The Bears selected Tommie Harris with their first round pick. I was staunchly opposed to Vince Wilfork, and I approve of this pick. Picking another defensive tackle with the second pick is a little questionable, but I can live with it. I think the Bears got a steal with Bernard Berrian. And the rest of the draft is of course unknown. Except for one guy, QB Craig Krenzel. You know, that guy from Ohio State that won a national championship.
I watched Krenzel in person at the 2002 Illinois/Ohio State football game. That is about 100 less times than that Tocco guy Andy talks about, but I think I?ve got a good read on him. He?s got average arm strength, but he can check off well (Many plays down the stretch in that game were check-offs if I am recalling it correctly), and he can scramble well when he needs to. He almost single-handedly beat Illinois that evening with his feet. But he almost never scrambled unless he had to, and that is a good lesson to learn for the NFL. I think he?ll be a serviceable backup, and he may be the #2 guy by the end of 2004.
Maybe the biggest point about this whole discussion is that the last good thing I can remember about Illinois football is the fact that we took the 2002-03 National Champions to overtime. Yikes. Talk about no hope?
How about the Cubs? They swept the Mets this weekend, which is never a bad thing. Unfortunately, we all know who Karim Garcia is now (Damn you!). Matt Clement pitched his best game in a Cub uniform I can remember, striking out a career-high 13. The Cubs? offense isn?t doing all it was, but it is still effective enough to win games.
But, we will know in eight days if this team is truly for real. Three games against the Diamondbacks, starting Monday night with Carlos Zambrano trying to get that no-hitter he was robbed of last year in the BOB against Randy (11-0 against the Cubs lifetime) Johnson. An off day is Thursday, and then Friday a four-game series begins against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The Cubs don?t win much there, and getting a split in those four games would be really nice. Add in two of three in Arizona, and I would think that would be a good road trip.
Anything else? Oh, Eli Manning got to go to New York. I would rather live in San Diego, but then that would require cheering for the Chargers. After following the Bears for most of my life, I wouldn?t want to go to a franchise that is actually run worse than the Bears either. And John Elway did the same sort of thing, so I don?t think Eli should be getting the criticism he is. That being said, I think the Giants gave up way too much for him, and I wish it could have been handled privately. But that?s life?
I?m worried about the Lions now. They got some talented players in the draft this weekend, most notably Roy Williams and Kevin Jones. Those players are good picks; especially considering some teams had both those guys ranked #1 at their position before the draft. That being said, they still have some defensive problems.
The Vikings got their pick finished in time. Got to love the fact it only took them three years to learn how to read a clock.
The Packers, well, they are the Packers. No matter how good they are I will still think they suck. Therefore, their draft sucked. No explanation (hopefully) needed.
To conclude, good job Matt!

Keep it up, and we might re-sign you this offseason… Of course, that would cost us a chance at a good shortstop but, hey, that hasn’t stopped us before!

Eh, people are bragging on the Lions draft only because their top 2 picks were "name" guys at skill positions.
Um…BC? I took a little heat for my temper tantrum, too.
Once I haunt Osama, I’m coming to get you, BC. You "approve" of the Tommie Harris pick? I’m sure Jerry Angelo is relieved to hear that.
How about this? How about you only post when you actually have something to say.
To be fair, people who feel the need to criticize Manning should also comment that they disapproved of what Elway or Bo Jackson did. That being said, I don’t think Manning will be as good as those two players were in their prime…
ESPN and other website writers are going to offer grades for drafts. I didn’t do that. I stayed to looking at the teams I really know, and not extending it to every single team. Is there a difference? They are both opinion.
BC, You’re making us all look bad. We spend our time binge drinking and passing out in gorilla suits with ice skates on and our hands in buckets of mustard (true story)and you feel the need to pursue some sort of academic endeavor? Ambition and college kids never got along, so why start now?
Here’s a thought, drink a 12 pack of Keystone Light, and then go to the bars and write your column. Not only is it guaranteed to be more entertaining, but when girls see you writing at the bar, you’ll be seen as "deep" and "soulful" – two of the quickest roads to a cheap and meaningless, but fun, night. Now that’s journalism…

