybe not.

  9. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:11 pm

Whatever happened to Ione Skye? And really, why did Cameron Crowe ever think she was really that hot?

Uh, the Cubs are going to start on FX, right?

    Anything on TV tonight?

  11. p. d.
    p. d. on October 15, 2003 at 7:13 pm

Just five wins away from seeing if those idiots in the "what would you do if the Cubs won the World Series" actually do what they said they would.

Or was it just another advertising sham?

  12. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:13 pm

Lili Taylor was like what, 28 when she made this movie? She was supposed to be a high school senior?

Who does she think she is, Gabrielle Carteris?

  13. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:14 pm

Jeremy Piven is in this, too. Christ, Cusack was carrying him then, too?

And Eric Stoltz as a big chicken. This IS a great movie by the way.

But Cubs first pitch is three minutes away.

  14. p. d.

    Does Comcast even carry FX?

  15. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:15 pm

When I got home and the Yankees game was still on, I assumed it was in extra innings. Cuh-rist, how long does it take to play NINE innings?

    I hate the American League.

  16. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:16 pm

    Only in parts of Chicago.

Hey, Dan Castalanetta (Homer Simpson) was in the movie and got cut out of it. He played a creepy guy. Yikes. Anyway, he’s an NIU alum, just like all geniuses. Like me.

  17. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:17 pm

Have no fear, the Yankees have been subdued.

Notify the affiliates, we’re starting on regular old Fox!

  18. p. d.

    Any predictions, genius prophet?

  19. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:18 pm

    OK, maybe not.

Hey, tHom says the Marlins were down 3-1 in the series? Really? He says they were down 3-0 in the eighth last night, too? Who had any idea?

Steve Lyons still thinks all the pressure is on the Cubs. I’d like to apply all the pressure on Steve’s head.

  20. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:19 pm

    First pitch is a strike.

    Whew, that was easy?

    What time’s the parade?

  21. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:20 pm

Andybody seen Steve Bartman? He left his tickets at will call.

  22. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:20 pm

Pierre triples to the corner. Not a good start.

  23. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:21 pm

Wind’s blowing out. The Cubs will score plenty tonight. Just keep it a minimum here, Kerry.

  24. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:22 pm

Somebody needs to tell Lyons that Juan Pierre can not fly. That’s just silly. He doesn’t even have wings.

  25. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:23 pm

Terrible baserunning by Pierre. On a looper to left he goes half way. Even if Alou catches it he’ll have to slide, so Pierre should be tagging. He doesn’t. One out. Juan’s still at first.

  26. Kerry from Chicago
Kerry from Chicago on October 15, 2003 at 7:23 pm

Why do they swing when I grove an 0-2 fastball?

  27. p. d.
    p. d. on October 15, 2003 at 7:24 pm

Why is Alou making a sliding catch like that wih a runner on third?

It should be a lot easier to throw home on your feet, rather than your knees.

Keep throwing that slider with two strikes. Establish yourself RFN.

  31. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:27 pm

Juan’s a third with one out. I can’t type tonight.

I didn’t even know Al was there tonight. Steve won’t shut up.

I can’t wait until tHom and Steve lecture Cubs fans for being mean. That’ll be great.

    Kerry walks Pudge.

  32. p. d.
    p. d. on October 15, 2003 at 7:28 pm

    Al’s talking about execution.

Can we do that to the tv crew?

  33. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:28 pm

What kind of racket does 5,000 drunken Cubs fans with thundersticks on Waveland make. Yikes.

  34. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:29 pm

Well, that’s really not a good start. Cabrera homers to left and it’s 3-0.

Just means it’s their turn to blow the lead tonight.

  35. Chuck
Chuck on October 15, 2003 at 7:30 pm

Kerry Wood is not a money pitcher. I said it before. I’ll keep saying it.

    Game over.

  36. p. d.
    p. d. on October 15, 2003 at 7:30 pm

That was actually a good pitch by
Kerry, and good hitting by Cabrera.

  37. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:32 pm

    Wood strikes out Derek Lee.

I’m not being Pollyanna here, there will be plenty of runs scored here tonight.

  38. Chuck
Chuck on October 15, 2003 at 7:32 pm

26 pitches for 2 outs. Juan Cruz in inning 4.

OK, Chuck. We’ll see you in April then. Have a nice winter.

  40. Andy

After a half, Marlins 3, Cubs coming to bat.

Being a fan is all about games like this. They can make you or break you. You have to be here.

  43. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:39 pm

tHom: Mark Redman has pitched very well in the playoffs.

He’s got more hits allowed than innings pitched and as many walks as K’s. He’s not exactly lighting it up.

    Lofton grounds to second.

  44. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:40 pm

    Gruddy singles to left.

  45. Andy

Sammy flies out into the well in right.

    Two down.

  46. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:44 pm

Alou flies to the track in right.

Mark Redman is pumped! He just gave up two warning track shots.

    We’re coming for you Mark.

After one, Marlins 3, Cubs 0.

  47. Mark Redman
Mark Redman on October 15, 2003 at 7:45 pm

I won’t even ask to compare paychecks.

  48. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:48 pm

Conine reaches on a routine play. He hits a liner to Wood that Kerry almost backhands and catches, the ball rolls into foul territory and Damian Miller just misses throwing Conine out at first.

    One on.

Hey, tHom just worked Jose Rijo into the broadcas! Says Jose made behind the back grabs with "regularity."

Yeah, and later in his career he made anklegrabs as balls were rocketed out of the park on him.

    Evil Alex files to center.

  51. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:51 pm

Redman pops the bunt straight up to Miller.

    Two out.

  52. Andy

    Where is the love?

  55. Andy
Andy on October 15, 2003 at 7:56 pm

E-ramis hits one right into Stevie Bartman’s seat. See, you could have had it tonight.

You know, I love how indignant Fox is about Bartman, but they showed him over and over again last night, and are showing him now.

    Shut up.

Lyons: "The people who said they would have let the ball drop are hypocrites. Everyone would have tried to catch it."

    Screw that.

Now tHom is trying to issue a plea for calm. Perhaps you all should stop talking about it?

    E-ramis flies out to second.

Joththth Lewin is on, spitting his way through a report.

Be careful Juan, that stuff grows on elephants!

  62. Andy

Well, my wife almost made me sleep on the couch last night after we left the bar we were at swearing to exact my revenge on Mr. Hewitt Associates weenie and just swearing in general.

Today she’s at the beach. I’m in this condo watching the game and occasionally looking at the ocean.

And I’m a little less depressed after the 2-run bomb by Wood.

He doesn’t give up another run. And he won’t come out unless his arm falls off either. Steve Lyons might have a pitch-count fetish (don’t you love listening to Al Leiter correct the 2 clowns up there?), but Wood will throw 300 pitches today if it means going to the World Series.

    (He just fanned Pudge)

DK on October 15, 2003 at 10:12 pm

Well, it was a great season, a lot of thrills. In the end, Dusty’s poor decision making, a tired pitching staff, and too many holes in the hitting lineup were out undoing. This really hurts given we were up 3 games to 1, but in the end, this really isn’t THAT good of a team, and we all know it. We just got hot at the right time and got some breaks in September such as Houston’s choke job.

But when we needed it, both Prior and Woody ran out of gas, and Dusty mismanaged his bullpen (again), and we can’t win one of two at home to win the pennant.

We really are masochists to be Cubs fans, aren’t we? It is too painful to say, but….wait ’til next year???
