Detroit probably should sell given how they've left their farm barren for years trying to win now and the window is closing, and I'm sure people have reached out to them about Price. I can't buy that he's getting traded till it actually happens, though. They're 3 back in the wildcard, and all the owner wants is a world series before he dies. I have a hard time seeing him give up on this one.

If it happens I'll be over the fucking moon.

So they probably should sell, except that they probably shouldn't, but you won't believe it until you see it then when you see it you'll be happy, but it probably will happen but it won't happen b/c the owner is the only owner that wants to win a world series?  Cool.

Actually literally nothing I said contradicts itself. The Tigers should sell, because they are full of aging, overpaid players with no farm system behind them. I don't believe they will sell, because they're only 3 back and the owner wants to win above all else, and as he's old as shit and the team's immediate future after this season looks kinda grim, I doubt he'll give up on this chance to compete.

But while I really don't think it will happen, I'd be happy if it did?

Reading, it's fundamental.

It's not that you're contradicting yourself, it's that you're just saying nothing.

We get it, you're bored in Iowa and VERY interested in the Cubes now.  But give the blue new button clickers a break for at least 5 min.  This ain't the shoutbox.

I'm in for Parsons Saturday.

Saturday Parsons Yes.

RT if you're down with me.

Even if Pex is there, I'd go.  What time were we thinking?  I probably can't go between the hours of 11-2 or so, but after that I'm down to clown for a little bit at least.

We're going to do the boat tour and, I'd guess, lunch with Bill and TJ, so we probably won't be able to get until mid-afternoon.

Went to that Rock Bottom place yesterday, as you suggested.  On a hot day it would have been bliss, but it was actually a little cool up there, especially in the shade.  Food and beer were pretty good, though, and not unreasonably priced.

Well it looked nice and sunny out, but like all of us hard working Americans, I was inside my office working.  Not on a multi-continent excursion like you and your Australian koala cubs

Okay, guys: we're going shopping on State Street this morning and bearing in mind that it may take STonk a little longer than the rest of us to locate what she's looking for (women need more than shirseys, it turns out), is there something around there where I can take the kids for an hour to amuse them?

If her shopping takes her up Michigan (better stores, so I'm guessing it will), there's an interactive Chicago Sports Museum next to Harry Caray's in Water Tower Place that they'd enjoy.

Or you can take them to the Blackhawks store over on Michigan & Wacker, they've got some stuff over there too for kids, I think.

I wouldn't shop on Michigan if it were the last Magnificent Mile on Earth.  What do you think I am, a tourist?

If you're looking for some non-touristy area to shop (well your "wife") I've been told recently that the North Ave/Sheffield area has some good stuff.  They've really rebuilt the whole surrounding area and it's nice too.  There are a bunch of lunch spots, including the recently opened Dinosaur BBQ.  We ate there the other day and it was pretty good.  Plus there is at least one park nearby for the kids to play.

Or you could take that 606 to Damen, walk south and there are a bunch of new places on Damen to shop at for her.  Plus the parks at the stops on the 606.  Plus Big Star to eat at.  And Dove's.

This morning?  Like before bars/restaurants are open?  It's nice out you could sit on the rooftop of Rock Bottom and have lunch before the work crowd gets there.  If you're by the river, they're almost done over here with the riverfront walkway thing, so that's kind of cool now.  You can probably see a body floating around if you look thru the murkiness.

Took an UberX car (excellent, fast, cheap service: good shout, Dubbs) up to Logan Square this morning for breakfast - ATonk nearly shit herself with happiness when they brought her pancakes - and then walked back to the apartment via the park.  I guess it was nothing special really, but we ended up talking to all sorts of people on the way, checked out the 606, and then visited the big Puerto Rican supermarket on North and California and it was a really, really nice morning.  It was also really, really fucking long morning, having been up at 0530 with the jetlag.  At one point I asked STonk what time she thought it was and she replied "I don't know... about one?".  It was quarter past ten.

Shoulda come by the house as long as you were down the street

Where do you live, dude?

Logan Square.  Logan and California.  The northern suburbs.  I can barely see the skyline from the rooftop, so I know I'm still in the city.  Watch TV dude.

We walked right through that junction this morning.  I was amazed to see that you have Starbucks in America, too.
If a Logan Square meetup is planned with the Dubbs and Tonker families, let me know. The Butthead clan would like to get in on that if possible. My boy has never met anyone from Australia. This will be a good learning experience for him.