No way is the kid stealing my bit. You think it’s easy to write this stuff after 12 of the world’s greatest generic Coors? That’s why I try it every damned day.
See BC – learn from the man.
We’ll even spot you the $5.05 for the twelver.
I thought Karry Ling was the in-house drunkard Andy…
Even if many of you think my articles are terrible (And it seems that is the case), at least I hate the Packers too.
That should be worth something, right?
Oh, well, people will probably still gripe.
Please, keep your comments to points made in the article or points made in previous articles. Comments outside those bounds aren’t necessary or appreciated and they definitely aren’t relevant.
Thank you!
I just wanted to note I added in a word to my original article (Around my Vikings’ comment) since I realized it was somewhat confusing.
Thanks.
Does anybody else think the Bears cringed a little when they saw Tommie Harris’ old man get up and do that dance after his kid was picked?
Archie Manning might be playing puppeteer for his son, but at least he didn’t cut a rug after Eli was picked.
BC, while you may have a way to go as a journalist, just keep plugging along. I don’t know how you became this site’s whipping boy, but it isn’t deserved. Keep learning and keep writing. Pay attention to what your professors say, not the morans on this site that feel the need to rip on you for your articles. You will improve, just give it time. Ignore the criticism, learn from the CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. And who knows, some day there may be some constructive criticism. Until that day comes around, I guess you will just be Desipio’s bitch. Sorry, dude.
We have some defensive problems? Then, as I said of "The Dick Jauron Show," this is not my defense, but I am a coach of that defense.
I was most excited to hear my friend Hub on the draft coverage say that Joey Harrington is already a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback.
We like B.C. We like what he can do. We’re going to stick with him at this position. We feel very good about B.C.’ potential to make an impact on the desipio.com webpage.
Who’s Joey Harrington? I thought Joey Heatherton was the QB of the Lions.
I’d say the best moment of the entire draft was when the Chargers drafted Eli. I thought the kid was going to breakdown in tears. But in the end, Archie and Eli got their wish. Eli can now play in New York, behind a mediocre offensive line and instead of handing the ball to LT, will instead have to practice falling on Tikki Barber’s fumbles. But I’m sure the New York media will be very gentle with young Eli.
One more thing, why are the Mannings "the first family of football?". What about the Hilgenbergs? The Barbers? Or even William and Micheal Dean Perry? Some of those guys have won Super Bowls.
Well, I won’t be putting "Desipio’s bitch" on my resume anytime soon. But thanks for the comments Concerned Reader.
I don’t care about criticism if it justified and constructive. Really, that’s what I’m hoping for and expecting by doing this. It’s experience for me in case I ever to get to do opinion writing for somebody in the future. What someone did earlier this morning was not justified or constructive. Oh well.
Hey – no one even mentions that I boycotted the Packers. "Hell no, I won’t go!" Then I disapproved of that Eli did on nat’l TV.
He’s not a great writer (yet) and he’s not entertaining (yet) — but he’s 19 years old … geesh.
He’s taking time out to try and entertaining you FOR FREE on a website.
Can’t you guys save your rancor and anger for someone who gets paid to write shitty columns (not that BC’s columns are shitty, far from it)? I’m pretty sure Mariotti’s email is easily accessible.
BC – Since my lasht post this mornig, I have drinked 19 beers and lemme tell YOU somethin’ constructive – first, you don’t know me, and B) why do they call it "college" anyway…that’s a funny word.
Hey everyone – let’s go to Kams – buckets are on me!!! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
What, we’re supposed to make these posts relevant? Andy never makes us do that. You’re mean, BC.
Sorry, I said "comments" when I meant "criticisms". You can be irrelevant in your comments, I don’t really care what is said in that regard (Although I would hope it would have some sort of link to the article). All I was talking about were irrelevant criticisms made in the past.
My sister is covered in moles. Yeah, and I used to sleep with a Sux fan. She was covered in moles, too.
Oh, yeah!
I-L-L….
A brief prediction for tonight:
Cubs win 5-2, ending Randy Johnson’s long winning streak against the Cubs.

Quote from BC:
"A brief prediction for tonight:

Randy and the D-Backs beat the brakes off the Cubs and win 9-0.
Hey, I was wrong, it happens.
No way the Cubs were winning that game last night. Although it would have been nice to see Alex Gonzalez put the ball in play when Derrek Lee was at second in the early innings, because we still had a chance then. Of course, he swung and missed at two straight breaking balls.
Surprised to find myself riding the "Give B.C. a break already" wave.
B.C.’s hope for a 2-of-3 in Arizona and a split in St. Louis was very reasonable. B.C., don’t dignify the clowns who criticize a prediction for 1 game of 162.
Save it up for when Dusty assures you Ramirez is a Gold Glover at 3B.
Ramirez "plays" third base?
Half the time I think he just "butchers" it…
Nobody before the Pythagoreans had thought that mathematical relations held the secret of the universe. Twenty-five centuries later, Europe is still blessed and cursed with their heritage. To non-European civilizations, the idea that numbers are the key to both wisdom and power, seems never to have occurred. by free online poker
