2015 General MLB Thread
« on: June 01, 2015, 09:25:05 AM »
If we already have one of these, I apologize, but I didn't see one.

Bartolo Colon's double is the greatest thing I've seen in ages. David Ross probably gets an inside the park home run on that. Dan Vogelbach is at least taking a hard turn around 3rd on a standup triple. Bartolo just says "aww fuck it" after he rounds first.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

I had a long drive to a meeting today and I had Jim Rome on for a bit (I know, "I admit it") but he played the Mets broadcast call of this (not sure if TV or radio) and the PBP guy dropped a "they should time him with a sundial" as he was rounding first.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

I saw somewhere that they timed him at 13 seconds from home to second. Billy Hamilton has a fucking home run trot of 16.45 seconds this season.

Billy Hamilton's home trot at .19 seconds slower than James McCann's inside-the-park homerun is awesome.

Hey ChuckD, since I'm too lazy to look this up and you seem to be the guy to ask, National Hero Luis Valbuena has 10 homers despite a .188/.250/.392/.642 OPS. 10 of his 33 hits this year have been homers. Is that the best (or worst depending on how you view it) ratio in the majors?

Not sure about this year, but in 2010, Mark Reynolds had 32 homers on 99 hits (32.3%)

In 2012, Adam Dunn had 41 homers on 110 hits (37.2%)
In 2008, before he got traded to Arizona, he had 32 homers on 87 hits with the Reds (36.8%)

Thank you. Perhaps our man Luis will make a run at Tony Batista's record for least productive 30 homer season ever.

The numbers for Ankiel must have not been that good because I assumed your response would have been that

Yeah, he's not on that level.  But 68 Ks in 128 ABs in 2013 will always be in my Hall of Fame.

He ran hard to second, and then cruised the rest of the way.  Billy Hamilton scares the bejesus out of me as a runner.  They should save everybody time and trouble and just award him third every time he gets on base.
Your toilet's broken, Dave, but I fixed it.

Seems kind of a weird move to call up a top prospect straight from AA as a two week injury replacement, especially when his Javy-like K Rate (33.6% this year, 33.9% in the minors overall) seems to indicate he won't exactly adapt quickly.

I think it's more like a two-week tryout. And it may serve as a wake up call if they feel Gallo has been resting on his laurels even a little bit.
