The Beege, Morris and possibly Bagwell will all go in next year.  Piazza will get in eventually, but Raines might not.  Bonds, McGwire, Clemens et al are going to need a sea change, and Sosa (12.5%?  Holy shit.) clearly isn't ever, ever going to Cooperstown.

This process is exhausting and stupid. I hate it. Will it ever change?

Well, not having a living player (or at least a player who played over the past 50 years) get inducted certainly hurts tourism and HOF revenue. Next year probably.

No. After two years of not getting the revenue jolt and becoming irrelevant during the course of the baseball season, the HOF board will want to change who votes, the threshold the criteria, whatever.

It's good for business when you have years like this:

Barry Larkin and Ron Santo
Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven
Andre Dawson and Whitey Herzog
Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice
Goose Gossage
Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken
Bruce Sutter
Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg
Paul Molitor and Dennis Eckersley
Ozzie Smith
Bill Mazeroski, Dave Winfield and Kirby Puckett
Carlton Fisk, Tony Perez and Sparky Anderson
Nolan Ryan, George Brett, Robin Yount and Orlando Cepeda
Don Sutton
Phil Neikro, Tommy Lasorda and Nellie Fox
Jim Bunning and Earl Weaver*
Mike Schmidt and Richie Ashburn
Steve Carlton, Phil Rizutto and Leo Durocher
Reggie Jackson
Tom Seaver and Rollie Fingers and Hal NEwhouser
Rod Carew, Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins and Bill Veeck
Jim Palmer and Joe Morgan
Johnny Bench and Carl Yastrzemski
Willie Stargell
Billy Williams and Catfish Hunter
Willie McCover and Bobby Doerr
Hoyt Wilhelm, Lou Brock and Enos Slaughter
Luis Aparicio, Harmon Killebrew, Don Drysdale and Pee Wee Reese
Brooks Robinson and Juan Marichal
Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson
bob Gibson and Johnny Mize
Al Kaline and Duke Snider
Willie Mays and Hack Wilson
Eddie Mathews
Ernie Banks
Robin Roberts and Bob Lemon
Ralph Kiner
Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford and Cool Papa Bell
Warren Spahn, Monte Irvin and Roberto Clemente
Sandy Koufax, Yogi Berra, Early Wynn, Josh Gibson, Lefty Gomez
Satchel Paige*

Those are the Hall of Fame inductees by year since 1971. The only two years the writers failed to elect someone, the Veterans at least inducted Satchel Paige (in 1971 when he was still alive) and then Jim Bunning and Earl Weaver. So even when the writers don't let anyone in, they get one of the most-quoted baseball players of all time, a well-known player from the 60s that wound up launching a political career, and a talkative and popular former manager. This year: nothing. Do the living HOFers even show? Does anyone care?

Give it another year, and they'll rectify it.

There is much consternation on the internet about the fact that "not even Biggo made it into the Hall."  My consternation comes from the fact that Biggio came so close to making it into the Hall.  Craig "I wear armor on my arm so I can stick it out there to be hit and get on base without getting hurt and I am not half the player that Ron Santo was"  Biggio?  And how can McGuire get 96 votes while Sosa gets 71.  Neither should be in the Hall, but how could 25 voters distinguish between those two?  (Assuming that the 71 who voted for Sosa voted for the other guy. It could be that none of McGuire's 96 voted for Sosa and vice versa for the 71 who voted for Sosa.)  And by the way.  Why do I give a damn?
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

I always find the randoms who somehow got votes much more interesting than the ones who got in:

QuoteKenny Lofton 18 (3.2%), Sandy Alomar Jr. 16 (2.8%), Julio Franco 6 (1.1%), David Wells 5 (0.9%), Steve Finley 4 (0.7%), Shawn Green 2 (0.4%), Aaron Sele 1 (0.2%)

Aaron Sele?  Proud owner of a career 100 ERA+? Seriously?
You two wanna go stick your wangs in a hornet's nest, it's a free country.  But how come I always gotta get sloppy seconds, huh?
