More bad news.  Lee is at .403, so that's likely to come down.  In his absurd 2005 season, he was at .355.

Fontenot's unwillingness to take a walk scares me.  14-4 K/BB ratio in 104 ABs?  Ewwww...  Anyone know where to find his BABIP?  I'd venture he's getting pretty lucky right now and is due for a correction.  I

His BABIP is .395, which is unsustainable for a guy like him (or anyone else, for that matter).  I hate to agree with you but you're right -- that's going to come way, way down.

Fontenot's BABIP in 233 PA at AAA last year was .376.  Perhaps not so coincidentally, his BB% took a big drop while his SLG% went up last year, too.  All around, he had a banner season last year, even if he did only play half the season.

I agree that his BABIP is going to come down some (it was a ridiculous .431 in June), but it could also be a sign of a guy who discovered his form of passiveness at the plate was holding him back a bit and he made a conscious decision to be more aggressive.  Hopefully, he can find that happy medium in between.

This is made funnier by the fact that Fontenot might be the whitest guy on the team.  Like, literally.  He almost looks an Appalachian, in-bred whitey.  He’s so white his pupils are white.

A fair point, but you're likely to see slightly higher BABIP numbers in AAA because the pitching is worse, as are opposing defenders.

The average BABIP for major leaguers is between .290 and .300.  Some players keep theirs a lot higher -- Miguel Cabrera, for example, has always been around .360 or so -- but Fontenot isn't going to be able to do that.  Cabrera has those numbers because he hits line drives about 24 percent of the time; Mikey is at 17 percent.  From all that, it just looks like he's been really lucky.

Anyway, I don't think there's a reasonable person who expects Fontenot to keep hitting .356.  I'm just wary of how big of a dropoff we'll see.

Exactly.  Now, anyone think Andy MacFail would be willing to unload Tejada and his bum wrist for a mid-level prospect?  I'd take his salary and the risk that he doesn't play until September, or even next year, to potentially upgrade this infield and offense for this year.
