I think the bottom line is, if there was no strike, Montreal would have won the 1994 World Series.

Beating the Sox.

The '94 strike ruined 1 of the likely World Series contenders that year.  Too bad it wasn't the other.

And now we're back full circle.  Fuck the Sox.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

I've never understood how Sox fans could so stridently believe(and from personal experience a lot them seem to) that they were a lock to win the '94 World Series.  The day that MLB shut down the Sox were 1 game up on a Cleveland Indians team that was blossoming into an absolute juggernaut (they won the Central 6 of the next 7 years) with 69 to play.  I don't think its much of a stretch to imagine that Indians team making up a 1 game deficit against a club that was trotting out Darrin Jackson and Ron Karkovice on a daily basis.

And with one or two championships, the Expos would have had a resurgence in attendance allowing the team to continue playing in Montreal. Maybe Loria never sells them and buys the Marlins and the 2003 Cubs win the championship and White Sox fans sit repeatedly and forcefully on their thumbs instead of yapping about 1908 for the last 10 years.

Or at least, the Expos never would've played a few seasons in Puerto Rico where Vladimir Guerrero inspired a 10-11 year old Javier Baez with his free-swinging ways. Baez doesn't become a super-prospect and the Cubs pick the next available middle infielder in the 2011 draft -- Cory Spangenberg.

Damn fun indeed.

He started hounding me after I tweeted "Remember when the White Sox didn't trade Samardzija because they were contenders" while the Sox were getting shelled again for the 4th time in 5 games or whatever, and he responded with REMEMBER 1908 1908 WAS A LONG ASS TIME AGO.  It all went downhill from there. I have to assume you locals deal with guys like this in real life on a not infrequent basis, so I get it. I get it. The bastards can rot.

You still need to learn the simple pleasure in breaking Sox fans' balls while not caring about their team...if you get emotionally invested, you can't bask in the glow of their chapped asses.

It's true, I should never have engaged, but jesus.

I also don't get the mentality of denying that your team sucks, although I know that's how many fans operate. When my highly paid team of big free agent acquisitions plays like garbage and sits at 50-55 in August, I lead the charge to say they suck, I don't go around looking for people bashing them on the internet and screaming NUH UH UR TEAM SUX.

That guy's whole feed is about the Cubs. How many Cubs fans are tweeting about the Sox in any capacity?

Thanks to me, Aisle 424, and Eli (who merely retweeted the "Baseball is fun when you have Samardzija" tweet and then the guy's subsequent angry tweets about how much Bryant and Russell suck because batting average) this fellow appears to have protected his account. Heh.

Also speaking of the Sox, Snork declining that 85 million extension is looking like one of the bigger dodged bullets in Cubs history. Because he said no they ended up with Addison Russell and without that dude's 4.62 ERA, 4.09 xFIP, and rapidly declining K/9 and groundball %.

Right now, my Sox schradenfreude is most concentrated in Samardzija.  The Cubs sold early and high on him and got a potentially above-average 21 year old SS (and the early returns are certainly not disappointing for Russell) a player that splintered off into Dexter Fowler and another potential above-average prospect in McKinney--and Hammel coming back means that all of this effectively only cost the Cubs Samardzija (and, to be fair, Valbuena) who--with a year remaining on his contract as he was sold early remember--then fails to elevate the Sox into contention in his contract year as was the hope behind the Sox trading prospects for him...but does just well enough in just the right number of opportunities to engender false hope that the Sox would compete, rendering them compelled to keep him...probably too long as it turns out as they couldn't sell him early or late, and may just get a worthless ole' compensation pick for all of their hassle.  That's what I'm enjoying.

Also it's entirely possible that if Snork keeps playing like this and the Sox do tag him, no team will give up a decent pick to sign him and he may end up re-signing with the Sox, in which case they forfeit the pick. Giggles.
