OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

One night after our locals bitched out early, another friend and I crawled from Cody's over to Millie's, a somewhat less friendly neighborhood dive. I got hassled there by a regular who decided he didn't care for the fact that I was wearing a tie. It felt like it was about 50/50 that this guy was gonna try to throw down over the issue, but dude settled down after a long pee and left us to enjoy our High Lifes in peace.

That"s great Millies story.  Is it still there?

I lived right by Hamlin Park (On Hamilton, between Barry and Wellington) from August of '96 through January 2002--the longest stretch I've ever been in one place in 11+ years in the city--and I never once mustered up enough curiosity to drop in to Millies for a beer.  Reading your account, I can see that my instincts were a good one.

Nice. Were you guys in Section 206? I was in 205 row 6. A job well done with the HGH chants. I should have known you guys were Desipiots.

204.  Row 6.  So, apparently, exactly one section to your left.

Was there a nice older couple sitting next you (Gail and Will)?  And was the guy who looks like a Polish cab driver driver two rows in front?

Good folks.

I'm not sure, Brian.

But just to be on the safe side, next time you see them tell them you sold the tickets to a scalper, and you don't know the guys who sat there.

Have we recruited Apex for the Cody's softball team, yet?

We need a brotha on the team...you know, to play during the games when the sun is still out.

Cody's at Paulina and Barry?

Quality joint.

Indeed it is.  Since 1996, I guarantee that I've drank more beer at Cody's than any other bar in Chicago by at least a 3:1 ratio.  We hold our annual Fantasy Football auction in their beer garden Labor Day Weekend, and Geno has sponsored our softball team since '03.  I also played on a  darts team that played out of Codys in January 1999.  I used to say that it was the finest beer garden in Chicago.  The deck's gotten a bit worn, but it's still pretty tits-out that you can play bocce ball and outdoor darts.

Cody's = Steak Sauce.  Ogden.

Was Mike too cool to be in the picture?

Musta been in the 4th inning, when I watched the game from my "rally" seat.

It was also noted yesterday that your 2007 Cubs are 3-0 with Brooklyn in da house.

When's your flight to Planet Houston?

Did you fellas act up enough for the Cubs to throw me out of my season tickets?

We were fine, although Apex and Slaky were sure to trample over my own personal cardinal rule of no cussing.  So outside of a few f-bombs and a handful of cocksuckers, we were golden.

Also, i didn't mean to come off as a class warrior by justifying Apex' Fletch-like punch of the Garvey pic because Sluggers charges so much for beer...so let me say that the destruction of property was warranted because said destruction of property was Steve Fucking Garvey in a Fucking Padres uniform at eye level.  What's wrong with those people?

I wish that I was part of the in-crowd.  I'm on the fringes of a fringe messageboard.  Oh my that's humiliating.

You'll never have the privilage of buying us a $24 round with that sort of insolence, JD.

Also, somebody came down the steps wearing a U of AR hat, and your name was mentioned.  And that's the truth.

There--I threw ya a bone, playa.  You're a legend in Chicago.

As it happens, I'm now 4-0 when I sit with morans.

And Slak's pic doesn't do justice to what Apex did to the Garvey pic.

Cut his knuckle?  Sure.

Commited an act of wilfful vandalism?  Yes, but fuck Sluggers and their five dollars for one beer.

Left some DNA behind?  Yes, you, too, can grab yourself a piece of Desipio history by scraping some of his blood.  Just go to the bottom part of that bar and look for the Garvey-in-San-Diego-uniform that also happens to be surrounded by broken glass.

As for the game?  Little Richie Ankiel getting saddled with the golden sombreero made the entire day worth it.  Good times, fellas.

Z's tossing eight innings of 1-run baseball tonight.

Which means if he does, that the all-important rubber match will fall to...

Steve Trachsel.

Oh god, why was I born a Cubs fan?

I'm taking credit for coining "Carlos' Last Stand" overat the HJE Shoutbox.

The season's tonight.  If Big Z shits the bed again, they'll pack it in, as they really have no chance.  If he pitches like his fat ass is supposed to, then there's hope and they'll stay in until the end.

?I'll probably watch NIU-SIU instead and spare myself that fat fuck's drama queen hysteria.

wow, you guys sure have a lot of confidence for a team that's 2 games up on a really shitty team from down south.

Or, what Apex said.  Thank you for making the case so simple with your demonstration.  You're like BC--you don't even know who you're talking to.

However, I feel it is an important book that makes a valiant effort at understanding today's trade, business, technology and politics, and how they fit in with one another and how the paradigm of the world has shifted in front of our very own eyes.

Our debt has turned us into China's bitch.

It will only get worse from here.

The End.

A large theme to the book, to be sure, but Friedman--the author-- does not paint an entirely bleak picture, assuming we get our shit together in investing more into science and engineering and dream about possibilities rather than fondly recall an inaccurate past...oh hell who the am I kidding...it's bleak.

Whither Roy Hobbs, and his assumed, inaccurate generalizations about us?