TDubbs' wife is very nice. I'm sure your family will enjoy her company. She might even be nice enough to offset TDubbs being there.

How long are you staying in the area?  Thru the weekend?  Want to do a Parsons night one of these days?  Huge outdoor area and so much fried chicken that even Tonker, Fork, and SKO together couldn't eat all of it.

I am surprised that no one has commented on the most interesting part of yesterday's activities.  The seventh inning stretch featured Henry Rowengarten singing the seventh inning stretch.  That is usually never my favorite part of a game at Wrigley since the acoustics and the effort to coordinate a song sung by 38000 people don't lend themselves to a very musical event.  Nonetheless, Mr. Thomas did a decent job of singing, whereas most of the celebrities who are called upon to do that either are off key or forget the words, or both.

Y'all will be heartened to hear that at some point shortly after the stretch the guy had made it down to my area where he was approached by fans wanting to take pictures with him. At first I didn't know who he was but then gathered he was the guy who had just led the stretch--not that I knew who he was then, either, since I've never seen the movie as I was in my 20's when it came out and thus it missed my radar entirely (conversely, now that I'm a parent of young kids I rarely miss any of these new shitty kids movies). Nevertheless, the congregation around him directly in front of me prompted me to loudly remind everyone trying to get a selfie with the dude that the game was back on and I wished to see it without standing up and causing a ripple effect of every subsequent row behind me doing the same, basically inconveniencing an entire section.  The fans, being the same thoughtless jackholes that would rather take a picture with some C-list celebrity than take in the bottom of the 7th inning of a 1-run game between the Cubs and Cardinals, paid minimal to no attention to my pleas. For his part, however, Henry Whatshisname acknowledged this breach of etiquette and took it upon himself to inform the fans that if they wanted to take a picture they would need to squat down with him so those of us who couldn't give two shits about him could watch the game that we dragged our families down to the park and paid money for to watch.

This Moment in Meatball History has been brought to you by Budweiser.  You're welcome.

You never saw any of the American Pie movies?  I find that hard to believe.

And whatever happens this season, we know they'll be better on Opening Day/Night 2016 than they are right now. And they'll probably be better the year after that as well.

Maybe!

Yeah we have no way of knowing this. We have reasons to suspect this, and certainly I'm buying stock in the longterm prospects of the Cub organization, that doesn't mean in the short term there's no reason to get angry about getting their dicks kicked in by the Cardinals over and over again. You can be both happy about the future of the Cubs and occasionally angry at their present.

Oh well, can we stop now? People watch sports differently. Who knew.

I'm not exactly advocating trading him. Just saying that Theo's run through probably every possible projection of him as both a catcher and an outfielder and if he decides the team will win more ballgames by trading him for a pitcher and finding an actual outfielder or catcher I trust his judgment on that one.

I mean heck, maybe we're all underestimating how good McKinney can be. He may not hit for a ton of power and we'll miss the fat guy home runs, but maybe his bat/OBP skills and actual ability to play defense in LF would make him a better player to have than Schwarber anyway.

If we're just talking about left field, McKinney could absolutely be more valuable than Schwarber, factoring in his defense and (likely) baserunning advantage.

WHAT ABOUT THE DINGERS???

Anyone ever been to a Protein Bar?

13 locations in and around Chicago.

If so, what are you impressions?

Asking for work purposes.

I found that they were serving healthy, flavorful food in a hip, trendy environment quickly and efficiently so I could get back to my day.

Seriously, though: there aren't enough wild horses in the World to drag me into one of those places.

We went a lot about a year and a half ago.  It tastes pretty good, but it was slightly too far from work with other options on the way, so we kind of stopped going.  Their breakfast was the best part of the food

Okay, next up: CTA passes.  I can pick up seven-day passes at O'Hare for $28 a pop, but I can't figure out whether I need them for the kids or not.  There's something on the CTA site about a reduced fare for kids but it looks like you either have to pre-order a reduced-fare permit, or buy a reduced-fare ticket every time you want to travel, or maybe even both.  Is there an easy way of travelling with kids on the El and buses, or should I just get four CTA passes and be done with it?

EDIT: looks like kids under 7 ride free with a paying adult, anyway, and ATonk doesn't turn 7 until our last week in town anyway.  Even after her birthday, I presume they don't actually require proof, as long as you can feasibly claim that your child is still 6... right?
